Weid is reminding me a lot of Gawn prior to his break out game against Geelong.  Reads the ball, gets to the rights spot, beats his man... does all of the hard stuff... drops the ball.

In the space of one match, Gawn changed that and hasn’t looked back.  

I’m backing Weid in and thought that for a player playing a long way from his position, he carried himself well today.

I have not seen a frame of the game however we won the game without a recognised Ruckman.

The only down side that I can see is that Adelaide are expected to be nothing wonderful this year.

Even though it is a practise match we have one win no losses.

I will take that as a good result. In the end you cannot do more than win.

Can only agree , take out of this what ever positives we can and work on the negatives. Though we did have a few best 22 out, 

I think kossie  deserves to stay in the 22 simply because the opposition will leave him alone at their peril. His latent talent will scare the pants off back men 

much better to win than lose but it is February and basically just a practice match,  means bigger all in the long term

Having not seen the game, I'm pleased to read mostly positive comments.

As with any pre-season game, I can't help but query how much it means for the season proper but I listened to vandenBerg's interview and he mentioned that we know that it's important for us to start instilling values for the home/away season now, so I'd like to think today was a sign of what we're hoping to show in Round 1.

Love hearing that Lever and Langdon played well.

Seemed that we played a more open forward line in the third quarter compared to the first. Perhaps we just went more direct.

Lot of fumbled handballs going forward. If we can get the skill level up there it would be great.

I noticed O Mac in the last few minutes. Was he on the ground for much of the game?

Weid rucked all game and got 19 disposals. Missed a few marks but a good effort and should be given credit. Also cudos to Chunk who was highly effective and far from finished. Sparrow and Lockhart showed glimpses. Far more positives than negatives.

Game plan:
Still conceded too many easy goals with lack of forward/mid pressure and defenders caught off their man. Our zones clearly weren't tight enough. Can we fix that easily?
Too many forward entries going to Brown and McDonald together.
And not enough run and link.

Positives were far more width in our play using the flanks making sure we retain possession. Much more midfield coverage around the stoppage and got cleaner ball going from the stoppages. Backline were steady with the ball. Forwards created good 2nd and 3rd opportunities for most of the game.

Individuals:
Tracc - super
Oliver ran the ball more especially in the second half
Viney looked to use team mates
Langdon was a refreshing sight - a proper wing runner. Tomlinson solid enough.

Brown - I'm still not convinced, he really doesn't like contact, but it at least an option
Sparrow showed a desire for the contest, ability to spread and some nicer ball use, tick
Vanders got through, looked like Vanders. If he cleans up his skills (will never be his strength) and keeps the tackling
Pickett (obviously) and Jackson (more subtle ways) showed they have something to work with

Backline: Harmes took a long time to work in to it. Lever battled early against weak opposition. Jetta got beat by a player who was just delisted a few times. Oscar was Oscar, the best thing is he can play his role by staying out of the way against the right opponent. Was haapy with Hibbo.

Mids: Overall a nice performance just have to close up those gaps without the ball and working on not all 3 (or 4 with a mobile ruck) hunting the ball.

Forwards: ANB dreadful when near the ball, a fumble machine. Spargo - some promise, if he was a first year kid we'd be raving, at a minimum he's back to being a guy we can use. Kosi - didn't find much of it but should've been used on brilliant sustained runs at least 3 or 4 times.

It’s only the first game but very impressed with Petracca’s effort. My wish is that he bookends this performance in the last game of the season. The flag will be ours.

Good to see Langdon and Tomlinson out there and Brown looks like he could be a decent pickup - not sure why Essendon let him go.

Kossie was great, some of his repeat efforts were fantastic. The tackling pressure inside our 50 is exactly what we've been missing probably since Davey left. Love it. Wasn't sure he'd play seniors straight up but he's too dangerous not to have there. I'd lock him in round 1.

