Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Whatever Weid is on, the replacement will be on less.

I still see this as getting a lot of future picks and salary cap room, for a big play next year and maybe in the process, improving this year's 2, but now maybe 3 picks.

Keeping Weid as a 3rd ruck doesn't quite cut it to me. The obvious thing is the kid deserves a fresh start. But apart from that:

Ok, he could come in and play as the 2nd ruck. But in that scenario Grundy/Gawn is rucking 80% of game time, which means Weid is playing 60% forward and we haven't seen that work since 2018. We also have JVR and Tom McDonald who can pinch hit in the ruck.

If he's the first choice ruck then he's going to get beaten up by good AFL rucks just based on size alone, and whilst I like his follow up on the deck and against certain opponent he'll compete ok in the air he's not winning that match up against most first choice rucks. We saw him as the number 1 ruck v Adelaide this year and ROB had a field day. And that's ROB, who probably doesn't rate in the top 10 rucks.

So if we're getting smashed in the ruck with Weid we may as well get smashed in the ruck with an actual ruckman who has the developmental scope to become a good player in the future.

There will be someone out there who fits the bill. I'm not a huge Jack Bell fan but he came on a heap at Casey late in the season before making way for finals, wouldn't shock me entirely if they picked him up. Plenty of other state league big guys out there too.

I feel for Sam a bit. I personally think most of his issues are in his head. Yes he goes missing in games but sometimes I feel he was tossed around a lot by the selection panel, in out in out, that in itself would put pressure on anyone. I wish him all the best, seems like a good kid.

He is a nice guy. Wish him the best. It's funny that the side he is going to, has so many talls.

Didn’t the club come out and say we aren’t trading Weideman? What happened?

Tim Lamb came out on day 1 of trade week saying Sam’s going nowhere and we will demand the world for LJ. He’s been called on both bluffs it seems.

Hopefully he can do some wheeling and dealing in the next few days.

Luke Jackson, M.Brown, Daw, maybe Tomlinson, and now Weid? Even with Grundy coming back are we potentially going into 2023 with the shortest list in modern history? Add in injury concerns around B. Brown and Tomald. Not a trick question.

Essendon have been behind the 8 ball this entire trade period (and insert other jokes here).

They seem to have gone down a laundry list of midfield options from Bowes to Harmes to Setterfield later in the week.

When they eventually settled on the cheapest midfield option they probably decided they could have a go at a tall.

If Weid goes for a useful draft pick then that's clear incentive to move him on when there wasn't any incentive last week.

Really hoped he woukd turn it around.  But this move is best for everyone.

As for ruck back up, there is always rucks available.  And with grundy coming in it's not as if we need a really really good back up.

Maybe Sweet from the dogs or just the best ruck from the SANFL, WAFL or VFL

Sam is not a ruckman.  He was played there at Casey because simply,  we had no one else after Daw retired. He was beaten in the ruck contests in every VFL game I saw. As usual he showed glimpses around the ground in Casey games but he never has in his 59 games for Melbourne (2018 Elim Final v Geelong excepted).  He's been with us since his teens and is now 25yo.

It's time.

A ruckman we should go after is the Norwood ruckman Harry Boyd won the Jack Oatey medal BOG in the SANFL GF was amazing that day in wet conditions.

Turned the game for the Redlegs imposing young man i think 23 years old.

Didn't see the SANFL GF but stats impressive.  64 hit outs, 20 kicks etc. Also was Ist ruck in SANFL team of the year. A Shep boy coached by Jade Rawlings past 2 years. 24yo, 198 cm.

Worth looking at 👍

Being from SA and a mad Redlegs fan I'd say keep ya grubby hands of him.

He is only 196cm which is a little worryingat AFL level.  But as a back up he would be good, he is also handy up fwd.  Not only did he win the Jack Oatey medal he won the club Best and Fairest and came 6th in the Magarey Medal (SANFL Brownlow)

Very good option, but also stay away 😉

We had a lot of interest in Flynn in his draft year,  my guess is we'd be after him?

I wonder if he could then form part of the Bedford trade...

Agree with the two above. Though it would be reliant on Flynn agreeing to the trade. Would he want to come to Melbourne and be third in line behind Gawn and Grundy as opposed to trying to get past Meek and Preuss at GWS???

The Rookie list might be our best bet. Harry Boyd from Norwood in the SANFL is 198cm, 108kg mobile ruck at 24 years of age who was named in the SANFL team of the year. Can also play key back and rest forward. Originally from country Victoria as well, so no go home factor.

Then there's also Hamish Free from South Fremantle in the WAFL who was named in their team of the year. Also 24, 202cm and 103kg. Though he is from WA, so more of a flight risk.

A bit disappointing if it's not the Nth 2nd, could easily be a pick over 30. So the total package may be:

13, roughly 10-12, 30 for Jackson and 40-44.

I thought teams aren’t allowed to trade out their future 1st & 2nd? Or am I wrong about that?

Good point. So maybe it is North's?

Or the AFL sign off on this when they won't for Port

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
