Just had a look at the weather; 20’ with 60% chance of a shower.

Could another tall (weed) be a liability if it’s slippery?

In- Gus and Weed

Out - Tyson and Fritsch

Yep would not be surprised and in fact the more I think about it the more I like it. Stretch the Hawks for Height and run up forward!! Fritsch has a rest!

ANB and Harmes better perform!! Undr the pump BIG TIME

Weideman may or may not get a call up, but it's fantastic that he's getting close.

The MC would have been sitting around having differing conversations too.

Weed for Fritcsh gives Hawks some serious thoughts on a tall who can play on him!?

Gus for Dom is a laydown Misere!

How Billy Stretch is even in calculations baffles me An average game last week. Must have some serious love from the coaching panel but I just don't rate him

Surely Balic a much better bet!

Gus for Dom is logical.  The only question for me is do we retain Fritta's coolness and superior strength overhead, or opt for  Mitch Hannan as an additional mid rotation?

Dee for so early in his career Fritsch is a bloody good finisher/disposer of the pill and a lovely left foot.  Reads the play like a veteran already when it's in motion. Great vision also and DOESN'T panic.  Assesses and delivers beautifully most of the time by both hand and foot.  His ability to read play and judge the ball so well allows him time and space that others don't often have in general play, even this early!

One on one in a marking contest he obviously isn't going to win too often given his size so we give up some gains on that side for sure.

But I would take 15 or so disposals from Fritsch over the equivalent from a few of the other fringe forwards right now.  Super young and inexperienced, will probably need a break in coming weeks/months.  He is raw, young and easily pushed off the ball, but for all that, he is also all class in all other aspects and knows how to finish in front of goals!  A rare commodity up forward at Demonland....keep him in unless he puts in a horror FCS!

We kicked our highest score last week with a small line up, can't see us changing that structure. No Weid for me.

I could see Weid in for Melk this week Werridee but the FD obviously felt Melk did enough in that last quarter or so for another run or they just prefer him in the match ups.  Would be nice to be a fly on the wall inside the 4 walls to see what the thinking / strategy is.

The FD seems to have settled on the no change other than Tyson for illness as we know, so Fritsch looks like he's getting another run.

Frankly the VFL team we played against on Sunday wasn't really a good week to be judging who is truly pushing up with great form and who isn't so it was always going to be tough to break in to the seniors this week.  Melk & ANB have been very lucky though regardless.

Stretch had 25 disposals I wouldn't say it was an average game.

Surprised to see all of ANB, Harmes and Melksham in the starting 18 and IMO should consider themselves lucky given who the i/change players are.

Tyson out due to illness.

I/change from: Angus Brayshaw, Billy Stretch, Bayley Fritsch, Mitch Hannan, Sam Weideman, Jayden Hunt, Jeff Garlett, Josh Wagner

You would think that Garlett is definitely in - then ????  Depends on speed needed and match ups.

Also, its a replacement for an NT game so members get in free:  Looking ahead to this round’s clash, Goodwin urged the Melbourne faithful to come out in force for what promises to be a fascinating encounter.

I’d go Brayshaw in for Tyson and leave it at that

I have the feeling stretch is in for his 1st run of 2018 literally.  We need a bit more run, & some dash wouldn't go astray.

I don't think there will be many changes, like many posters have said.

I think if fit, Garlett & Wagner are 'certs', So I'll add in my gut feel here in Stretch, one more to come,  I don't think Fritsch deserves to be dropped, so I reckon he's in the side.

My Int: >  Garlett, Wagner, Stretch, Fritsch.

Probably the lightest interchange bench in VFL/AFL history. Not much bulk there.

People are suggesting Frost or ANB might be dropped but I'm 99.9% sure that the outs will come from the extended bench.

Assuming that's correct, I think Brayshaw for Tyson makes sense. I doubt Weideman will come in off the back of one (good) VFL game, and I don't think we need him structurally against Hawthorn. I could, though, see Hunt getting a game purely on the basis that Hawthorn have four small and pacey forwards. If he comes in, it could be Fritsch who makes way (I can't see Garlett or Wagner being dropped).

The hawks aren't all that big a side, they are lithe nimble & run, move the ball.

they have Roughy & McEvoy, and Frawley not much else.

IF, Bernie plays on Mitchell, he goes into the middle lineup. so then we need an outside runner.  Although there's been talk Bernie is sore.

Bernie won't miss. I'm sure.

Hunt won't play he's outa form.

I agree Re Weideman.

Fritsch, can mark overhead, they should not drop him after doing well. He doesn't need a rest yet. The team lacks marking power. and skill and class.

They have had a little success in the modern game. Take no notice.

Currently, Frawley has no matchup.  He can’t run with Hogan.  If we bring in weed, we give him a match up!  Makes picking him more complex.

Down the other end, they have Roughy.  Perhaps start OMac.  Lever Gets Gunston and Frosy OBrien.  Jetta Gets Cyril

cant see hunt or stretch in at this point.  So Angus looks most likely.  Doubt any other changes at this stage.

high intensity game, improved i50 delivery and better use of changing lanes by us.  Curb Mitchell by not letting him get the pill and pressure their ball carrier and we win by 20 points.  Stand off them and let them use their skills and we lose by 20.

While this mail is likely to be on I think the Weid in this week would have been handy to have some extra height up forward and provide Max with a chop out in the middle occasionally (when ball's in forward 50 also), allowing Max to play a kick behind when the press is on.

Having said that, the VFL opponent on the weekend was bog ordinary and almost impossible to judge anyone's form from it, including Brayshaw's.

A big win looming IF we get the Mitchell lock down job done AND close of Hawthorn's obsession with running in waves off HB and sharing it as they run diagonally through the corridor, then a quick long raking kick to the hot zone around 30 meters once they hit mid field (or thereabouts).  Need to protect  the corridor, especially from the back of the square and push em out wide early on their attempted rebound runs.  Killed us with this strategy last year and in the games I've seen so far they are still doing it against opponents.  The Tigers were on it though and have been for some time now with regular success.

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