Would like to see them put Jackson in one position and let him develop he was all over the shop today and couldn't get in the game. He started ok early got to good position up forward but couldn't take a mark. Then he was almost unsighted taking backup ruck duties and starting midfield. I'd leave him as a 2nd/3rd tall forward with TMac and Brown and let him develop there. He can look at ruck/midfield duties down the track when he builds a tank (I know today he had ruck duties out of necessity)

and that is the difference between him having a solid game and a great game .He has good hands and gets in good position so I am perplexed as to why he  drops  so many marks ,I have concluded it is just a confidence thing and soon he will just take them .

I would imagine that Weid would have been training all summer with the forwards up until Max went down, maybe with longer stints with the mid group afters Preuss went down. He's being played out of position and not where he has presumably been training for the majority of the pre-season. Give him a break.

Poor delivery into the 50, in the midfield scramble we often had too many contestants in too close, leaving Crows unmarked on the outside and the other was lack of forward pressure and the ability to turn over possession inside 50m. Kicking efficiency was low so there are things to work on but also a lot of positives.

He had a good game, the best thing about the win today is, we won the contested possessions the contested marks, and tackle count and  tackles inside 50, and had 28 scoring shots from 53 inside 50, most of those stats we did very poorly last year. Then we out scored them in the last QTR against the wind, also we used 23 players to their 26, they rested 4 of those players in the first half, and changed 4 player over in the second half, with Jones not playing in the last quarter, it shows that we are fit,I'm telling you, with that confidence the team has, that they are fitter they will win more games just with that knowledge.

Only a practice game so will cool my jets but on my observation from watching 

Petracca - wow shown glimpses of that but certainly not over 4 quarters

Weid - did very well against O'Brien who is no slouch and was good around the ground 

Clarrie- does what he does looked a little less handball focused

Lever - Impressive intercepts and looked much better by foot

Sparrow- like what I saw got his hands on it a bit and will improve, a lot to like about this kid

Brown/Tmac - having 2 targets was good and saw us capable of bringing the ball to ground more although must remember Crows weren't exaexactly  big down back. Tmac certainly showed if he's fit he's going to cause issues in second halves

AVB - stats lie, this bloke is important around the contest and impacting our ability to defend against the fast break

Viney - looked fit and ran the game out well was back to influencing around the stoppages 

Jackson- very raw and a fair way off, but boy does he have some impressive traits, he has a fantastic leap, some mongrel and quick hands for a tall.

Kossie - was very exciting 1st half but they tightened up on him  which whilst limiting him, creates opportunities for others

Lockhart - looked good and the full pre season has helped him

Jones - set up defensive with our forward press and made the most of his opportunities. Looked to be moving well till he copped what looked like a corkie to the shin

Loved the hard run and the ability to find space Langdon showed 

I also liked Tomlinsons game not huge stats but provides run and a link with transition as a marking target

Salem - liked his game used the ball well for first hit out and going to be very important with his delivery inside 50 if he plays higher up the ground 

I think with Max back, Weid moves forward and Fritsch will also provide more class inside 50

Certainly a stark difference in fitness levels compared with being over run by the Tigers and Lions last year

I am curious as to where they will play the weed when gawn is back. I would have him at CHF  with TMAC at FF. I am not sold on Brown. Will the weed be the second ruckman ?

Really impressed with the effort of Lockhart, and Sparrow not too far behind.

Was disappointed  the Kossie show was only a small highlight reel - but heaven help the opposition if he gets more of it.

However, I won't be distraught if we never pick ANB again - a good footballer must be so much more than just an athlete.

5 players that he completely destroyed the confidence of! Ok so he gave away a few frees, but he definitely crushed their confidence. So happy with his performance!

Not enough mentions of Lockhart, Sparrow and especially our leader in the making in Jake Lever who mopped up everything that came his way.

I thought Lockhart, Sparrow and leader in the making Lever were all pretty good today.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but generally if a player is getting that much pill they will look stuffed by the end of the game. Petracca looked like he did it on his ear, just going through the motions.

He's in for a huge year.
