It's only 1 game, but I don't see how he gets drafted. Seems a bit one paced with no extra gears to go to when chasing etc. A few basic skill errors. Positives were, that he seems to get structurally in the right spot, with always looking at helping a team mate out in the defensive set up. Holds a nice width on the fat side wing. Seems to be always jogging or running where a lot of the guys stop to a walk when the ball leaves their area. There's not much X factor or anything about his game. But like I said from the top, this is 1 game. I haven't watched him before.

 

Lets back in JT and crew for the right call on him.

    i think taj is one who will thrive more at afl level, he's a good kick and makes good decisions but at this level a lot of simple kicks and handballs are being missed which disrupts the ball movement and forces it into a contested game, appears to hold his width really well tho and on the mcg could be a real weapon

    Taj was quiet in the second half, but the statisticians must have gone for a pie in that last q. 

    Sheldrick's stats barely moved from the 23 or 25 they said he had at 3QT, and he apparently had 26 for the match, similarly I was fairly certain Taj had 15 at 3QT and then in the leading stats for the game he wasnt' even there.... yet they had another player with 14 as one of the leading players... Not that it makes much of a difference.

    A very fair and accurate assessment on what I saw. Not writing him off as a footballer, but would be surprised if we picked him up this draft given our limited picks.

    I assume he might be similar to the Kobe Farmer position. Won't gather much interest in the draft or father/son selection, get an invite to train on over summer and push for a rookie selection. Has the right attributes to get that position and a year at Casey would certainly help with the development and see what happens from there.

    At this level, Taj plays a solid but unspectacular game of football, accumulating possessions without doing anything that stands out. However, I think on the basis of his year’s work as a regular in his team’s best players at Colts level for East Fremantle and in his state level appearances with WA Under 19s, that he’ll probably take the last spot on our list. 

    The players who impressed me were Angus Sheldrick who is the type of player Goody would like and Jack Williams who has hitherto presented himself as a potential key forward but also took a lot of the ruck work in this game. I’m not sure about the relative strength of the other rucks and he’s not tall enough at 195cm to be a regular ruckman at AFL level but, if he’s around at #17, he’d be worth a long hard look for his versatility as I believe he could play key forward or back. There are others worthy of consideration for #17 as well - Jacob Van Rooyen who didn’t play would be great at that pick. SA midfielder Matt Roberts was slow off the mark but nearly won the game for them in the end. I think he’ll go top 10. And there’s a lot to like about Jase Burgoyne who is a Port Adelaide father/son prospect.

    Where did Kobe end up playing this year? And any idea on how he went?

    I guess the question to ask here is, if his surname was not Woewodin, would anyone be taking any notice of him whatsoever? We've certainly moved beyond the point of getting blokes onto our list because of any perceived loyalty, such that we didn't keep Farmer's son, didn't draft Brett Lovett's son, and we let Billy Stretch go too without playing him much. From the sounds of it, he was only a late inclusion into the WA state team. If he gets drafted, particularly to us, that would be awesome and I totally trust our recruiting team who have performed second to none; however, it probably doesn't look overly likely.

    Captain of his colts team and school, strong form at colts level, solid performer at state level and added to the combine. He wouldn’t have a thread on demonland but I reckon he’s played well enough that every team has at least had a good look. I like the idea that worst case scenario is he gets to come over for a train on period. Wouldn’t be surprised if he was drafted even if he’s not a standout tho, teams like to take father sons with great work ethic.

    Just that changing of gears wasn’t there for me today. By that I mean, the intent to tackle when within 2 to 5 metres of an opponent. He seemed to keep the one pace. I want to see the intent, that competitive edge to run a player down. 
     

    Another contest where he wasn’t quite running back with the flight as such, but kinda was. He could of gone a bit harder. It wasn’t a moment of crapping himself or anything bad like that. It just wasn’t that extra 5% effort to really make the contest harder for his opponent, and to obviously win the ball himself. 
     

    Like my previous post stated after the game, there were a few positives also. But the type of negatives that he possessed today is leaning me towards not taking him in the draft. 
     

    Hopefully he’s not always like that. You never know what niggles or injuries a player is taking into a game.

    Looks like he played a few games for Swan Districts, not sure if he was injured or playing lower in the games he missed

    I think he has always been borderline late pick or rookie pick, I don't think that will change.

    Its probably not wise to judge on one game. WA Talent Manager Adam Jones in an Age article today described Woewodin as a " great free hit" for the Dees.

    " He's not the quickest player, buy he's clean, skilful on both sides and can play multiple roles."

    Woey is well regarded in Talent circles.  He has improved materially this year and often late developers are looked upon favourably.

    Another player he says has improved well is Jason Cripps who came back this season from an ACL and played well despite no pre season and shin splints in his return from the ACL.  As a 199cm ruckman he has a fantastic skill set and can play ruck/forward.

    A somewhat lowkey game from the Melbourne father-son prospect, Woewodin started well in the midfield, winning a bit of ball early but tapered off towards the end of the game. What Woewodin did extremely well all game was present as a marking target around the ground, pushing up near the defensive 50 to be an outlet kick for his teammates, then use it well, generally looking to move the ball inboard. Woewodin got consistent penetration behind hjis kicks even if they weren’t always accurate, making them hard to intercept for defenders.

    I think you’re confusing the player with someone else. Jason Cripps played for St Kilda around the turn of the century.

    The ruckman is Joshua Cripps and he’s not only a teammate of Woewodin, he has a famous brother, Patrick.

    Get where you're coming from, but the other factor is the potential discount we may get as far as draft picks goes which may be especially important this in the wash up as we may have slim pickings some what to work with.

    Club has been speaking to him, which doesn't guarantee he gets picked, but I would guess he has a decent chance.

    Yes I think these comments sum up his game very well. He’s still a late draft/rookie father-son option for me.  I’d be pushing to trade out our pick 47 for a future 2022 third rounder and then draft Woey jnr.as our 3rd draft addition.  He has shown the ability and we can afford time to develop him under the great Choco’s development program.

    Just said on the news he ran the fastest 20m in the WA draft combine

      As the focus of the AFL moves exclusively to South Australia for Gather Round, the question is raised as to what are we going to get from the  Melbourne Football Club this weekend? Will it be a repeat of the slop fest of the last three weeks that have seen the team score a measly 174 points and concede 310 or will a return to the City of Churches and the scene where they performed at their best in 2024 act as a wakeup call and bring them out of their early season reverie?  Or will the sleepy Dees treat their fans to a reenactment of their lazy effort from the first Gather Round of two years ago when they allowed the Bombers to trample all over them on a soggy and wet Adelaide Oval? And they repeated that sort of effort later in the season when they played Essendon at the MCG.

In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide.       There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

      I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

      Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season.
