Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Christ, should the team have given up and let BrisVegas had the lollies, so the MFC Syndrome could have the jollies?

"It's so like Melbourne to roll over and lose against a team like this". We didn't.

"We screwed up our draft picks again". We didn't.

"X Team would have beaten them by eleven billionty goals". They don't exist.

It's bloody frustrating but some of the hyperbole in the game day threads and post discussion are silly. Critical analysis... sure... Critical always about everything MFC... not so much.

You're only as good as your next game.

We get frustrated because we see the same mistakes over and over again, and when we make these same mistakes against better opposition we will lose.

The result is almost irrelevant, it's about seeing the team play a certain way and creating habits that will lead to sustained success.

They were last year's wooden spooners and we struggled.

Hardly something to celebrate if we think we deserve a spot in the 8.

Yes we will all take the 4 points happily but we clearly have a lot of leaks to plug.

True, but every team who makes the 8 have some bad games during the season.   Hell, Richmond were flogged by the Saints in the middle of the last season.

No sides dominate every week.  It's what you do in those games that you struggle in that counts.  We got the lollies today which is a positive, but as you say, we have some issues that need fixing.  Hopefully we sung the song and moved on quickly.

Good sides find a way to win. The old Melbourne would have thrown it away in that last quarter when the lions were level. We looked gone and it was a sick feeling. They found a way to win and by 26 points. Can you believe it ?    Well done Dees! you are maturing .Some iffy umpiring decisions and one in front against Jetta, the mind boggles. The holding the ball decision in the crucial last Quarter.

Out of jail or not the old Melbourne would have capitulated. You made my Easter.

For God's sake. We came off just over a 6 day break, had to travel after playing a tough game last week. We won ffs. Enjoy and think of next week. Geez there's some plonkers on here

It’s rnd 2?! These type of comments are amusing, pulling out a 6 day break and a flight to Brissy as an issue.

It was good to get the win. For a while there it looked unlikely. Some positive signs today from Hogan and Garlett. Continued excellence from Oliver. I thought Wagner looked better today. Then there is Bugg, Tyson and Harmes - just not up to it. Those three were costly today. We need to look at improving our depth if we are to challenge consistently.

Salem is silky at times but cannot stay on his feet, and is not capable of applying pressure when needed.

Give him time, he's doing some good things, and we need variation in the middle.  we can't have all vineys, jones's, petracca's, tyspon's, maynards & lewis's, only in our mid setup.

Oli' aside, we need more variation in the setup.

I think we have to allow Salem to get more time thru the middle, as well as Hogan. Hannan, and eventually Fritta, once hes got 20+ games under his kilt.

Time will unearth some gems we didn't expect, in the centre square for us, we just gotta keep diggin it. they'll turn up.

How so many can play down or excuse giving up a 42 point lead against a bottom 4 team is really astonishing.

Could not be more disappointed. With all that happened last year yet we still lack desire to be ruthless.

Oliver and Hogan have been the only enjoyable aspects of our first two games. Just hope there is improvement as the year progresses.

A tale of two halves:

The first half I saw hard running both ways, good forward pressure and decent skill hitting targets. Guys like Trac and Hibberd getting it on a string.

The second half I saw a lot less running, a lot more fumbling (understand the conditions played some part) and a lot more panicking. Garlett and Hodges saved the day, Clarry you can hold your head up high but across the board we really dropped off.

How many of these games does Lever have to have before we worry? Because right now he’s looking like the most expensive 3rd tall defender ever.

This club is at a point where we can’t just be “happy we won”. If we are serious about taking the next step we can’t keep burying our head in the sand.

This is not 2017, I don’t care about just grinding out a win against an average team, and neither should the club. We need to look at the issues we have with consistency in games, with a lack of plan B, with poor mental lapses and defensive efforts.

Yes 4 points is great, but finals teams are ruthless. They know how to put their foot down and win these sorts of games by big margins. We simply collapse under pressure and it is nothing new.

If we keep accepting mediocre wins we will continue to be a mediocre team. I want a flag, nothing else matters. If we play like this and win a flag so be it, but we won’t.

ruthless has to start inside the clubs leadership, from the coaches, selectors, to the co-captains.  see hodge...  captains have to make sure the players are doing their all,,, or they can go back to the VFL.

ruthless has to begin NOW.

Not wrist slashing but.... “Good teams”?!

We played finals last time? Last year we did what? We’re currently 1-1 when we should be 2-0... we keep getting thrashed in 1 qtr that loses is games..

Come on.

Pull yer head out of your arse mate.

I guarantee you the tigers won ugly last year. Hence the statement that good teams find a way to win ugly.

Im not saying we dont have issues im saying we found a way to win, scored 100 pts, kept the opposition under 80, and are still.missing 2 of our top 5.

If you're going to argue come back with something better then we keep getting beaten in 1 qtt because last time i checked it was only being in front at the final siren that matters.

Hopefully he can learn to become the player Oscar has in time..

Just now, Clint Bizkit said:

Our core midfield depth is non-existent.

Without Viney, Oliver is our only genuine ball winner (aside from the odd Jones cameo).

My hope was Harmes. Salem and Neal Bullen would come on but it hasn't happened yet.

NB someone needs to tell Harmes that his job is not to take hangers 3 deep against our talls.

He was horrible tonight but if we do make finals I don’t believe the coaches will be leaving out just about the only player with finals experience.

We don't gift games any longer.

If we want to become ruthless, we have to act on the training track & at selection meetings. If he's dew an early morning wake-up call, so be it.

Let him kick the dew drops off the grass down at Casey.   Might freshen him up a bit.

I'm not so sure about that one Sigs.   We gave up too much for Lever.

Time will tell just how much it has cost?

Just watched Highlights. First thing I noticed was the sweat: it must have been humid and debilitating. Sure, both sides were out there but I'd venture that if you've trained and lived in a humid, sweaty environment for a while your body adjusts more quickly and efficiently than a newcomer's. I experienced that in Brunswick Heads in late November last year, I found the humidity overwhelming: the locals just said, this is nothing.

In the end, it was a win in difficult circumstances. I'll take a win any day...

I really do not understand some of our supporter base and how negative they can be...

An interstate win, by 4 goals against a team choc full of talent.

Yes it's frustrating we gave up 7 goal lead, but AFL footy is a game of momentum brissy got on a run and played very well for the 3rd and half of the 4th.

Not to mention we have some star players in putrid form (hunt, jetta & lever) and 2 of our top 10 players out.

We cannot and will not win every game by 10 goals.

Great grinding win on the road and excited about the roos next week!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
