You make up your own mind mate.

Like I said, I'll need to watch the 1st half again

Tmac is the new Hogan, we win games without him even though on paper and on past the team should be better with him in it.

Tmac has been the new Dawes for me...lacks mobility, can't put on forward pressure & wasn't holding his grabs...

I love it (hilarious) when supporters put players 'on notice" and why AVB?

13 touches at 53% efficiency after 11 with 72% the week before. Four clangers in both games. His pressure is undoubtedly very good but for me his ball use has been lacking. I don't think he's been terrible but Jones and Tomlinson would both be gunning for his spot, and I think we need to always drive high standards.

AVB: Surprised it was that high... (efficiency)

One more week...I'm not a Tomlinson fan

Jones...maybe

Hard to gauge the worth of Lockhart from the TV coverage.  Happy to leave that with the selectors.

Jackson v T Mac Donald.....no idea but I can't see us playing three talls each of which still have question marks on their weekly consistency.

Fritsch and Weid need some goal kicking practice

I'd be giving Tmac a scratch match to find some form before bringing him in.

only change i'd consider is a replacement for Lockart. not sold he's AFL standard.

if we could get Nathan Jones in for him i think that's a good result.

Just the one change T.Mac for Lockhart keep Jacko in he's a gun.

B: JETTA, MAY, LEVER

HB: SALEM, O.MCDONALD, HIBBERD

C : LANGDON, PETRACCA, HARMES

HF: PICKETT, T.MCDONALD, BENNELL

F: JACKSON, WEIDEMAN, FRITSCH

FOLL: GAWN, OLIVER, VINEY

IC: BRAYSHAW, VANDENBERG, HANNAN, MELKSHAM

I thought Harmes with his stupid free kicks against, Vanders and Lockhart were our worst but weren't horrible.

Gus will get better and we need Lockhart, Vanders and Harmes. So no change!

Jones in for Lockhart, still not convinced about Melksham.

Didn’t mind Lockharts game. Wasn’t sited much but I liked his creativity when he got it.

I hear what you’re saying about Melksham... better 2nd half but still not working to the level required. Playing lazy this year.

I don't feel comfortable dropping Jackson for TMac.

Having said that, we won't beat Brisbane if we can't compete inside 50 in the air (just as we couldn't beat West Coast in Round 1 without having competition in the air for McGovern et al).

Maybe TMac in for Melksham or vandenBerg, but I don't think that works well.

I'm inclined to say we go in unchanged (unless we're worried about aerobic fitness for a cram of games and need to rest some players to keep them going).

People are calling for Lockhart to make way but did he play on Wingard? If so, as Wingard only had 10 touches (yes, 2 goals, but IMO no real impact on the game outside that), I think that was a job well done. I also think Lockhart is our only option for Charlie Cameron, other than Smith but I just can't stomach bringing Smith in and dealing with his erraticness against a top 4 side.

I'd bring Tom in for Vanders and play either him orJackson on the wing with Langdon, who played his best game so far. Vanders kicked the ball directly to an opponent several times with short passes or long bombs to a 50/50. It was like perfect passes each time except they were turnovers. His disposal is shocking, I'm thinking whilst Brayshaw did the same thing he also did a lot of creative stuff.

I’d consider bringing in TMac for Brayshaw and letting him have a crack at the wing role, Richo style. He’s one of our best endurance athletes and would provide a good marking option roaming all over the ground. Also gives the team some flexibility like a rich man’s Tomlinson. Brayshaw would be unlucky though as he improved through the game.

I’ve got no idea what will actually happen but the selectors have their mojo back the last couple of weeks so I’ll back them in.

Brayshaw won't be dropped. He's one of our best consistently.

Possible ins are Tmac and Jones.

Possible outs are Callista Flockhart and dunno.

I agree. Why can’t we play 3 tall forwards? They are all pretty mobile and athletic.

We can and should, especially as Jackson was recruited as he can play in the ruck, as a key forward, AND as an agile mid fielder especially as he is quick and agile. Play him as a centre or wing and let TMac and the Weid be the key forwards ably assisted by Fritz.

Pretty formidable l reckon, and very difficult to match up on.

How can you drop Jackson after today?

