Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

This game will be no walk in the park. Some of the comments on here saying we should beat them easy have seriously no idea. This is the kind of game that on paper we should beat easily, but we don't.

I don't mind the selections. People making out like Spargo is the worst footballer in the league is downright just [censored] poor form. The kid only played off in a prelim as an 18 year 2 years ago against the eventual premiers. He's lost his way a little, but he's got the work rate to work his way back into form. He had an absolute shocker in round 1, but willing to give him another guy because he brings added pressure into our forward line.

What worries me is that we legitimate don't have a genuine ruckman. McDonald has the tank to play as a ruckman, but don't expect many hitouts. Needs to really get on his bike and outwork Goldstien.

Brayshaw, Harmes, Sparrow. The opportunity is right in front of them now to grab the midfield spot and take it with both hands.

First time our 2019 draftees in Jackson, Rivers, Pickett will played together for the first time in red and blue. We are the only club this year to have all of our draftees playing in the same game.

Another good tick for Jason Taylor and his crew.

Agree.

We have a lot of young talent and north haven't thrown in the towel yet.

Stats wise North are better at clearnces and contested possession in 2020 (for those of you playing at home thats how we win games).

This will most likely be a grind and with Viney and Max out its definitely no walk in the park.

He wasn't great on Wed night PF, sherked a few contests and work rate was really poor.

Can't keep your spot dishing out that sort of effort.

Melk says hello W4.  Can't remember the last time he was dropped and he's had plenty of chances bringing the same efforts or lack thereof.  Rarely tackles anywhere let alone inside 50 where he should be bringing decent heat for a senior.

I Agree Rusty before the Hawks game i was calling for his head but his last month has been decent. He does hit the scoreboard 5 goals in 3 games, 3 tackles inside 50 against the Crows

I'd take his output over Bennell's anyday.

I can't state a case for Bennell and Brayshaw was on thin ice until his 2nd half cameo.

May is a Beast, winning me over in the last month. Our best defender by a mile and Lever getting back to his best.

Might be Lever as El Capitano on Sunday.

May would be the obvious choice but he might be still paying the penalty from last year’s drinking incident.

Have a sneaky feeling it might be Lever, though others on DL have suggested it’s Melksham.

hope it's nate jones

really intriguing team selection

north have been a pretty good pressure team so far this year, so we've obviously picked on that basis

not having gawn there makes for an interesting situation; i see nothing wrong with throwing jackson the gauntlet HOWEVER i am not a fan as i have really liked the whacko / weed combo of tall forwards

as per selection, we've got a lot smaller, younger, and less experienced with losing gawn and viney

There is absolutely no context or relevance in this post but Weideman has the 5th best average of goal per game in the league of 2.0.

That last quarter 50 metre set shot goal against Port may have turned his set shot woes around and boosted his confidence. Kicked nicely vs Adelaide.

Spargo was good in 2018 after a commendable debut. He was rubbish in 2019 along with the rest of them. Glad he’s getting another crack.

Even in 2018 Spargo only hit the scoreboard in 9 of his 18 games and averaged less than 1 goal assist per game. He has had a handful of good games in three years and has gone backwards. I hope he plays a ripper and proves me wrong, but is squarely in the delist category for me at this stage.

I’m going to back Jackson I’m against Goldy though. IMO that’s the right call. He is improving and was recruited as a ruck and will offer more than Preuss other than in the taps. He should first ruck most of the game with TMac and Weid predominantly forward. No idea who should second ruck though. Probably TMac for team balance and he has the tank to do it around the ground.

Are you going for some sort of record to see how many times you can rubbish Spargo in a single topic?

Spargo had a terrific 2018 where he played his role in the team to the satisfaction of the coaches

2019 was like others, injury ruined @Kent

Brendan McCartney told me Spargo was one player who always makes the right decision going inside 50, of course, that's only his opinion

That's the thing I've always thought he had going for him.

Look at his good games from '18 and it's his vision/reading of the play that stood out. Some of his passing inside 50 was fantastic.

Needs to get lots more of it and apply manic pressure consistently though.

I have genuine hopes for Weid, I couldn’t understand why he wasn’t being played when clearly the forward set up wasn’t working with Tom and Fritta (with Fritta being our main forward).

I think we should be very encouraged by what we’ve seen from him so far this year.

I want the best 22 in the side not the worst 22. Spargo is in the worst 22 he makes our team worse I can't stand that.

The kid is in his third year after rightfully maintaining his place in our 2018 side for most of his first year. He allegedly is one of our hardest trainers and workers and whilst small is willing with high footy iQ. We desperately need to land a second pressure forward to partner with Kozzie. Whilst I personally prefer the attributes of Bedford I will assume that Spargo has put in the work and he is the one who has been mentioned as performing in a variety of the scratch matches. Outside of that we dont have many options. People will point to Hannan and Hunt but they are more mid size leading forwards and we have enough of those. He is the role we need for our forwardline to best function.

Even on his viewed output in 2018 and potential to improve I would choose Spargo over ANB at any point pre suspension. I would pick him this week over the current lack of defensive ethic and confidence that Bennell has in his body. He may not set the world on fire today, he may miss a tackle or not kick a goal from 40 but he will give his all. All I am looking for is high pressure acts and connecting with the ball well when he gets his hands on it. He will do that and I suspect if others play with a similar frame of mind today the result will look after itself.

The selection decision is made, how about we back the kid in.

We have 4 players to look after Goldstein. TMac/Weid/Jacko/Tomlinson. 3 of those with big tanks. I wouldn't be surprised if we Ruck in zones. Tomo back half, TMac/Jacko mostly central and HF and Weid/Jacko f50.

Spargo may play some midfield in the Viney role, with Sparrow. We need Trac/Gus to get outside pill also, along with Clarry at times.

Hannan and Kozi alternating deep and around the arc. Fritta/Melksham high half forwards. Spargo assisting(hopefully not leading).

North will set up expecting to win most hitouts, if we win midfield we should be able to open space and play the over the top checkers game.

Their forward line doesn't stress me so our backs should be able to keep this mob to 50/60 points. TMac or Tomo can go back if we start to lose the midfield and they get repeat i50's. They have 2 talls at 195+

I would prefer Harmes as a mid but he may have to play HBF on Zurhaar. Hibbo/Rivers and Salem should manage to play their roles, rebound and link up.

Spargo/Sparrow/Jones to go through the midfield with Melksham at times. AVB wing with Tomo.

I'm expecting our mids to win, they don't look that deep North. They have good ball users though, can't afford to cough it up like v Crows.

Overcast conditions at night so hopefully no due and a solid pill to hang on to.

Go Dees

I generally tend to agree with McCartney's assessment; especially on 2018 form. In 2019 Spargo had a loss of form and seemed to start second-guessing himself and he became tentative (amateur psycho-analysis at 150 metres).  Hopefully he's regained form and confidence and can put on a good showing today.

Tbh im unsure. All i know is he's unavailable this season.

I reckon he will be a very handy 3rd tall down back or even pitch hit up forward (thankfully though Jackson and Weed look like they'll do t he job now).

May, Lever & Petty would make a handy back 3 to build around i reckon.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
