One I haven’t seen mentioned yet: Ben Ronke

Has struggled with injury and been unable to recapture his form of 2018 which compares pretty favorably to Papley and Butler’s this year. Vastly more talented than Spargo/Bedford and would likely come for a third round pick.

Like it mate. Doesn't kick a ton of goals, but tackles a lot so Goody would like him. Out of contract too I think?

I like it. If we try really, really hard over the next few months, I'm sure we can have a list with May, Lever, Gawn and 37 small / medium forwards for next year.

For those who put any stock in Sam McLure's word, see here: https://www.sen.com.au/news/2020/09/22/sam-mcclures-comprehensive-trade-update-on-brown-daniher-crouch-saad-cameron/

He says he doesn't know about TMac but suggests non-Victorian clubs would be interested.

Says Hurley, Cameron and Perryman all staying and Brown going to Collingwood or Hawthorn.

Very ‘comprehensive’ indeed

Gunston, Breust and Saad should be the priorities!

0 goals from 3 games this year. 9 goals in 13 games last year. Has kicked more than 2 goals only twice, which was the day he somehow kicked 7 against the Hawks and then another game where he kicked 5 against North.

If you put those games down as massive outliers then he's no more of a scoreboard threat than Spargo. Maybe a slightly better tackler but not as clean with the ball.

Butler and Papley are much smarter. They create goals. Ronke's a quick player who just found himself in the right spot at the right time on a couple of occasions.

Is there much hope of Hogan returning?  He has seemed disinterested since he got there, he seemed to love being at Melbourne (who knows why?!).  Would be a good swap for both McDonalds

If his body and mind are both right I'd be delighted to have him back  as long as it doesn't cost us too much.

Like the idea of him and May in the same side.

not seeing enough love for narkle as a high HF rolling through the guts

I would love Gunston to be our target, pure class

high end trades dont seem to be our strong suit and I unaware of any one of note who has shown the slightest interest in coming .

On top of that we only have 2 realistic draft pick one in the mid twenties and one around mid forties .I have said previously that we can let 10 go without damaging our list structure .Where does this then leave us .? The Answer is ,i believe, that we spread the load and concentrate on b and c graders of the ilk of Polec and Hooker. They are not champions but are better than what we will let go. I do not see any possibility of Jesse returning but would be ecstatic if proved wrong on this .

I know it'll never happened, but I would love the club to ask the question to a former passionate demon supporter in Tim Tarranto.

Bulk picks on another inside mid would be such a Melbourne thing to do.

I dunno. Our best 22 squad of demon fans growing up is pretty stacked. Pendles, Judd, Gaff, Prestia. Might have to play him on a wing ?

Good point in the podcast this week about how journos only ever have players on the move going to 'big' clubs.

is there a general thread on trade rumours/deals involving non MFC clubs?

Im wondering where Daniher might go?

I think we should have a crack at Riley Collier-Dawkins. I know inside mid isn't what we need but this kid is a big body with legspeed and a heap of potential. If we're been bold and willing to let go of Viney or others we shouldn't be afraid to make a few offers.

Worst case scenario is it keeps Richmond honest and ups what they have to pay him.

RCD is one that crossed my mind. Was BOG in the VFL GF last season and looked like he would get games this year but couldn't force his way into the Richmond side. Still yet to debut and may look for a change for greater opportunity. The thing also with Richmond is that they have Baker, Aarts,  Pickett, Stack, Chol all still rookies currently playing that need to be upgraded to the main list so something has to give there.

Brandon Matera just delisted by the dockers. has played some good footy at times, has speed, knows where the goals are and we could pick him up for nothing.

worth a look?

No!

Ben Brown or Jesse Hogan? Who do you go for? It sounds like both would come relatively cheaply.

Would rather Peter Matera.

  • REPORT: Essendon

What were they thinking? I mean by “they” the coaching panel and team selectors who chose the team to play against an opponent who, like Melbourne, had made a poor start to the season and who they appeared perfectly capable of beating in what was possibly the last chance to turn the season around. It’s no secret that the Demons’ forward line is totally dysfunctional, having opened the season barely able to average sixty points per game which means there has been no semblance of any system from the team going forward into attack. Nevertheless, on Saturday night at the Adelaide Oval in one of the Gather Round showcase games, Melbourne, with Max Gawn dominating the hit outs against a depleted Essendon ruck resulting from Nick Bryan’s early exit, finished just ahead in clearances won and found itself inside the 50 metre arc 51 times to 43. The end result was a final score that had the Bombers winning 15.6 (96) to 8.9 (57). On balance, one could expect this to result in a two or three goal win, but in this case, it translated into a six and a half goal defeat because they only managed to convert eight times or 11.68% of their entries. The Bombers more than doubled that. On Thursday night at the same ground, the losing team Adelaide managed to score 100 points from almost the same number of times inside 50.

Despite a spirited third quarter surge, the Demons have slumped to their worst start to a season since 2012, remaining winless and second last on the ladder after a 39-point defeat to Essendon at Adelaide Oval in Gather Round.

  • GAMEDAY: Essendon

It’s Game Day, and the Demons are staring down the barrel of an 0-5 start for the first time since 2012 as they take on Essendon at Adelaide Oval for Gather Round. In that forgettable season, Melbourne finally broke their drought by toppling the Bombers. Can lightning strike twice? Will the Dees turn their nightmare start around and breathe life back into 2025?
