I have no problem with people refraining from buying memberships because it's a difficult financial decision for them. Breaking it down into "two coffees per week" is not a fair way of looking at it - it's one of many weekly expenses and for some people those two coffees need to go towards a bill or another household expense instead.

I do, however, have a bit of a problem with people who have the money and can afford a membership but chose not to buy one because they want to make a statement or something like that.

I accept that doing this (i.e. making a statement by not buying a membership) is important for some people but IMO it is counterproductive and unhelpful.

The club wants us to commit to them but gives no transperency to the day to day goings on,such as injuries etc.Why is it so secretive about injuries e.g avb,smith and salem surely as a paid up member we have a right to know what goes on with the players and their well being.Buying a membership is like buying a car sight unseen

After 50 plus years following the Demons, seeing two shocking GF’s in 88 & 2000, how ironic and MFCSS would it be for us to win in a lock out GF!

For the last few years (and this year no different) I just sign up a week or so before the season starts.

My point is just withholding membership money based on performance is counter productive at best.

I haven't bought a membership this year and will wait 4-5 games to make a decision.
If I like what I'm seeing I'll get one.
If I don't .... I won't.

Living a 7hr round trip away from the city I never get full value from my membership anyway so the corona thing isn't an issue for me.
What is an issue though is spending 7hrs in the car to watch garbage football.
With 3 disappointed kids in the car it makes for a loong forken journey.

It's not only the membership numbers that take the hit.
It's also bums on seats at games.
While watching at home at least if they're playing like spuds I can leave the box and go do something more productive with my time.

My kids early lives have coincided with some of our darkest days
I've taken 'em to that many poor losing games it's not forken funny.
The club has the happy knack of not turning up when we do regardless of who we're playing.
I said to the young bloke one QB game, "What you reckon when the crowd gets loud."
"Yeah, but it's always the other teams" was his reply.
The final against Geelong was the 1st win my 12yr old daughter had seen live.
They are the only 3 Melbourne supporters at their school and cop plenty and now hardly give 2 sheets about football.

You seriously want the club to confide in the public details of injuries, recovery times and illnesses? Why? So the opposition can plan better how to set up against us, who is likely to play and how our players might be hiding injuries?

Spot on - Essentially, to win a flag all aspects of the club must operate properly and I suspect that most members of long standing can point to stuff ups right across all areas of the MFC, from recruitment player selection and management through to the appointment of senior officials, sponsorship and the general administration of the club. Since 1964 there has been a long history of building up hope only to have it shattered and the only way to regain the trust of many supporters is through  success on the field.

Clubs love the jingoists - those modern day Benedict Arnolds -"My country( footy club) right or wrong but above all my country(club) or those supporters smitten by puppy love because they don't have to work overly hard for membership.

Now they don't like criticism and either ignore it, take umbrage or make an efffort to explain it away.  I also think the club has made a number of positive changes but the jury is still out and to stop criticising it is to surrender to mediorcrity. So more power to your arm. Apart from that I enjoy your posts you don't hold your punches.

But following a team is non negotiable and as you said the Geelong win trumps all. 
Appesrs you didn't go to the QB games in 2016, 17 where the Dees outnumbered the Pies and 2018 where it was about 50:50.

You have solved your own point though that if you miss going (and 25% of Dees fans don't go like you) then we will be less vocal.

In fact since 2016-2018 the ratio at homes games has been more Dees.

I don't accept that point as every game vs interstate teams is 95% Dees.

Last year  after Round 7 our crowds dropped off but 2016/18 we were in the top half dozen in crowds and win a majority of games at the G 

Seems as though you have not been lately.

Sniut the jumper wearing again it's your pick and choose example that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Nit bring proud of their team no matter what is not negotiable and again losing and winning are great character traits yo be taught.

A membership ticket is bought and no guarantees are given about success.

But a half empty approach will no doubt be negative and have an effect on attitudes in the learning years.

I am a 50 plus consecutive ticket holder despite living interstate fir the last 27 years!

And have attended up to 7/8 games in seasons recently since Roosy took over, and 2/3 prior each year.

PS My father was not a sportsman or real fan and  gave up during the shocking run during the late 60's and 70's.

I didn't nor my mother so here I am like you craving success but with a different attitude.!

There is some merit in this statement of poor Club management and operational intent and yes, it has been going on for some time in peaks and troughs. Actually, with the way things are heading due to the virus, I think all clubs are going to need memberships to keep the clubs solvent.

Being a member is not just about going to games and the club’s week by week performance, it is also about supporting the club through the bad times as well as the good. Yes, we’ve been bad for decades, but what’s been thrown at us this year is something that we’ve not had to deal with before, and is something that the club has no control over. I’m happy to continue my son’s and my own membership during this time.
