Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Is 2a at the top? I have sat at all 3 levels at tbe punt road end. The middle one is the best. The very top is the one i dislike

2A is actually the third level, in the open in front of the corporate boxes - they call them level 3.  Level 2 is squeezed in underneath, it's under cover elevated and close to the action but I don't like it because it gives a "letter box" view with the roof quite low - and reserved seating

Ah yes. I don't like being under the overhang either.

I remember going to the 2000 GF and thinking i had a great seat. Go to my seat at the bottom of the old ponsford stand and i could almost touch the concrete overhang above me. Uggh.

Was a bad start to a very bad day. Wedged in under a million tones of concrete surround by bombers' fans and feeling completely claustrophobic. Double uggh.

The question was answered partially by Age writer Michael Gleeson before that game in The questions the Demons need to answer where he wrote about the alternate AFL ladder:

It is the ladder that says what would happen if the team that lost the close games won them instead. So what would happen this year if the teams that lost games by 10 points or less won them?

“The answer? Melbourne would be two games clear on top of the ladder.”

An update as posted in the post-match. Adds quite a different complexion and demonstrates together with our KPI statistical dominance and sub-60 game experience of almost all of our prime movers why Goody doesn't give a fug about the fugazi.

Melbourne       18        3

Richmond       15        6

Collingwood   14        7

Geelong           13        8

West Coast      13        8

Port Adelaide  13        8

Essendon         13        8

GWS               12        8

Out of interest who do the Giants usually rebound through. In the case of Sydney it was Aliir whereas against the Eagles it is Mc Govern who before being moved forward was manned by Melksham.

Lobb is quite important to them in that strong down the line marking set up. Richmond has showed that a side like GWS and Adelaide can be relatively easily beaten by driving them very wide and owning the corridor. We seem to rely upon the switch which is reflective of our high press that leaves the opposite side of the ground free.

Would love to see some alternative tactics adopted if only for a short while on Sunday.

A 50/50 choice.   After this game someone needs to make way for JV7.

In the meantime my theory is to keep the team as stable as possible.  Hence opted for Spargo but hey, small diff.

It will be interesting to see where we play JV7 on his return.   Our midfield is ticking along beautifully.  Do we start him in the fwd pocket to give him a feel for the tempo and let Gus and Clarrie continue on their merry way or does he go straight into the middle and who does he displace... ?

Why would you bring Bugg in when we just beat West Coast in Perth with Spargo playing?  Don’t mess with a team that is well balanced.

Agreed, and it gives the Spark another full-on game for experience and orientation.

they are  a very different 50 and 50 though. I still much prefer whatever Spargo brings to the game..thats my preference I acknowledge

a very good question LH...where does Viney play.....or at least....start  ;)

He can only really play mid or wing...

hence my questioning ...if in the middle he'll naturally play inside...wings are essentially an outside role which Ive never noted Jack to do ..( thats no criticism, just observation )

it just would concern me that he'd gravitate to the guts...and maybe overload.

Not sure how familiar you are with the g (i naturally assume everyone knows it as well as i do!) but the Ponsfordi is the stand at the city end behind the goals. So you look down the ground.

Most people seem to prefer sitting on the wing (which is why you will almost always get a seat at the top of the ponsford) but as i say i prefer being up high behind the goals.

I often think that in this age of presses and players moving all over the ground the coaches would be better of sitting behind the goals rather than the wing

I watched the 2000 QF up top level Ponsford, that wasn't you getting in a fight in the last with a frustrated Carlton fan was it? Haha. Great memories.

It may be well balanced but they do take note of the oppositions strengths and weaknesses as well as the fact there are players with niggles and injuries. They try to pick teams that will beat the opposition so its not just a case of 'no change'.

Well you've reached the key talking point for the next two weeks after this Sundays game.

Is Viney's return an obvious selection given the teams chemistry at the moment?

Main pro and con in my opinion:

Pro: He is a competitive beast made for finals intensity and physicality. As noted by others the team would generally get more confidence/insperation on the day with Jack putting his 100% into every contest.

Con: From what we've seen so far he only really plays inside mid or as a close tag. The worry is that Brayshaw and Clayton are our key ball winners at the moment around the contest and doing it brilliantly. When Viney came back in earlier in the year he and Oliver were literally bumping heads at contests trying to win the ball. They did eventually build some chemistry and system but then Viney got injured again.

I think he will come back in regardless of what we discuss on here. I hope they can build a rotation where he rests on the wings when Oliver is in the middle or rotates a tag with Harmes.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
