Do you think players should be able to express themselves and wear whatever they want as they arrive to the ground or should they be forced to wear club attire?

This obviously follows the trend of American sport stars which many of today's players idolise.

I have no problem with the ‘Glitz & Glamour’ of US sports as that’s what they do over there and good luck to them. Their 4 major sports have a massive world wide following regardless.

My preference is the European Football model of players arriving in a team bus and club attire.

Oh god... has the AFL really come down to this as entertainment?

No from me.  I like to see the team rock up in club colours when representing the club.  Arrival at games is part of that.  And I would rather players focus on the game than their wardrobe and reactions to it.  Talk about giving the 'social media' more fodder to work with.  Trolls will have a field day.

Not surprised Dangerfield said 'Yes'.  He would say it is all about drawing a younger audience to the game ala the fan-fare of AFLX.  For mine, there is enough fanfare in AFL already:  after goals, half time etc.  But then I'm not in their 'target market' group.

Two points-

It’s hard enough to get good sponsors, we should look after them esp. on higher profile games 

secondly, as an employer, I notice casual Friday extends beyond the dress sense to attitude. I’d like to think the players mindset focusses on game day starting from getting dressed.

Why dont we just rename the league to the NBA?  Sick of this American garbage taking over our game.

I couldn’t give a flying hootenanny what the frig they wear to and from games as long as they bloody give everything game day.

I agree strongly with both these points. In particular, the first one. If players can wear whatever they like, not only does it reduce the sponsors' exposure by their branding not being visible, but it will quickly become an opportunity for "ambush marketing" which will make it even harder to get and retain sponsors.

I played soccer for years at not a high level and even there we always had to arrive in club gear or pants/shirt.  its about team unity, presenting as a professional unit.

the players run the show in the NBA and I have no idea why anyone would want to copy that ego fest.

  1.    The club that pays you  a handsome salary and can give you a privileged life style because of the talent you have.

  2.    The supporters that adore you and purchase merchandise that helps the finances of the club.

  3.    The Sponsorship it creates the image and unity it brings.

  4.     Outside your time wear what you like and on game day play the part.

You could argue that the same applies to our great sport...

i despise this Americanization of our game. The image of Rance entering the AFLX on his skate board looking like a 2 bit pimp made me want to puke.

Funny thing is I never knew what a player rolled up to the game wearing.

If you asked me what they wore I wouldn't have been able to tell you.

I'm not at all interested until they are out on the ground playing the game.

I guess I'm just part of the old breed who just wants to see a good game of footy and my team win.

Remember, the secret to success lies in making the game about anythng but the game.

Dangerfield is a certified DH. I hope our players don’t even give this a second thought, I’d imagine having your team clothing ready to go on the morning of game day is one less thing to worry about.

Once again Dangerfield is thinking about Dangerfield.

ok this is my opinion here and don't shoot me down:

The AFL even changed the name from the AFL 'Draft' to the AFL 'combine'. A direct copy from nba. Now they are copying the NBA with free agency and mid season trading. Now i think these changes are good but why do we always have to be a few years behind the nba. mid-season trading for example should've happened years ago. 

Personally, I like it when the AFL change things up. Grand final day is so fricking boring with the usual pre-match entertainment of some past their prime band followed by a bunch of oldies in old cars waving to the crowd. Can't we change it up for once!!

They can wear whatever they want, I couldn’t care less.  What I do object to is the catwalk where they parade their wealth like its as important as the match.  It’s boastful, garish and arrogant.

I don’t think it’s a case of being old fashioned, it just makes sense, it looks professional. Most players will rock up in trackies and a hoodie looking like hood rats.

Jesus christ god no! We are not American's and still have no idea with the fascination pf trying to copy then at all cost.

I play country footy and its an honour to were my club polo each Saturday before and after a game.

Its no surprise Flogerfield is wanting this to go ahead. Makes me despise him even more the [censored].

It should be mandatory for our players to dress up like this bloke, pre and post game.
