One of my favourite ever recruits. Came here, embraced the club and played his best year winning the B&F.

Just what we needed at the right time. And one of the few characters left in the game.

Hopefully the future is full of little Bernies and Bernadettes !! ;)

He was the first trade for a long time to make an immediate and permanent impact on the team. He came to us as a bit of a party guy, but nuckled down and became a leader. One of my favourites, I’m gutted for him that he’s missed out on playing finals with us.

Best of luck Bernie, I hope you know you’ll always have a home at the Dees.

One of my favourite players since he joined the club. It made it hard for me to be critical of him in his final year. I really hope he can play one more game, he deserves it.

Hope he gets a goodbye game and win in the VFL grannie. You’ve been terrific Bern.

Probably the only bloke in 160 years to shear a sheep at the G

Came to us when we were a rabble and nobody wanted us. Thanks for your services Bernie, wise decision also. Got the most out of himself.

Couldn’t have said it better myself SFebes.

Interesting case Bernie.

Didnt want to be traded, and definitely didn’t want to come to us, but as soon as he walked through our doors he embraced the club and played with genuine passion.

His career was fading away in adelaide - to the extent that he was told they were going to cut him at the end of the next season if he didn’t leave.  He then found a new level of intensity and consistency with us that he’d never had to that point.  He and Daniel Cross were godsends in 2014.

Announced just then - Heard via SEN. Will look to get back this year if we go deep, but looks to be then end after...

Vince to retire at season's end

An absolute Champion who is loved by both clubs he played for and the public in general. My favourite was his job on Danger in hi first game against Adelaide at Adelaide Oval.

Fantastic pick up and gave his all. Awesome to watch especially in his B&F year.

As many have said, a key driver behind our transformation from basket case to legit contender

My 14 year old daughter has had Bernie's number on her back for 3 years, my niece named her pooch after the great Bernie Vince, hopefully will stay at the Demons in a coaching role

Lads lad and very good player. Sort of bloke you'd love to have around your club. Hope he stays on board in some capacity

“One of your favourite” - in the esteemed company of Heretier Lumumba, Chris Heffernan and Mitch Clark, right?

THank you BV. Was glad when he joined the dees. Perhaps the first decent signing in years. Was the start of what we have now. Hats ? off to you Bernie!

First - love the quote from Norm Smith on the banner behind Bernie as he spoke. That's the heart of this great club that I follow.

Second - for Bernie, I love the type of player he is. Tough, hard, natural footballer who proudly wears the colours. Once he crosses the white line his body is on the line. Although not a huge bloke, knows how to use his body to make a physical impact. Mostly, I love the way he stands up for his team mates and flies the flag. His work on Dangerfield was immense. And although it faded a bit this year, at his best he was a bloody good footballer.

He came to the club when it was a basket case. He knuckled down, trained hard, set an example and became a non-positional leader, an influence for the new recruits to see how an AFL footballer should approach his craft. We owe a debt to people like him and Crossy.

Third - I also love the kind of person he is. Once the game is over, he shakes hands, smiles and shares a beer with the whosoever - maybe even the person he flattened during the game. Hodge from Hawthorn is the same. Family man, dedicated, humble and genuine, great with all the off field stuff that we hear so little about .

People like this make clubs great places. I hope they find a role for him because there could be a huge hole without him.

He deserves a lot of credit for this clubs recent success. He came across because Roos was going to be coach and saw some hope and opportunity for growth. There aren't many players who are playing close to their peak that would do that. I think he's had a huge impact on the young playing group. The way he attacks every contest (bar a few high ones) is exactly the type of player you want influencing everyone.

I've always enjoyed Bern's honesty and professionalism in front of the media. He will be missed.

I don't think he will take up a role at the club as he has a real estate career/business waiting for him.

Found this - is a pretty good read.

A Brief History of Bernie Vince

Quote

In Year 11, I got a cricket scholarship to Prince Alfred College in Adelaide. Some stars have played there—obviously the Chappell brothers and others like Greg Blewett and Rick Darling. In my final year I got the most wickets and the most runs. I bowled pace and thought it was quick at the time, but it really wasn’t. I started opening the batting, then I batted at No.3.

Nothing like talent, is there!

Correct, unless they find a part time role that suits him, a la Robbo, use his off field personality

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
