Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Viney is a player with his flaws, but you are completely deluded if you think we’re better off without him or with a second round lottery ticket/draft pick and starting from scratch with an 18 year old. Of course we re-sign him.

It’s only the remotest possibility that he gets an offer elsewhere that is hugely in excess of ours AND he indicates he wants to go. I expect there will be enough good will on both parties’ behalf that an agreement will be reached quickly. If that remote possibility did come to pass then we deal with it then, but all the planning now should be around re-signing him.

Only club who would want Viney is the Crows.
I firmly believe we need to retain Viney. There is no magic in trade picks as shown by many clubs over many years. The Blues and Dees and Suns have had countless top picks and 1st rounders yet go nowhere. You need to teach players and improve year on year. Viney has huge pluses that simply don’t get found easily. In round 1, he was clearly our best player. Like Oliver, his disposal and decisions need coaching. Coaching. You don’t simply trade away former skippers, current leaders. You invest and show that the club is loyal and values its players.

However, our current midfield isn’t working and one of Viney, Oliver, Harmes, Petracca or Brayshaw needs to be traded (or released to free agency in Viney’s case) to get back into the draft.

This is the main part I agree with.  I don't agree with trading Viney, but we need to do something a little different in our midfield.

I think Goodwin has at least tried to do something, and in one instance it has worked - Trac playing more midfield minutes has been the perfect move.  However, as we all know, we're a little one dimensional in there at the minute and it hurts a bit.  I think the move of Harmes to half back had merit, but it didn't really work.  At least he had a crack at changing things up.

To me, we can only have two at most of Viney, Brayshaw, Harmes and Oliver running through the midfield, especially at centre bounces.  Does Goodwin look to change it up further - does he throw Salem in there?  Does he give someone like Kozzie Pickett five minutes a term in there to spice things up?  I think we have options, but we don't need to pull trades for no reason to make it happen.  I'd even try Melksham in there to freshen him up - why not go Oliver, Melksham and Trac with Gawn at the first centre bounce?

Either way, I'm against trading Viney as I don't think it's the answer.

We desperately need KPF if a club came to you and said we will trade Brayshaw for a good one would you do it?

While his disposal was abysmal last week, I remember who was our best player in round 1 in Perth and who helped get us into a Prelim in 18. Agree he won’t be going anywhere but needs to be coached into giving off the easy option and not trying to always go deep.

I think what many of forget ( me included) is that footballers have bad days and all make mistakes on a regular basis. It just seems we have a large number doing it regularly at present.

Right now, which club is this? Would the Suns or Saints trade a King for Gus? No chance in hell.

Name the tall forward who is gettable for a Gus or even a Viney. I'm interested to see who you think is gettable.

I am just talking about the principle would you trade Gus for  a good KPF?

Fogarty or Larkey spring to mind, but would rather chase the free agent options this year.

Why would any club just randomly offer up a good KPF when they are so hard to come by? It’s easy to put up random what ifs but they’re rarely realistic. People seem to forget to take their Demons scarf off and that the trade needs to be suitable for both parties.

Jack will be fine, don't forget he is expecting the birth of his first baby, which should be arriving in the next few weeks.?

So i think after our new little member comes into the world, Jack will be back.

Baby arrived last week I believe.

Jack was outstanding tonight, even with Oliver in the guts Jacks hardness and second efforts are unique. We should hold onto him and if it comes to it, entertain the idea of trading Brayshaw.

I am just asking would you exchange a good in and under mid for KPF? Well would you?

I guess if the hypothetical question isn’t bound by realism, I suppose I’d begrudgingly give up Brayshaw for Tom Lynch of the Tiges, so long as they threw in Dusty as a sweetener.

Obviously I’m being smart with that answer, but I think it’s an irrelevant because it’s never going to come up as a possibility. The only time an actually good KPF is ever going to come up is if they want to leave their current club, in which case we won’t have to give up a first choice midfielder to get him.

Untradeable IMO. Bloke regularly makes you tear your hair out but he is heart and soul and doesn't shy away from contact. Harmes and gus are trade bait

I love JV but trading Harmes or Gus is not the answer, this is an area of the field we have A grade depth you don't trade that away, with a couple injuries we will be in trouble

But we currently have nothing to offer as we gave away our first pick for this year and it might go we give up a mid for a first round pick which is on traded for a KPF. Yes I know it is not liable to happen but we need another KPF and to get one you usually have to give something be it a player and or a draft pick. So would you trade a mid for a KPF?

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
