I would suggest that the story has leaked, which is out of the clubs control.  When a player goes into hospital for surgery, there’s too many people involved for it to remain quiet.

Yeah, if he had surgery its not hard to put out a statement saying that prior to any journos/radio stations releasing it.

The standard of the media content is so poor. Its actually one thing we should be looking at american sports for. Instead its terrible gimmicks and terrible music

What is worse he was bitten by his own dogs. Nasty bugs in dog saliva. Trac carried it into Tuesday night and it may have flared up again. Surgery usually to drain the infection plus antibiotics means a week out. Note also mentioned in injury report rot was not available last week end due to slight abductor strain, that wasn't mentioned earlier in the week.

Correct. So once they know (which would be prior to the surgery) get on the front foot. It's 100% in the clubs control. They are just very very poor at managing it.

I must be missing something.  Didn't we play the Tigers on Tuesday night?  Are they SURE it was a DOG bite, and not a Tiger bite??!!

I honestly don’t see the difference in who tells us... people take it personally, like they’re being lied to.

Its an individuals medical information.  We were going to find out about the injury at 6:25 tonight... what’s the rush??

Now that I have stopped laughing ... I am getting a little cross

He gets a bite that punctures his skin ... surrounded by medicos and he doesn't think to have it cleaned/looked at.

He is a professional athlete ... we are entitled to better

Frankly, anyone with half a brain, if they were bitten by a dog, would immediately wash the wound and apply basic antiseptic, at the very least!  To miss a game due to this kinda dumbness beggars belief!!

agree.  And if something like this can be kept secret until the teams are announced, all the better in keeping our opponents in the dark.  Perhaps that was the plan.  Even if the probability of it not leaking was low, worth a punt and disgruntling a few Demonlanders.

I suspect the club didn't say anything to not let it out before team lodgements.  The less Ess knows beforehand the better.

? Would clubs have lodged their teams with the afl by 5.00pm?  If not our own demon supporting reporter, Tom Morris, should keep that stuff to himself until lodgement time has passed!  He could still have had his scoop.

Infections are not always easy to manage. Depends on the bacteria. People die from infections they get in hospital!

so let’s stop assuming he didn’t wash it or seek treatment. He is not a moron

Petracca happened to be at a café I was at this morning and he had his whole arm in a sling with his hand wrapped in bandage.

It looked really serious but he was chatting to the owner of the café (and of course I was listening in) and he said he was expecting to still play on Sunday. Obviously he's been told that it won't be happening now that he's had the surgery – but we'll see once the teams come out I guess.

It does sound serious:

“But by today, that infection had gone into his bone and gone down to his finger joint – at the top of the finger.”

“... the doctor actually wants him to stay in hospital over the weekend, just to make sure that the infection’s gone.”

Thankfully will miss only one game.

Great news Tommy's back hopefully in the AFL but he did train with Casey so that's not a good sign.

Maynard and King out for a month. The injury list is starting to get out of control.

No mention on Balic.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
