Reading this will see assistant coaches inc maybe Richardson as not sure what he’s role is & he wouldn’t be cheap either & inc Mahoney on thin ice. Goodwin will have the blow torch on him

I may be wrong but it doesn’t appear that an external party is assisting with the review which makes me very sceptical about its value. We’ll see what eventuates but I expect to see some significant changes. I’ll be mightily disappointed if we get another whitewash like last year.

Nor did I. Emails are for nerds.

Good to hear Pert is performing a thorough review. He needs to set the standards, do his job and make us successful off field to facilitate the on field

He knows what he's talking about however l don't understand what it all means.   derrrrr!

He coulda got the work experience kid who wrote it to give us a bit of a report on a home base. Maybe even a bit of, bitterly dissapointed we let you down stuff as well...

Me either. I hear there’s a ban on metal heads.

I still can’t work out how we’re an unassisted club given our low membership numbers and a year of no crowds (unless we got a massive windfall from those 350 or so people that attended most of our ‘home’ games).

He has also taken responsibility for conducting the coaching review, which means that all decisions will ultimately be on him. You'd think there will be pretty significant changes, as he'll want to get it right, not only for the club's sake, but for his own.

So pleased he’s done a ‘deep dive’ rather than a thorough analysis.

Yeah did that straight away.

I read this email out loud to myself in Gary Pert's voice last night and then proceeded to talk like that for the rest of the night.

We have the cash from the sale of the Leighoak club las year. After clearing debts we had approx $7m left over. Not sure how much we've had to dip into this to tide us over.

Didn't we get promised an EXTERNAL review if we didn't make finals?

There's a reason teachers don't let kids mark their own homework ...

Classic corporate waffle

What else can you expect when the AFL is now a corporate business.   For those who follow footy in the off-season it is useless waffle as you say.  But it is perhaps of some use to those members who aren't following footy media etc -  it lets them know the club is doing something however ill-defined.  Probably be complaints of lack of member communication if nothing was sent.

Pert is the right choice.  He understands football and the current club issues.

But importantly By putting him front and centre gives him a major stake in accountability to now get results. A whitewash will be the worst outcome career-wise for Pert and he will understand this.

Spare me the external consultants in the current situation.

Just a hunch, but imo Pert has a 'hard edge'.  Exactly what our Club needs in this situation, and what most of us have been baying for.

Ironically, without it being a the corporate business it is today, we'd have very little to talk about in the off season at all, and therefore nothing to complain about when we get corporate lip service from the club.

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
