Langdon has been a massive success on one wing but Tomlinson less so and maybe he's found his slot as 3rd tall back - anyway he provides decent multi-role flexibility on matchday.

I'd like us to try Mitch Hannan for an extended period on the other wing in the pre-season and next year.  He's a footballer, a nice left foot kick, has some speed, is a decent size at 189/87 and is quite strong overhead.  Maybe his endurance and repeat sprints aren't up to it, but he's got a mature body and should be able to put in solid work over summer with Burgess to address this.

We've got an oversupply of medium marking forwards and Hannan can go missing in this difficult role.  I rate him and I think we can get more out of him.

Could be the next Steven Stretch.  Not sure of his running capacity but can take a hangar

I would like to see him tried at half back.

Langdon's skill is running to space and decent (not spectacular) disposal.

Does Hannan have those abilities ... and in these days is there even a role for two wingmen given the game is played in a virtual corridor

I don't mind this at all actually 

I'd give it a try in nab cup but his ability to find the ball needs work

hannan is another that we should move on if we are to be successful .

I think he should be tried at another club.  Plays one great game in 4.

Hannan is a keeper! I think he played as a midfielder in the ammos. I don't mind where they try him, wing or forward he brings a little X factor.

I like Hannan, but does he have the tank for the wing? Seems more of a 'burst' player who drifts in and out of games. I guess anything is possible with a big preseason tho.

 

It is a thought. Hannan has either been pidgeon holed are a flukey/ flash in and out  sort of forward or he is unwilling to learn to play or suggest he can new positions. He is not going to make it playing the way he does. it relies too much on the ball falling his way as he flashes in and out of play.

Too many fumbles and skittish disposal to be a stoppage player. Goes to ground too often as well.

Then there’s the tank issue. I assume Hannan can run pretty well but he hasn’t had a full preseason in yonks and has at least 1 dodgy knee.

His first month back was great. He was top 5 in the best and fairest. Then the body and confidence seemed to drop.

Im not sure if he stays on the list, but if he does he has to have the perfect summer to save his career. I’d start there before worrying about moving positions 

Posted something similar a little while ago. I think the idea has merit.

Currently the main issue I have with his game is that he often goes missing at length and I think that isn't helped by playing in our forward 50 where we have similar mid sized forwards in Melksham and Fritsch that are often used as hit up targets. Perhaps Hannan to a wing could improve our dynamic in the forward half while solving our outside run and spread? Worth a shot at least in my view.

Nothing to lose by giving him a shot, however, part of the successful decision to recruit and place Ed Langdon on the wing is the fact that he has a fresh approach, brings a new face to the club, and owns that position. That's what's needed on the other wing as well. Don't believe Hannan brings that, so I'd be suggesting another fresh face (outside of MFC)

Hannan does have good, quality disposals. The demands for a 'bomb' have still existed quite regularly on the forward wing where he plays and comes into the game, yet he has largely avoided these zero percenters and has enabled some very good forward connections with his footwork. If we had better coaching, they would concentrate on him developing further aerobic capacity to improve his serviceability as a wingman; he does have pace, timing and takes a good mark against some larger opponents. Kicking, however, is his best attribute.

give him the challenge over the break and off season to build his endurance with the carrot of a regular wing spot

see what happens.  we need him getting to more contests in the fwd line anyway if he is not successful.

Baker is doing well on the opposite side to Langdon, I would also like to see Bedford used on the wing considering it's where he played majority of VFL last year.

One of Langdon's biggest skills is holding ground and not getting sucked into every contest, it's what good wingman do, always there for the release or as you say run into space. It'd be better to try and teach a forward flanker those skills rather than an inside mid, but again it's more something that should come naturally to someone and the way Hannan plays as a forward shows he might at least have the running to space covered.

I don’t think Hannan is that quick. Certainly doesn't have a tank for the wing, but thst can be worked on. Also, a good outside/winger has to have a very good football brain, because what they do should result in a scoring opportunity. Langdon has that. Does Hannan?

Agree ?, think he would be a great Half back flanker. 

I think the lack of playing time in the 2s has bern especially difficult for Hannan as the main thing he seems to lack is the sustained concentration/awareness of the state of play and where to be to get involved or force opponents to cover him while other gaps open up. He's not stupid, and he's had some magnificent moments of making the most of being in the right place at the right time.

We've currently got a traffic jam of mid sized forwards who are inconsistent but not write-offs and their shared weakness is lack of defensive effort, whether hunting inside 50 or pushing back to interrupt rebounds. Whichever of that group does that best will find themselves a lock in the best 22 and will, by necessity, find themselves drifting up the wing defensively as well as ready for counterattacks.

To the extent that means 'Hannan on a wing' I agree with the OP, because I think he's got all the 'tools' to really capitalize if he can gain the wisdom and fitness to push hard to the right places.

Yes! good call..........Polly.  

He probably hasn't  the endurance that Langdon has but who does.  Hannan is a good mark and a good size for a wing position.. His pinpoint  passing is almost perfect. He will be 27 at the start of the  2021 season with a mature body.

 Could be a masterstroke !   It would probably come down to a strong pre season from him.   Is Goody listening.

The shifting of the magnets approach is not going to take us very far. Every line needs additions/upgrades. Trade in an elite running wingman ffs

yep. I think injuries have cruelled ,what started out as a really promising career. But given his knee ( who knows what else)  I highly doubt he's going to be able to grow a tank. I like him as a player, but I think we've already seen the best of him.
