  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The people who signed up in March and April are legends. Well done people.

Every member is solid gold for the survival of the club. (appreciate that many are losing their jobs and can't afford to continue)

Very proud of our supporters.

So at this stage we are 10k members down on this time last year.

I know we couldnt have predicted it, but last year was the worst season possible to have a shocker.

Lucky to be where we are tbh

I know we could never in a million years have predicted this happening but we quite literally couldn't afford last year happening the way it did. Make finals and we have 50k members before January. Some here treated last year as an aberration. It may have been. But good clubs just don't let it happen. And now we are feeling it.

That, and to play our only game so far EXACTLY the same way we did all last year.... Bomb long to nobody.

Extremely small sample size, but the only evidence we have is that MFC havent learned a thing.

Like i said, we are lucky to have only suffered a 10k drop in membership.

The drop off is because there are about 30000 rusted on members, the rest wait for results and then get on the bandwagon, if it is rolling forward

In relation to Gawny's letter, the player phone calls to Members, the Club correspondence and now, player-selected free music preferences online, the Club is doing well with regard to the 'rusted-on' Members. Many people are 'chuffed' that they bothered and did so at the personal level. My wife's adoration of Nev has now reached fever-pitch, for example. (He was just her favourite player once.)

I had real trouble trying on line a couple of weeks ago so in hope I phoned the club and got through to membership: so they are there just waiting to hear from you (and you and you and you also)!

Any updates to the tally? I recently purchased four extra armchair memberships in an attempt to assist the club. The reasons are obvious as to why we’ve dropped so far from last year but seeing just how much, it’s still hard to swallow.

there isn't now even any membership link on the mfc home page

It varies from day to day on the main page or not, but it is always at the menu to the top right next to the query icon, under the Jaguar symbol.  Since the AFL run the web page, it is the same for all clubs...pathetic!

Anyhow we have had another 220 people sign up this week, which brings the total to 38,985

When is the cutoff this year? I'm thinking of buying an additional membership to try and get us up to 40k

31 July has been the traditional cut off point for recording the memberships for all the clubs, but each club will then report higher numbers in their annual report i.e. generally up to end Ocotober.

So in the table above you can see both numbers that we have kept track of over the years....

It’s a good question. After our disastrous 2019 season I know quite a few disgruntled supporters who were waiting to see how we went early on before re-signing. Fair to say we didn’t set the world on fire and it’s reflected in our membership numbers. Hopefully we can win a few more games and get some more supporters to jump on the wagon.

I emailed the club and i recieved an automated msg back stating someone from the club will be in contact in 3-5 working days.

Are interstate members still guaranteed a ticket to 1 interstate game e.g game against the Crows on the 5th of August?

If our loss to the Swans costs us a place in the finals ( and it likely will ) then I reckon our 2021 membership could take a nasty whack!

Footy back in Victoria and the ability to attend might mitigate this to some extent but , that is a big unknown at this stage

Possible disaster warning!!

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
