Yeah Intermittant Fasting is great for people trying to stay lea or lose weight, not sure it's the right strategy for professional footballers. Too much calorie restriction.

Where's the guidance from the club dietitian while he's messing around with fad eating routines? This is actually concerning...

Stop it Jack.

You're a professional footballer.  Eat like one.

Here we go. People making negative comments on something they know absolutely nothing about.

I think you’ll find it was originally pushed by the clubs dietician/nutriotionist for the whole playing group, and then Viney decided he had noticed the benefits to the point that he continued doing it off his own bat, with their consultation.

Any concerns would be coming from a position of ignorance.

But they hook onto fad eating routines like paleo etc. where do you get your guidance from? I think dietitians vary too much and have such ridiculous eating plans.

Looking forward to hearing from the resident dietitians on here who earn a good living in tailoring elite athletes diets to maximise performance. Over to you...

I'd suggest the club dietitians have been central to JV's approach to his diet.

Brace yourselves, the armchair high performance dieticians are coming

A lot of the world's top athletes eat this way, there is nothing wrong with this  approach to eating and it certainly won't affect your performance in a negative way.

Obviously his carrying weight on his feet  was a factor in his  injury.  If it keeps him on the field and the club dietitians support him who cares.

You don't need to be a dietician to know his form has been poor/average this season.

Let's see how it pans out for him but a previous club captain changed his diet and was delisted a couple of seasons back.

Probably no link at all, just coincidence.

Hope to see Jack back in form this afternoon...

That will be the rationale

less weight carried through the feet

Wife I have been doing this for a few months now.  First two days are hard, everyday after that is easy.  Whilst we’re certainly not professional athletes, I’ve only felt benefits so far with no noticeable lack of energy.

Jack seems a lovely guy (unless you are playing against him) but maybe not the brightest: perhaps he misheard “we would like you to be fast” as “we would like you to fast”???

Not so concerned with where he's at right now, but why has he gone from carb loading to 5/2 (both which didn't work for him) to 8/16 all while under the watch of the club?

Not sure, haven’t read the article, just going off what I know.

I'm pretty sure the fact he spent most of the pre-season on crutches and in the rehab group is more a factor on his form than his "fad" diet.

The human body isn't designed to have 3 meals every day. Just like if you exercise the same muscles the same way every day you wont get the proper benefit for it. You need to mix up your diet as well. There is also clear measurable benefits from fasting particularly with your blood cells.

Covid prevented many Demons fans from legally witnessing the victorious 2021 AFL Grand Final cup performance between the Demons and the Bulldogs, but we all grin when remembering those magnificent seven third quarter goals.
