How Salem didn’t get a free for tunneling is beyond me. Actually it’s not, because the 3 umpires last night were incompetent and cowards.

It's called blatant cheating Jaded.  See the "Umps hate Melbourne" thread.

Absolutely.  Eagles player made no attempt at the footy.  He took out Salem’s legs and hips.  Landing Salem on his back and head.

Ump favoured the eagles in the last quarter and it impacted the result.  7-0 free kicks in eagles favour in the 1st twenty minutes in the last qtr.  Cripps THROW to Sheed to kick a goal was absolutely a critical umpire ERROR.

sounds like everyone got thru vfl with no more concerns?

theoretically it could be...

Still amazed at Smith’s groin injury. Don’t think I’ve ever heard of someone missing a season with a groin injury which is likely in Smith’s case.

Couldn't agree more Nelo, let"s hope at season end the club gets the right people in to prevent such thing ever happening again?

Players get injured, but for it to drag on like in Smith"s case makes your wonder what the hell the are doing, or more to the what the club is not doing?

It is OP, so yes it can be a season.

KK is a joke, right? 8 weeks now. FMD!

Come on Martin. its concussion related. That issue seriously affects and can in some cases really ruin lives.  Stkilda are no better with McCartin. We should never have picked him up thats the error ...not how many weeks his out for. Has to be delisted. I say put him on the long term injury list  in time for the mid season draft...at least we get back an active player on our list.

I suppose if misso had come out after utterly mismanaging him in that JLT game and said, "Jeez its a bad injury...looks like season over" the supporters may have burnt down the club!  Not a good look when memberships are so important. Instead of that we've had the slow drip " nothing to see here" story.

clubs taking 0 chances these days. even one symptom such as night sweats or maybe just some forgetfulness and the club will define it as a concussion symptom.

this

and sadly probably retired / delisted at the end of the year too...disastrous recruiting

When does Misso give his weekly update? Really interested to see what the time-frame is on May. He was 2-3 weeks after the Hawks game, which means he should theoretically be either available this week or back against the Crows...

There’s a training session from 1pm today according to the website. We might get an update today.

Is 3-5 the new 4-6???

It sure as hell looks that way, we must not be paying our fitness staff very well.

Judging by their record in the last 18 months, we would have to have the worst injury to games missed ratio in the comp.

IF things go to plan after the bye we will have a lovely range to select from.

Officially the longest injury list, at 15, with only a couple of rivals at 13.

We've also already used 34 different players, which is a number typical for the end of a season, not slightly before halfway.

Start by adding Vandenberg, Lever, Smith and Hannan, who are likely inclusions when fit and haven't yet played a senior game this season, and we're up to 38. Let's imagine that Kennedy-Harris and Maynard get at least a dip at the last-chance saloon. That takes us to 40.

Nietschke and Walker (what does 'indefinite' really mean?) are injured for the season, leaving only teenagers Chandler, Bradtke, Bedford and Jordan available for a season-debut.

So, Casey-watchers, of those 4, how many might get an AFL level game?

Throw in the possibility of a mid-season draftee who, if drafted, would be likely to play given the selection would lean towards immediate need. 41 + the four teenager possibilities.

If there's any comfort, Richmond made it to 42 players used in 2016 on their way to just 8 wins and rubbish percentage, before winning the 2017 premiership. So perhaps 'testing the depth' and a chance to examine what you've got is a secret advantage. Hee hee ho ha ugh.

Has anybody actually set eyes on KK?   Is he an illusion??

GC obviously though KK's career was over due to concussion, made no effort to keep him and traded as a steak knife. Too bad the steak is a bit of a dud too.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
