I’d have had Brayshaw in the side over ANB, Melksham and Tyson for any of the rounds so far.

Cearly there’s something more than ‘form’ that we’re not privy to.

ANB and Melksham have been seriously underwhelming to date. And Tyson hasn’t been much better imo.

Yet none of them have been dropped.

Clearly there is something more than form that we're not privy to ? Clearly ?

I would have Brayshaw in the side before ANB and Melksham and line ball with Tyson but clearly the selectors just don't agree with me.

Yes, just absurd

Behind Alex Pearce for Freo, O Mac is the form key defender in the competition

Lyon is a muppet, who’s views are outdated now that he had no “wolfpack” to back him up!

He played 5 games last year, 10 the year before.  Surely it makes sense for him to get match fit and build into some form before coming into the first team?  he has played 1 competitive game so far.  another good performance and he'll be in.

he is only 22 and played 35 games, hasn't earnt the automatic start status yet although it won't be long before he replaces vince or lewis on the HF line

I recall Melksham had a slowish start last season but just got better and better as the season progressed. Goals have dried up for him but that can change quickly with his excellent kicking skills. So far been serviceable and played his role. Brayshaw has to wait his chance. Is hampered by his vanilla skills and pace.

I like Brayshaw and I'm sure he'll become a regular and prove any doubters wrong, but Lyon is irrelevant as a supporter these days.

There are posters here with far more than a clue about the current Dees.

as always, good to see the respect for former great and club captain Lyon.

A great footballer for the MFC he was. He will always warrant respect in that regard.

However, and this is strictly my opinion, he doesn't seem to be the nicest of people going around (seriously, who sneaks behind his best mate and secretly gets together with his missus - albeit ex).

Furthermore, he had a major hand (along with Schwab) in almost ending the existence of our club. He definitely brought it to its knees.

I don't want Lyon to have anything to do with the functioning of our club, as he has proven to not have the intellect to handle it. He is more than welcome to interact with the club as a former player and supporter.

Tyson has been good since hes been in the side. Other 2 have been poor.

Brayshaw was poor in the AFLX and JLT game bar the saints. Pretty sure @ProDee also made mentioned that the times he was at training during the summer, Brayshaw was struggling in the running groups and was poor in his intensity, something to that extent.. maybe he can clarify.

So he obviously needs to prove to the coaching staff that talent alone will not be the only thing that gets you games.

You only have to watch the body language on Fox to see that there is a degree of discomfort between the four oracles.

Maybe just a question of teething in, but looks a bit more like a "horning in chief" on the horizon......

I don't want this show stuffed, because everyone had cohesion and common sense, but...........

Lyon must have had his head in the stats book (when it wasn’t somewhere darker and far more unpleasant) to say that Brown kicked 4 goals ON Oscar.

Is he unable to look at a game and see what eventuates and how Brown got his goals?

At one stage he was mooted as a potential MFC coach - thank the Lord that he wasn’t, though he would have made Mark Neeld look good.

It always amazes me (though it shouldn’t) how often these twats that are on the chat shows so often admit to not having seen a game, these lazy sods are paid good money to express their opinions, the least they can do is actually watch the games.

if I was a gambling man, I would be willing to bet that Lying hasn’t even watched the game

agree that his character has been put into question regarding Bill's ex

but Garry stated many times he didnt want to be involved with the functioning of the club, he was basically begged into being on the coaching recruitment panel.  maybe next time MFC should listen to an ex player when they say they don't want to be involved.

Its called depth Gaz.

I too would like to see Gus play but thankfully theres a fair bit of competition in the club these days.

Err, I think there is a distinct case to be made that the balance of the team is not quite right yet. Max is being run into the ground, and we all know what happened last time we did that - he missed 10 weeks and the decision was directly responsible for our missing the finals.

Our forward line is also undersized. It is ok against mediocre sides like Brisbane and Norf, but it will be cruelly exposed when we come up against the top 4.

Also, I don’t think either Harmes or Neal-Bullen are up to the required standard to play finals, particularly when Viney and McDonald come back. Brayshaw is, but he needs game time.

Hence for me this week we need Weideman to strengthen our forward set up and relief ruck. I saw him on Sunday for Casey and he not only kicked five goal, he also looked like a natural in the ruck. The club also announced Brayshaw to be best on ground.

For me, we would be a very much better side if we included the Weid and Brayshaw for Harmes and Neal-Bullen.

In the longer term, it will be interesting when McDonald and Viney return. My prediction we will put McDonald back to the back line and have Hogan and Weid upforward at the expense of Frost. Viney at the expense of either Bugg or Fritsch.

Obviously, everything will depend on form, but these changes make us look very much like a top two side. Exciting!!

This may be controversial, but I have heard that 'Hollywood' may be Brayshaw's problem at the moment and it is the reason he's not playing in the seniors.

Slightly off topic, but what about this?

"Brayshaw’s teammate Oscar McDonald has had a tough start to the season in defence with Ben Brown kicking four goals on him last week, but Lyon backs the 22-year-old to find form."

That is utter garbage.

Geez that has really ticked me off.

And the last time you got involved in the club dipstick you helped set us back 8 years.

Perhaps he needs to explain.

I heard that he can be a bit lazy and a bit whingy. I reckon he'll fix this and be back in the 22 pretty soon.

The bar has been raised and some have not been as quick to respond to the new standard.

Shows a poor knowledge of what is actually happening. The coaching staff would be laughing.

So typical of so many so called experts who are ex players. Often clueless and their lack of research and work is evident. Even more embarrassing for lyon given he was discussing his team.

In the states few experts in sports media are ex players and actually know what they they are talking about.

That would make sense, as he's definitely not as fit as he should be.

I don't agree with Lyon saying that Oscar has been particularly out played. He is just under weight and under experienced.

Remember he is roughly the same age and build as Lever who is arguably in a different league of AFL quality and skill. I would not expect any recruiter of another club to offer more than a 2nd round draft pick for O Mac.

Those here that continue to insist  young O Mac belongs in the company of the game's best defenders are equally as one eyed as G Lyon. In my personal view.

Just on the other side of the same coin.

Lyon is fair to comment that Oscar is relatively untouchable, but that has little to do with Gus being left out of the side and should not have been raised.

Lyon is clearly make the point that the coach has favorites. As we all do.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
