Post game when the players on the ground and Goody was congratulating the players. He gave Hibberd a hug and after, Hibbo turned around with 2 fingers up, and you can see him say “two more”.

When exactly was the torp, I keep missing it on the replay?

A couple of minutes into the first quarter. They kicked a point and Frost kicked the ball almost to the centre circle and after a couple of handballs the ball landed in Hannan’s hands who kicked it to Tom Mc D. Goal!

End to end in 20 seconds - Magic!

Jordan Lewis attack on the ball against 2 Whorethorn opponents in the 1st Quarter.

That was September Football right there...

Maxy's fantastic mark in defence at the end. I was a bit worried for his wrist upon his landing though.

Hibberd's chase preventing a Hawk goal. If his hamstrings have been a problem they are not now.

Oliver's chase to earn a holding the ball decision.

Viney's weaving and brute strength to twist andwork his way through a congested pack to deliver a great pass to Brayshaw. What a game from this relentless competitor.

Brayshaw's fantastic mark in a pack. Pure courage personified.

Melksham's absolutely effortless left foot snap from over 50 metres to allow us some breathing space. He does this often, He is a very powerful kick.

Spargo's football brain and clever, creative play. He is so cool.

Watching all those pre bounce smiles from the arrogant Hawks players disappear as the game progressed. You could almost hear them saying 'This mob is a pushover'.

It must be great for Viney and Vandenberg to get real reward from all the rehab they did for most of the season. Those two and Jonesy must be feeling so proud at the moment. May they become even prouder still.

Pretty comprehensive list. Loved them all.

Also really loved:

  • The beautifully weighted kick from Hannan to TMac to set up the first goal. They were playing an extra defender and had three set up directly in front of TMac, Not one even touched him, let alone a big spoil attempt
  •  The beautifully weighted kick from Trac to TMac to set up a goal in the last quarter. Again defenders set up in front of Tmac and trac got it over the top of the screen
  • Good kicking is good football

Maybe  Gunston knew it was Jack moving in on him and he couldn't get his shot f or goal quick enough. Lucky he was wearing brown shorts.

Yes - Viney - last guy you'd pick to be hit by.

I'm glad someone else mentioned this. I loved this moment as well. Says so much about the club at the moment, and how we know exactly where we are headed, not just now, but in the future. Fearless, positive stuff.

I also loved Viney's work in getting the kick to Gus for a goal. We really needed that, and the group I was in at M54 went ballistic!

Thanks I will go and check it out.

We have the highest attendance of any finalist on both weekends. Who said the Dees couldn't draw a crowd?

Take note, AFL. The football cocoon now breaks free with 90000 supporters in tow, so we'd better get at least 4 Friday night matches at the 'G in 2019 because otherwise, you will be aiding and abetting favouritisms.

If I've got this right (and someone will correct me if necessary) winning the semi-final has lifted us up a spot and into the top 4. And every time we go up a spot on the ladder Adelaide's pick received from the trade of Jake Lever gets downgraded by a spot. If that's right, it's just a bonus highlight. But a very nice one.

I always liked him. Even when he was at the bombers.

I loved the fact that the crowd was 60-40 our way. How did that happen?

I loved the fact that the crowd was 70-30 our way v the cats the week before.

Those two clubs are way bigger than us on the membership scale.

It just goes to show what a few decent wins can do to drag all those Melb supporters out of the woodwork.

Draft positions are based on where we finish home and away season. Finals have no bearing.

Western Bulldogs were stiff to get pick 19 in the 2016 draft then…

It’s definitely the torp for mine.

Loved the tweet (Titus, I think) who confirmed Frosty will be kicking goals from full back next year with the extension of the goal square.

I loved Oliver's throw to Brayshaw leading to Melbourne's first goal in the final quarter!!

Free kick poos & wees?  Not on this occasion; they've been to the well too many times!!!

Someone needs to tell Whispering Jack that he's been wasting his time updating the draft order after each final in the Draft, Trade and Cheese Board section.

Unless of course, WJ has been right all along.

Big fight in the MCC members M45 in the first quarter. Security guards (overseas lads) just stood there until 4 police came charging down. Massive man (Hawthorn supporter) escorted out with such a wild look in his eyes. Melbourne chap allowed to stay. If a member, will have a decent ban, however, if a guest I wouldn't want to be the member who bought him in.

I couldn't see the actual fight but I saw the big guy get escorted out. Plenty of other fans yelling abuse at him on his way out so obviously he did something which plenty of people were annoyed at. He looked like he'd had about 30 beers pre-game...

The chant at the end was ‘Jonesy’ not ‘Melbourne’... jus sayin...

The MCC chanted Jonesy, the other parts of the ground chanted Melbourne and it ended up sounding less harmonious than it could have been...

Anyone notice Olivers left handed bounce as well in this passage of play? He is a genuine talent

1st quarter, with 15 mins and 16 secs to go (15:16)...enjoy!

It’s a general comment but our chasing and pressure in general has been immense. Oliver’s chase after being fended off, Viney chasing to keep the pressure on Gunston, Melksham staying in the contest which lead to the goal, those are just a few of examples where the players stayed with their man to keep the pressure on and force errors or tackle them.

In the past we would’ve given up on those moments.

I just thought of another positive from our win against Hawthorn. By making the Elimination finals and thanks to the fixturing, either Collingwood or Richmond will be out of the premiership race BEFORE us. Isn't that a glorious feeling? For just for over half a day at least, we will in the top three. Let's hope by Saturday evening, we can be top two looking to be number ONE! Go the mighty Demons!!!!!!

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
