Wells 11 5,502 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Thought the boys tried hard tbh... agree with a poster further back that said we did well for a bottom 4 team trying to make a statement. Hard to accept but that really IS the truth of where we’re at. We’re not a good team out of form. The player that concerned me the most, and I never thought I’d say this, was Oliver. His disposals used to be like knives, cutting the opposition to threads. Now he’s turning it over or choosing dumb options.... looks a different player. 3 Quote
John Demonic 5,988 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) Just finished watching the game on delay. And let out an audible "[censored] Steven May" at the conclusion of the match for coming back unfit. As a result of a thought about how dysfunctional our forward line is without Hogan. I know there are many problems, but this one just seems like the domino pushing over the others. Edited April 24, 2019 by John Demonic 3 Quote
beelzebub 23,392 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 A better than expected result for mine. I had us losing by a 100. Hardly worth the pixels commenting on this any more. The FD is obviously clueless. They have to be otherwise signs of change would appear and we'd be improving. We aren't. I see and hear a lot of hurt as many deal with the grieving process. Yes we've killed another season. No one wants to listen. We're a pitiful laughing stock again. Take a bow MFC. It's not the players in the main. Think about that. Some don't want to. Doesn't fit their narrative. They'd have to admit they have this all wrong. So....those that thought we'd still play finals, how that going for you? Those that couldn't see our season was f#@;d three games in, how's your September shaping ? The legacy of the build...is dead. 1 Quote

Absolute indictment on every individual involved. Goodwin and co. brought this upon themselves. This could be worse than the Neeld years by the end of 2019. I really hope not, but any positivity looks a million miles away. No they didn't bring it oin themselves, they brought it upon us,. They will move on to whatever gravy train awaits them. It is us, the long suffering supporters are left shattered. Edited April 24, 2019 by Mydee typo 1 Quote

He sacked off Watts, who Roos had got the best out of. He sacked off Hogan, who was known as Roos’ pet. He got rid of all our depth in favour of C.Wagner, Lockhart, a few late picks. lets look at the players that we had contributions from over the 2017/2018 seasons and look who has departed:- hogan watts kent tyson bugg pederson vince look at those names. All made contributions over that period. I said at the start of the year tht I was concerned with the 7 list changes we made in the off season. It’s too many and we have not bought any real talent into the side. No wonder we have gone backwards. Roos and PJ made a massive contribution to restoring a club culture, that seems to have eroded in the space of 5 months. Welcome to ground zero. Again! I loves posts like these. Let's take a look, shall we? Hogan wanted the opportunity to go home. Not much you can do there. Last night would have seen Watts go missing for large chunks of the game. He did that for years and he has done it for Port. Plus he left in 2017, not 2018. Kent has played one good game all year. Tyson is in the reserves for North. Bugg couldn't get a game. Neither could Pedersen. It was time for Bernie to retire, much like Lewis and potentially Jones at the end of the year. Losing those guys has nothing to do with how we are playing now. Apart from Vince and Tyson (who didn't do much), none of the above played in our finals. They didn't factor in. Pur confidence is shot, our depth is being tested by a large amount of injuries and we have a horribly dysfunctional forward line. We have a little mountain to climb, but it has little to do with the players you mentioned. Even if they were still on the list, only possibly Hogan would have helped last night. 13 2 Quote

Fritsch is one of very few who doesnt rush. Id put him in the midfield, as far as im concerned he is one of our top 3 best players. Our side is embarrassing. Goody should drop Oliver, Petracca and Gus and send them to play VFL, and learn that the big scary game of footy isnt all that scary. You can hold on to the ball and find the best option, you arent going to die with the ball in your hand so you dont have to rush everything. They have been trained to operate under a first give principle where you don’t second guess your actions just go with your first instinct/option, it’s how they crate the speed of play we were know for last year. So to hold onto the ball more they would need to train away the last few years of habit. Quote
Deefender 254 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 We should give Bull Smith a run at centre half forward. Quote
—coach— 3,496 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Did everyone notice that the Richmond guys stood arms around each other during the ANZAC ceremony and we stood apart from each other? Contrast that to the Melbourne v Geel final last year, where the opposite took place. Is this a sign of a bigger issue at play than purely game style, structures etc? 4 Quote

Lucifers Hero 40,716 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 (edited) There are simple reasons why we can't connect going i50 - in the last two years we have let go (for good reason) most of our best field kicks to i50 in Watts and Hogan (when he played upfield) and to some extent Kent. Complemented by Hannan and Fritsch we were getting enough qulaity delivery to offset the butchering and blind bombs from our midfielders. By sheer weight of i50 numbers we scored often enough to win. - Fritsch is no longer the link-up player we lauded him for (correctly) as the Watts replacement but he is now languishing in defence. - When Hogan played fwd he would mark or bring the ball to ground (then sulk) giving us a chance at ground level. Our problem was not letting players go. It is the cumulative effect of all of them going/not being played in the fwd half without their skills being replaced. So our i50 are now appalling in quantity and quality, our forwards aren't experienced enough against good defenders and there is no one to create a contest in the air. Of course their are other i50 connect problems but I believe they start from the above. Edited April 24, 2019 by Lucifer's Hero 2 Quote

Fritsch us being played out of position by necessity because of injuries. He is the most natural wingman on our list and we need to play him there for the rest of the season . No wonder his confidence is shot he does not have the build to play back. In regards to our I50, the delivery is diabolical often because there is nobody there unless it's a centre bounce. They all press so far up the ground and when we win it the opposition simply outrun us, chase and we kick under pressure usually straight to an opponent. This comes down to fitness and game plan , both of which are downright disgraceful which is an indictment on both the players and the coaching staff. 2 Quote

dpositive 1,838 Posted April 24, 2019 Posted April 24, 2019 Snot often I agree with the Channel 7 commentators but I do on one thing it's confidence. Our players start ok but when you receive no protection when straggled high, low or in the back, when you give the ball away because of a similar indiscretion by a teammate to the opposition. When the run of play is disrupted by an interference by the umpire a desperation to dispose of the ball takes over. Many efforts you make to participate, to take the ball or tackle an opponent are penalised so you don't or you act in an unbalanced and awkward fashion. When commentators constantly say free kicks are soft or maybe there, or when supporting a decision such as Tom holding Lynch while ignoring the same treatment to any of our players in our forward line I despair. our players frustration is obvious. We must have discussion with the umpires about our poor structures, style or techniques which is not only failing to be rewarded but is penalising our players when compared to our opposition. We will only improve when we have a return of confidence. Quote

Ever since he has come back into the side hes almost been our best defender along with Frost and Salem. Cant wait to see how he develops. He has been a pleasant surprise.
