Injury List - Season 2019

Anyone who thinks the injury list of 2019 is just down to bad luck is absolutely kidding themselves.  There may be an excuse for Melksham (game in balance - 3 injured), but the amount of times an injured player has been put back on the park when the game was insignificant and/or the outcome was essentially concluded...is mind-blowing.

The overt examples that make one head-scratch, surely puts in doubt decisions made regarding other players on the list.

The Joel Smith fiasco is obviously a poor one and the optics are shocking. But who are the other examples that you are referring to (where you can positively confirm that a player was hurt during play, pulled off the ground and assessed, put back on the park and made the injury worse) in 2019?

Maybe I haven't been paying close enough attention. Or maybe a few here are speculating a little too much.

TGR you have some credence in your argument but please list at least "6/8 overt examples" otherwise you are grossly exaggerating.

l will start off and name Joel Smith JLT 2 now it's over to you.......

PS  No and spate  of injuries and sending back on the field threatening an existing one are 2 different issues!

And of course the elephant/s  in the room are the 15 players who had pre-season surgeries!

IIRC after Hogan broke his collarbone he was back within a couple of weeks. Whack a surgical steel plate over the bone and boom, as good as new.

4-6 means 4 - never playing again, so I guess that's inclusive of 6-8. Seriously though that's good news, anything that's still 8 or more over the next few weeks is probably getting to the shut them down for the season range.

Hogan was excellent first up then pretty awful for a few weeks IIRC.

Hibberd could be back for the Crows game but just as easily could be given until after the bye.

We are starting to get some players back or near back from injuries and IF we can win 2 out of next 4 which will be tough we hopefully turn after bye with close to full list barring further injuries. We then can come home with a rush and come close to the 8. If we do not make it I can assume no opposition will be keen to be playing us.

58er, one overt example is enough in my book.  Joel Smith's was pathetic, in a JLT when we had fit guys on the bench.  Sports science with loading minutes has gone mad.

Off the top of my head....

Steven May - Groin.  Came off.  Got assessed.  Went back on when the game was done and dusted.  Little wonder he will miss months, not weeks.  But I guess we can rest easy trying to blame the 'way he presented'.

Viney - AC courtesy of Stack.  Got assessed as a partial tear.  Came back on when game was well and truly over.

Melksham - Foot, but I am happy to give them a GOAJC due to the circumstances.

 

 

Usually, us on the outside can only see a hint of what is going on.  Might be lucky to find maybe 1 per year where the decision makers made a calculated risk.  We have had a series of dumb decisions this year in particular.

Has it been conclusively proven that J Smith's injury was made worse by going back on? Initially that seemed to be correct, but as Saty in the training thread for today (14/5) has referred to J Smith having OP,  I now wonder if that is necessarily the case. I admit I don't know what causes OP but I'm also not sure that being asked to continue playing with a sore groin would make it worse.

DV that may be so but it seems to have taken a long time fir the OP to be diagnosed and now is the injury Joel is fighting.

I think we may have to wait fir the book by Misso or Todd or Maxie to find out. Surely a Medici in Oz somewhere can enlighten us with some knowledge of the risk of deteriorating or worsening an injury with exertion or no rest afterwards.

To be fair our medicos have done well in the Roos early Goody era but think they have suffered this year and are under extreme pressure now due to some suspect times of recovery and a couple of shockers that gave string out indeterminedly  plus the programs for all the surgical 15 and limited pre season training sessions due to late 2018 and extra leave under AFL tules around Christmas.

I reckon we are  about up with all other teams fitness now and our last 2 fourth quarters has enabled to get the points.

Dont forget we had a handful of more scoring shots and plenty I50 entries to assist.

I met Marty at the Family Day before the season started. What a personable young man he is, and a credit to his parents. I had a good feeling about him from the start. Glad to see him doing so well now after a shaky beginning. I liked the way he kept his cool and didn't over celebrate his first ever goal. Unlike the Gold Coast players who whooped and hollered over their last goal of the match as though the game was over and won. Love Marty.

Fabulous to hear DG.   I think we are gradually building a very tight nit unit down at Demon HQ.  In fact, injuries aside, i would say it's pretty much upon us (as a club) as we speak.  Momentum (belief / confidence / enjoyment of the game) is growing before our eyes since the match against the Hawks.

I have a funny feeling that IF, and it's a very big IF, we can get our act together with more connection up forward we will go very close out west on Friday evening and might even snag three in a row!

I get your point and don't argue with any of it, however I asked for examples from 2019. Not the last 5 years.

 I think the last 5 years is relevant considering all of these instances of poor injury management have been overseen by Misson and his team. It's a long history of irresponsibility and it is now starting to reek.
