Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I just don't think people are valuing his hardness at the ball and the ferocity he brings, that is worth more. I don't care about his name, or his heritage, it is his attack on the football, and so he is not a superstar with his DE, I can live with because the pressure he brings makes up that difference. And it is far from the worst over the season. I just cannot stand our limp efforts, he might get beaten occasionally but he never gives up.

DD it’s gone too far away from that game nowadays. You need to have some skill with the ball/footy brain/leadership. I also don’t think he brings that often enough during a season, it’s very hard to do so in this spread type game that AFL has become.

This has 100% been leaked to Jay Clark by his manager to try and get the Dees to panic and up their offer. it's very common these days.

I hope we hold firm and only pay Jack what we think he's worth. it's hard to see him actually leaving by choice

Jack Viney leaving helps us, not hinders for mine.

Gus plays in the guts more - who is much more creative than Viney's limited disposal skills - and we get likely first rounder in return.

I've also never really warmed to Jack's "do what I do" leadership. I honestly don't think it's a bad thing that he leaves.

Yes, perfect opportunity to free up the inside midfielder excess and add a talented kid with the 1st round compo pick.

Viney wont get any better and with the battering his body has taken he could be cooked before 30.

Because, our club must stand for something and Legacy, Tradition, Heart & Soul aside... He gives 110% effort 110% of the time - last week's running back with flight a classic example

That's what I want our club to stand for! No compromises ?

Yea gives “110%”... legacy indeed. The legacy of this club is failure.

We currently stand as a club of absolute underachievement, a soft, gets ahead of itself, drinks it’s own bath water never will be’s and won’t win a flag. He’s been a leader of this club and where it stands today.

We have to give something up to get something back. There is a bit to like about extra midfield minutes that a JV move would buy Brayshaw, and that would have quite some upside. We've seen how quickly players can drop off - esp. those who've had foot injuries, etc. (E.g. TMac) - and I daresay we've seen Jack's ceiling. If I had to choose one of our mids out of Viney, Oliver, Brayshaw or Trac to let go, I'd have to say Viney.

The bloke gives everything, every minute of every game and is a fine leader.

We're a mid-table side whose main issue seems to be consistency of effort and a lack of on-field leadership.

This sounds like the worst place to start making changes.

Effort only goes so far.

Retaining Jack backs the effort philosophy, in retaining a player who constantly gives their all.

Letting him go backs the talent...allows Brayshaw to play a bigger role & getting a highly rated player in through the draft who may have a higher ceiling than Jack.

It's an interesting one.

I'm not too keen on the idea of Jack leaving the club, but if we were to leave and we secured a pick between 8-10 for him, we could end up in a great position to trade for Papley. If that is the end result I think our team would be better for it.

Jack leaving benefits us, only if he leaves on his own terms.

If we push him out or low ball him to force the issue, it's a culture damaging move, unless there is an issue behind the scenes with his relationships.

it's good. We're a [censored] club with basically no hope for the future. Especially with no picks, and our inside midfielders consistently running into each other and offering no outside spread. Viney is the worst in this regard. Trade and get the pick right.

If the $650k figure is about where things are at then I’d happily let him walk.

Big money for a battering ram and we have a bloke who is very similar and a little more rounded waiting in the wings in Sparrow.

All depends on the compensation for me. Keeping in mind if we went after a free agent ourselves, that would dilute the compensation.

I would imagine he is highly paid, given he was captain up until this year and is a restricted free agent, so if he leaves, I imagine it would be a pretty healthy contract that could result in a decent pick.

There is no point trading Viney (or Brayshaw for that matter) for anything other than a ready made player that meets a pressing need right now. Why take a draft pick or developing player that may help us several years down the track, if indeed they actually make it.

That said, I wish we had access to Geelong's unlimited salary cap. They must have about 15 blokes earning between $500K and $800K - what does that leave for the rest?

    TRAINING: Friday 19th April 2024

They are out for a run just as it starts raining. It didn't last long, ended up a reasonable session weather wise.  Light duties, BBB, rehab Farris-White, Melky, Salem and Spargo, all with private trainers. They are all playing soccer, huge amount of noise. 36-40 (difficult to get a count) in the main squad, biggest I've seen it in ages. Choco is barking out the orders. Goody has intense body language as he observes. Bowey in a lime green cap (no contact), and in the sim

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

    MAULED by Whispering Jack

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