Correct.

Lets take the long term view.  On today's form no changes for the rest of the year,

Except for those on thin ice - Brayshaw and Melksham.

Yesterday we saw close to the new future .

Tmac hasn't played well or clunked marks since the '18 finals, Jones is problematic (I'd rather persevere with Lockhart who has speed and skill - sure the odd mistake but he'll learn) .

Sparrow, Rivers etc will get their chances too.

All other changes for '2020 based only on injury and management.

We should be able to play 3 talls, especially now with our outside run and wing coverage. If we'd done it in past years, we'd be absolute fodder on the rebound. WCE have been doing it for years, so why not us?

Harris Andrews is an absolute lock to shutdown Weid or TMac, with all due respect. He's the best defender in the game and the best Luke Hodge has ever played with. It would be better to have a decoy/negating forward on him running him out of our forward 50 or just playing a sacrificial role for the  other two talls to spread and provide leads and a contest away from his influence.

I don't understand the enthusiasm for T Mac by some after seeing yesterday.

Its 2020 not September 2018. Tmacs a defender or possibly a huge runner on the wing but if we break up the young forward structure , and deny them valuable experience this year its a backward looking step.

Please get your facts right. Brayshaws disposal was no worse than some others. He is the player who sees options and creates option. (no player has 100% DE especially when he is trying to take the game on rather than playing conservative football). He has ability to dispose on both sides of his body which is a rare skill in today's football. He is also a very competitive midfielder. Viney's disposal often leaves us exposed, but he brings other aspects to the table. Pickett only had 6 disposals today and no tackles yet some are lauding him . I think he was good also and once he learns to tackle he will be bloody brilliant. No player is perfect.

Picket third in pressure acts (third week in a row in our top 5) and kicked 2. Brayshaw’s poor disposals stand out more than the others as they are usually coming once we are outside the stoppage and are killing scoring chains. He wont be dropped but he and Vanders (More so) need to clean this up otherwise someone will bang the door down and go past them.

Also even when they announce shortened turnarounds this week that think we will manage this week in preparation must surely be kidding. Goody and team will want us to test our best against arguably the form team of the comp, let  the shortened turnarounds be managed after this one.

I think it'll be TMac for Jackson.

Probably best if Harris Andrews isn't playing on Weid or Jackson.

TMac will be there to compete with (and negate) Andrews. Would be great to double-down and keep Jackson in the lineup, he's unique, versatile and allows a more dynamic team structure.

Good to see another week of us struggling to consider changes.

Cooling - AVDburger, Melksham. Brayshaw was ok. Lockhart did what he had to do.

Sure Tmcd probably comes in so it’s between AVB and Melksham for me.  AVB disposals were generally poor but tackling and pressure are pluses. Melksham didn’t involve himself in the contest but his goalkicking ability is always handy.

Wouldn’t be against Tomlinson for Brayshaw.

Tmac comes in if fit. No idea who for

My knock on Tomlinson is that, for mine, he's not an out and out competitor.

The following users have been a bit quiet since saying that Oliver needed to be dropped and has been a liability? Where are you guys now? Typical reactionary posters.  Players don't improve their skills/decision making in a fortnight so why not drop him now?

AvB (and Kozzie) may not get a lot of the ball but their mere presence running full bore towards the opp creates so much 'inferred pressure' that he rushes the disposal;  he knows a bone-crunching tackle is coming his way or will be caught HTB.

The presence of 'inferred pressure' shouldn't be underestimated in causing turnovers and creating contests which is when we do our best work.  Avb (and Kozzie) are very good with their second efforts, again more pressure.

AvB stays.

this is a game where match ups are really important to look at.

They Have in the way of talls:

Back: Andrews (Weid) / Gardner ( Jackson) - TOM MC Stretch their defence?

FWD: Hipwood (Oscar) / McStay (May) / Oscar Macinerny ( TOM MC down Back?)

Ruck: Steph Martin (Max)

Charlie Cameron is their most dangerous player, one of the best in teh comp.. this match up needs to be spot on is it Hibbo? he is playing well

Leave Lockhart and Brayshaw alone.

Out. Melksham

In. Sparrow.

Give tmac another week to sort his head out.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.
