Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Not sure how I feel about this... the team is very, very green.  Not as confident as I was yesterday.

Great to see some kids get a run and hopefully it’s a sign that form and effort are being rewarded.

Feel for Lockhart; thought his preseason form was excellent.

Shocked to see Hunt; not that I don’t rate him, just haven’t seen or heard anything about him in months.

Checked in for the zoom call with Simon Goodwin on Tuesday.  From what he said about the kids and the need for speed, I don’t think any of these changes should come as a massive shock.

I do like the fact that we have a lot of flexibility in the team.

In defence we have the usual names of Jetta, May and Lever that will be in the back half the whole time. Rivers I can see would also only play there. Salem Will have a defensive role but is a more re-bound attacking player. Hunt, Jones and Smith can all rotate through there as well as into other roles. Tomlinson, TMac and Fritsch all have experience in defence if required. That gives us a lot of options in the back 50.

With the midfield I always like it when I see any three of Brayshaw, Viney, Oliver, Petracca and Harmes at Gawn's feet at the center bounce. There is also Melksham and Jones that are in attendance at times. Jones less so these days. On the outside with Langdon and Tomlinson on the wings we have a couple there that may spend upwards of 90% TOG. In Fritsch, Bennell, Hunt and possibly even smith we have a few quick players that could fill in out there.

Forwards are the biggest problem but with this team we have plenty of structures we could try. I just hope that the coaches are prepared to ring the changes to look for scoring avenues. We need to be proactive in this way.

Wow we are really pushing the odds with that forward line.

Of course you have to believe that is the way they will line up which seldom happens.

If we accept it in broad terms the the two key forwards are a player who has only once produced his 2018 form and a kid who is playing his first game straight from under 18’s football.
We then have Brayshaw who has seldom been a goal kicker along with Petrecca with the same disease and another kid who has played one game since leaving the under 18’s. we are going to need 6 from Fritsch to be in the hunt.
Still taking out Spargo gives one more competent player in the 22.

We will struggle to win this game.

Really excited to see how Jackson goes at FF. I don’t expect him to kick many goals but I would really like too see what potential he has in that position.

Imagine if our luck finally changed and Jackson and Pickett become stars, Bennell goes on to do what Burgoyne has done at the Hawks.

There is nothing wrong with dreaming Hff. In fact it is probably the only thing that keeps the average Dees supporter sane.

It doesn't actually matter at all but I don't get why we keep naming Melksham as a starting onballer. Do we think we're tricking other teams or someting?

He played there against Richmond and was near BOG for us by half time. He has the tools to play there and would be a useful option in there to develop with his ball use and aggression.

Hibberd's non selection, especially at the expense of a first-gamer in Rivers, is a very bold call but I like it. Mahoney mentioned in the Zoom chat that Rivers had overtaken him.

I was just flicking through the AFL Record and remembered that Hibberd statistically had a very good game in Round 1. In some ways was back to his best in his ability to get the ball, but his delivery into the forward line was atrocious. I know it's been a long time between drinks, but it really shows that stats like metres gained and inside 50 aren't going to impress the coaches.

Forget the Eagles games. We were told an hour before the match the season was cancelled.  Really it should be replayed as  the other 8 games were played under the assumption the season was continuing.

That's pathetic.

Didn't affect the eagles.

I like the injection of pace. More chance of upsetting opposition zones.

Some fairly courageous selections with Rivers, Jackson and Bennell.

I would love someone up forward that can take a mark or three.

Will be interesting to see where Jones, Smith and Hunt play.

We'll be too physical for them and win by 34 points!

No surprises as to Spargo, Bedford or Brown.

I am surprised that OMac has gone but I think we suspect Carlton will go in with a smaller forward line and we can cope without him.

That's the interesting thing. McKay and Casboult are over 200cm and McGovern 191. Maybe we'll use Max in the last line of defence?

We have 4 players who have played 1 game between them this season , 2 first gamers, 2nd gamer &  1 who hasn’t played in 2+ years.. nothing against them but sounds risky.. not sure what the rational is here... May sound old school but 4 inexperienced players at the same time, understand Bennell has played but not in 2years ..

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
