Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Advocating for Weid to be tried in the backline.

Swap J.Smith and Weids at Casey level.

Joel is working well as a back, time to give him some development up the field.

Weids is playing when away from the goals,. His problems seem to be getting the ball in the attacking 50. Can get his hands to the ball, but not clunk them when in the contest. Perfect for a key position backman, if he can punch it. He is also a reasonable field kick.

Need to make something of his skill. Could be the best thing for him and us.

We have many back up tall forwards if injuries hit, including, M.Brown and Majak. Less in the backline, and I wonder if J.Smith is more of a forward or tall winger, we should find out.

Took 7 marks and kicked 3 goals today.

Weid could be very handy if Tmac BB or LJ miss games.

How much more development does Joel Smith need?

If he’s in our side, we are done. Not really because of Joel himself, but he has multiple players in front of him in every role his fanboys think he could play

Not sure if Joel will be on our list next year. Could be saved for depth. Probably the same with Baker but he could possibly go in search of game time at another club.

Mitch Brown... I don't really know if he'll go around again.

Weideman didn't do enough today to worry the selectors.

Not many VFL games left for a number to stake their claims.

Develop him as a forward,  in Casey, so he becomes a very flexible backup.

Can see him as our super med sub.

So he's fourth in line for the throne then.

At this point in time, the situation can change quickly, take Harrison Petty for example just takes a bit of bad luck for Tomlinson and he stepped up and keeps on improving.

But he dropped 5 or 6 easy marks in the forward line. All you have to do is play him close in the forward line and he will drop the mark. And remember he is playing against VFL level defenders. They are much better in the seniors.

How many in the forward 50?

I thought most were in the central area.

I want him in the MFC team, just he is at the back end of the forward pecking order now.

Unfortunately I don't have those stats at the moment, but 2 of his goals were from set shots (from memory) so obviously took a few inside 50, and given he also played in the ruck and higher up the ground (had 18 disposals) it's a pretty fair return.

I don't think he's coming in the team soon (barring injury) because it seems clear now his best role is a bit of a mix of what TMac and Jackson currently do and neither of them are coming out.

How'd Weid go?

18 disposals, 7 marks, 3 tackles, 3 clearances, 4 hitouts, 3 goals straight.

He's playing well, just unfortunately it's in a role where he likely won't get a shot in the seniors at the moment.

Went to Werribee, Weid was ok, only dropped 1 mark in the first qtr that was a easy mark.  His timing was off seemed to either jump to early or late.  Also a number of times he tried to body a defender rather than jump at the ball.

Wasn't a dominant game but did ok

I’d love to try him down back, something might click about the way defenders play him or read the play from some time down back. They could’ve swapped him with Bradtke after half time today.

But I still the reality is his best position is forward/ruck where he gets some easy touches.

His linking handball play is exceptional.

I also think he tires at AFL level. Maybe he plays 3 weeks and takes the 4th off if he gets back in the side? Clubs are so wedded to traditional ways of managing players and I think some guys might just be different.

Played well.

Got 3 goals, with one being a Joe the goose.

Gave off a couple of goals.

Competed well in the air

I quite like him in the ruck.

Worked hard.

Good, positive attitude all game.

Starting to wonder whether a trip to Specsavers might be in Weid's best interest. It's not just pack marks he's spilling. It's like the ball suddenly gets big on him.

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
