Injuries and lack of games cooked Hannan.

Hunt Spargo and Baker showed some good girl in odd games but went missing for 2/3 games when needed as support to our stars.

Is this a term of which I am ignorant?

Thats why we need to stop looking at some on our list and move on ie move than on as we will not improve.

Really Baker Jordan Sparrow Bedford and Chandler should all have been given time and matches to test them out this year. We are none the wiser re them to hold or release some!

FWIW Sparrow looks the goods Baker showed some great skill and needs at least one more year free from injury and I think Jordan has always looked promising his pace being questioned mainly and Bedford improved but his next level is needed consistently and who knows? Plus Chandler who May be lucky to survive.

It's interesting as I don't think these guys will get a game while we have Trac, Clarrie, Viney, Harmes, Brayshaw in the same team.  Love them all but can't see our fortunes changing much if this isn't shaken up a bit.

Spine tingling!  Still brings happy tears.

Up there  with the Watts QB goal for unbridled joy and emotion.

Sad to see him go.

I love this goal.   I could watch it all day

I've had a soft spot for Hannan.  Thought he was destined to be a regular in our 22 for years to come, but poor form and injury haven't helped.

I also think the club was beginning to realise that they couldn't have Fritsch, Melksham and Hannan in the same forward line with Weideman and Jackson (and now potentially Brown), so perhaps he saw the writing on the wall.

As others have said, that goal in the final against Geelong is one I'll always come back to when the chips are down.  One of the best highlights of the decade for us.

Sad to hear but not a big loss; just not consistant enough.  Thanks for your service Mitch and if you ever need a drafting job, give me a bell!!

I've always thought Hannan has what it takes to make it as a fast medium forward - marking height but pace to go with it.

Just never seemed to be able to develop consistency - felt like he'd play a good game or two but then disappear for a game or two.

We've got too many mid-sized forwards on our list so this isn't the end of the world. If he makes it at the Dogs, good on him.

If Mitch would rather be not quite good enough at Footscray than us then that's his prerogative.

Officially requested a trade to Bulldogs. i feel a bit sad about this, liked him. But this is life, if Goodwin didnt play him, then fair enough and we have a few of his types.

We are such a poor kicking team I think we need blokes like Hannan. I’d be asking a decent second rounder for him.

Good luck Mitch that goal against Geelong will always be remembered it was a ripper.

Like Mitch and feel for him given he was in and out of the side more than someone like Melksham who was arguably worse in many games throughout the year.

Having said that, we seem to run too many hybrid medium/talls in the forwardline and we're in desperate need of a change up in terms of personnel in our forward 50. I'm hoping we target another small, highly skilled and high pressure forward similar to pickett.

Quality entries inside 50 and pressure on defenders in our D50 are so important and for the last two years we've underperformed in both those areas.

Pretty sad to say such is our highlights reel,  but that is up there in the greatest moments I've experienced at the G in my half century. Unforgettable.

Really looked the part at times. Great hands and eye for goal. Had the odd great game and great quarter within games but ultimately not consistent enough.

Best of luck Mitch. That goal will live long in the memory.

Bulldogs will only be in this draft for points to take their next generation academy kid.   It would be great to give them the points they need and get some how get access to their first round pick which they won’t be using anyway.

I remember it as if it were only 2-years ago. Was sitting next to a Geelong supporter who was crapping on that we were front-runners and starting to crumble. Seconds later this play happened and he turned into a Cadbury Flake.

He was only a good kick on his left, though. And, like we've seen with so many others, an ability to kick isn't a saving grace if you don't get the ball often enough.

I hope he has a good career at the Bulldogs.

I saw a screenshot of a text exchange between him and a friend (can’t guarantee it was real) which suggested Melbourne told him he was no longer required. His tone was positive - suggested he loved the Dees just wasn’t meant to be for him

Well its certainly not a real friend if he has leaked that private convo.

It’s a little sad, I think he would’ve been frustrated at seeing Melksham constantly getting games despite average output but I understand him wanting to go to the doggies. I could actually see him doing ok there, I hope this means we re-sign Hunt though.

Will always be remembered for that goal in the finals!

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
