Seeing Vanders, T McDonald and J Smith out there makes me feel happier about our injury list.  Plus Brayshaw and May expected back for game 2. Great result.

Surely there’s no need to play funny buggers with the lineup in some meaningless practice match?

It’s a lot more on the park than this time last year, but that team isn’t giving the top sides sleepless nights

Some on here had Vanders done for the year, if not his career

Spargo? Hasn't he been in either rehab or a moon boot for most of the preseason? I know both games mean nothing, but wouldn't it be better to run him on Friday instead?

Am surprised to see such a strong squad- the build of our best 22 is there, so hopefully we’ll see some good connections.

Great to see AVB, Smith, Tomlinson and Langdon in/back in the red and blue.

Hunt is a bit of a worry if he’s not cracking the preseason squad.  Always been a fan but has looked lost for the last two years.

Are they fit to play ??  Tmcd. Tomlinson. Vandenburg.  Thought they’d all miss and still recovering.

Unleashed: Pickett and Jackson. Let them play about 1/2 game and see how they go.  Don’t expect them to gun it just yet but they are super talented

Hope he gets through:  Joel Smith. Love to see his talent on show in 2020.

Give him a go: James Jordan. Love his delivery and willingness to kick the footy. Hopefully he’ll be in for Hawks practice match.

Who?  Tom Sparrow. Loved his aggression in 2019 in limited game time due to injury.  Tough and solid and hope he gets into the action.

Key players missing: Gawn May Brayshaw

I love a cherry picker.

Look at the forwards around him. Trac, Melksham, Fritsch, T Mac and Vanders... As I said, pretty strong overall.

Some people have no idea wiseblood

I am a bit perplexed about this too. Bedford is the obvious choice for me. But obviously the coaches see something different.

I am more excited for LJ and Kossie!

Burgess talked about rotating players through the squad during the pre-season cup games.

I’d be surprised if Hunt didn’t play in at least 1 of the next 2.

How does this impact the injury list we keep seeing on the site?

I am sure you are acquainted with the second language of the AFL WJ.

The squad is (on paper) a lot stronger than I expected this week. I was expecting TMac, AvB, and a couple of others showing niggles to be given this game off but this could well be a part of the injury management plan in that some may only play a half this week.

I mentioned it in another thread that our 2018 success started with some good pre-season wins. Let’s get back a winning mentality!

my only game for the year, can’t wait!

A meaningless team-sheet for a mostly meaningless game. But Weideman in the centre is curious. Is it possible that they're intending to try some sort of rotation between Weid, Jackson and Brown, with Jackson to get a run through the middle?

My heart rate went up several notches I on reading that team!  My concerns about our growing injury list went down by a similar amount!  Really, really looking forward to Saturday evening now.  C'mon Dees.  2019 was the aberration!!

The weakest area looks to be the backline. If they line up that way there are some serious holes.

Time for Omac to show us if he has improved.

Footy is just around the corner Kiddies!!!!

I like to think the club has learnt from there mistakes and are taken a very curious approach with the players this preseason, just hoping when they come back they are ready to string 20 + games together.

We have heaps of talent so for me no1 priority is team chemistry if we get 20 games out off our top 15 players then skis the limit this year. GO DEES!

With Mitch Brown at full forward? Give me a break

So who would be your replacement be?

What is the problem with Mitch Brown? He played some good games at Essendon and by all reports is training well. You know how a change of club can do wonders. We will see if your criticism comes to fruition,

Watching Hawthorn v Saints and Frost is having a shocker!

Waiting for some of the usual posters to say  it just shows what an amateur club we are, run by people who have no idea,  to pick obviously injured players such as MCDonald, Abv, spargo, smith and Tomlinson.

Hunt and Hore out is interesting.

Can't play them all.

I dare say they'll get a run in the following game while others are managed.

This is the same side that made a prelim. Are you counting the dees out of contention before a ball has been bounced?

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

  • 2025 Player Reviews: # 1 Steven May

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
