Oh enough with this crap about picking a speed team and then rain suddenly falling out of the sky. Turn it up.

We knew days out the weather could have been less than ideal and we knew that Freo were not really a team that needed to be matched for speed. It's shocking selection, it might have washed against St Kilda but this was a joke.

Because you post so much rubbish I have no idea if you mean this or not.

You probably do.

Bedford was probably our worst tonight and that's saying something.

At no stage did he do anything to suggest he's got a future at AFL level.

He's not the core problem (coaching, lack of game plan, wholehearted lack of effort and poor leadership), nor was he alone (add Smith, Baker, ANB, Hunt and Preuss to the list) but he's symptomatic of the problem. He's getting games when he's nowhere near good enough.

You just disagree for the [censored] of it. Playing his 2nd game he shows speed, put on good pressure and almost snagged a couple despite [censored] poor team mates around you.

Not really what I meant - hence the 'normal'. The only thing a vaccine will affect is the number of fans at a game. What I meant is games every weekend, 6/7 day breaks, full quarters (which will really help us), a proper pre-season, no trips to Adelaide then Brisbane then Alice then Cairns, and so on, and so on.

Gotcha

vaccine would affect domiciling of games and hubs tho, ie if none then yes better spacing but still hubs etc

I just don’t  understand why they can’t get up for these massive crunch games! It surely has to be the coaching? How can you not get players motivated for it? There must be factions within the team - it’s the only reason I can think of as to why it’s so disjointed. Either way, the buck stops with the coach.

The belief looks like it's deserted the team. Put in all the fitness work, drilled the "gameplan" all preseason, then find we're uncompetitive against decent sides. Our luck with injuries regresses to the mean, bizarre selections sapping confidence and cohesion, and lo and behold players' subconsciousnesses figure out that losing a few towards the tail end ain't so bad - no need to back up again in finals against teams we won't stack up against anyway. Team play breaks down. Here we are. [censored].

They're not going to sack him lads - forget about it. There are too many alibis this year. Played off back to back 4 day breaks in muck conditions after an exhausting win in Alice Springs. They're about where most judges expected them to be. You can complain about the game style all you like, but there's no planning or coaching for two fumbles in D50 and a banana from the boundary on the run.

The Board will give him and the game plan a clear look at it in 2021 with footy being back to 'normal' and I expect next year it's make finals or bust.

Sorry but these excuses don’t stack up. Everyone has had a hard season. Granted some more than others, but we’ve had a dream injury run until this week, and we are in the same short break cycle as everyone else. Sydney had the same break as us. Freo one extra day. Big deal.

I am sick of the excuses. Last year injuries. This year Covid. Covid has impacted everyone including 17 other clubs but I don’t see them using it as an excuse.

When the game was there to be won and the heat was on, we had a team of hapless ditherers.

When it comes down to it, they either had no idea what to do or where paralysed with ineptitude.

WTF was that?  Seriously.  Against a side like that, we played the most defensive set-up we've seen all year and concede the entire back half of the ground to them so they can chip it around and rack up the uncontested stats.  IF ever there was an occasion to attack the game, today was it.  That was just tactically backwards from Goodwin.  Horrible tactics, horrible skills, terrible game all around.  There were only a few who actually put an effort in.

Delusional. It wouldn't matter who the coach was, no-one's going to be winning finals with this list - not in the short-term anyway.

Not sure why it's so hard for people to face up to the fact that we just don't have the players. The proof will come when we cut a dozen of them and no other club picks them up.

We have enough quality on the list to be pushing top 6 at least. This constant underselling if the players is ridiculous, a better coach with a better plan and having the players play a better disciplined more structured game would see us play finals easily.

If you don't remember we actually won a couple of finals not that long ago. Making finals in a 8/18 comp isn't that great a hurdle. Except for us it seems.

Feelin flat ..

Rivers hold your head high.

When I saw the Ins this week I thought we were in trouble. Many not up to it.

Was garbage, As was Baker, as was Pickett.

Not the conditions to make a call on lightly built small forwards but Kossie lacks goal sense and that's a worry. He needs to cool his head.

I doubt it. I really don't want to talk COVID, but if we eradicate the virus domestically by next March there will be no reason to have hubs at all.

exactly. was cyril a star in his first game? how about mickey walters?

bedford and pickett need games games games for the next year together and at the feet of weid to. blokes wanting his head are the same blokes that want hannan and cwags in for hunt and nibbler and the exact same move reversed next week when the giants do a job on us.

I'm [censored] off but unsurprised. Haven't really "loved" the club since the Northey years. Since then it's same old. Lose the unloseable. Choke when the pressure is on. Last two games I've been fairly indifferent. If you couldn't see these loses coming with all the variables + Melbourne just being Melbourne well you're very naive. Not to make excuses but the variables that *could* make you lose a game are piled onto Melbourne at an exponential rate and when coupled with the club's general ability to be all round [censored] at the worst possible times, there wasn't a surer thing in the universe.

Mind you three weeks ago we were a 80% chance of making finals based on "modelling". If someone could create a Melbourne model we'd probably achieve the technological singularity such is the sheer complexity of the club's senselessness and ineptness.

I would, but my wife would be furious.

Goodwin: "We need to play better footy"

How much is this guy getting paid again??!

Goodwin apparently thinks it's a good experience to lose a must win game. Has he forgotten the end to the 2016 and 2017 seasons?

  • PREVIEW: West Coast

It was bad enough that the Melbourne Football Club created yet another humiliating scenario inside its wretched season at Marvel Stadium last Sunday, but the final insult is that it has been commanded to return to the scene of the crime to inflict further punishment on its fans this week. Incidentally, if this match preview, of a game that promises to be one of the most unattractive fixtures in the history of the game, happens to cut out of your computer screen three quarters of the way through, it’s no coincidence. I’ll be mirroring the Demons’ lacklustre effort against St Kilda from last Sunday when they conceded the largest last quarter turnaround for victory in the history of the game.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

When looking back at the disastrous end to the game, I find it a waste of time to concentrate on the final few moments when utter confusion reigned. Forget the 6-6-6 mess, the failure to mark the most dangerous man on the field, the inability to seal the game when opportunities presented themselves to Clayton Oliver, Harry Petty and Charlie Spargo, the vision of match winning players of recent weeks in Kozzy Pickett and Jake Melksham spending helpless minutes on the interchange bench and the powerlessness of seizing the opportunity to slow the tempo of the game down in those final moments.
