Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

Yes, we have 4 emergencies but they don't all travel for interstate games.

Kent and Frost are the other 2.

If so, what is the point?  To obey some AFL rule?  So they play at Casey today pretending to the AFL that we would fly them up to Brisbane tomorrow by rocket if needed at the last minute?

ah thank you .. how monty python like ....

apparently the Bulldogs stuffed up allowing one of their suspended players to play in a VFL practice match and thus he cannot play this week in the AFL.

Seems that even the clubs have difficulties with the intricacies of the rules.

Similar to Lewis and Hogan in R2(?) except Bugg was (over) retaliating.

Bugg threw his fist out and caught the guy right on the chin while he was running along, he did the wrong thing, but stiff to hit him flush!

yeah LOL

Apparently he took me off ignore just so he could send me a PM to let me know how he had me on ignore but that I was off ignore momentarily so he could send me said PM and tell me to stop replying to his posts cos I am on his ignore list, (I guess he still gets the notifications and it seems to be bothering him hehe). Title of the PM was  'Boring blowhard' , and he claimed that replying to his forum posts amounts to me stalking him and signed off with a nice insult.

I should post it here for the lolz

Mine had the same title, mentioned how I'm on ignore yet he was somehow reading my posts, and had the odd insult in it as well.

Say one thing for the man - at least he is predictable.

Happy for Bugg. Honestly feel like he is one of our most underrated players. Guy works his ass off, gives lip and is always in the right places. If we win a premiership mark my words he will be in the team.

Yep also with JV out we need a bit of agro around the ground. Not too much though Tommy.

Curious as to the thoughts on Dean Kent.

The non-listing of Brayshaw as an emergency has created some discussion. Personally it’s pleasing to see Kent getting closer for a senior berth perhaps. Bit of a forgotten man....hopefully he plays a beauty at Casey today to at least keep the competition for forward spots fierce.

Kent is a very good player having to make his own pathways as our midfield bombs away as high and as long as it can. Kent has good aggression, speed and on-the-run skills, and has shown that given opportunity, he knows where the goals are located and can exploit that or pass, effectively. Bit more practice and he'll be in that team of 22 I'd expect.

I've backed Kent in the past, but his last few seasons for us have been pretty poor.  Right now I don't think he would be in our best 30 players.

Could that improve?  Possibly, but he's been on the list a long time now and hasn't made the progression you would expect in that time.

It’s a bloody shame WB, three years ago he could have been anything

Statistically, Kent’s best season was 2016. He played 20 games that year and was great I thought. Maybe if he can get his body right, he could surprise.

I like Dean Kent but unfortunately  l feel Hannan and probably Bayley are now ahead if him, all vying for the same spot.

Not sure why you would want Bugg ahead of Brayshaw, for the record Bugg has the worst behind to goal ratio at the club- suer he gets it....sometimes, but when he does he cant convert. Brayshaw must be injured still.

An ideal run with option for the likes of Selwood and Ablett last week.  Not near the goals under that role either but can get a few possessions himself.  Missed the boat on this option last week playing Maynard and umpteen other options on Ablett beforehand.

Bugg plays the nuisance role well and has an uncanny ability to get under the skin of his opponent, a little like Vince was doing a few seasons back.  Vince and Bugg rotating into this role on ball magnet types (when needed) would be better than allowing them a free reign on inexperienced or part time mids, where they are able to rack up high numbers and run rampant.

The run with role is not dead and by limiting a ball magnet's influence a little it gives us a chance to out score our opponent and come over the top in games like last week.

Bugg also brings a high level of intensity at the contest in most games that is sometimes lacking by others, especially with Viney out.

I like the changes.  I'm on the record as being a fan of Bugg and I think he brings something unique to our side, especially the forward line.  Kicking aside, he's a good mark, knows how to kick a goal and is a good pressure forward.  Hannan really didn't do much at all last week so it's not a surprising change.

Tyson for Maynard is a no brainer.  Maynard will get another shot, he just might have to wait a little bit.

Brayshaw has to injured as Goodwin said he was unlucky to miss last week.

WB he might know how to kick a goal but seems miss quite often?  I must be missing something

I probably should rephrase that to 'knows how to get himself into position to kick a few goals, even though he misses his fair share.  But he brings more to the side than Hannan does at the moment, so his selection is a good one.

I’d completely forgotten about Kent. If he could stay injury free and get a decent run at it he could give us some of that outside speed which we need.

Hmm nothing like a little revisionism. He shaped up and landed one fair on the chin. Very poor act from which he did not play again in 2017.

If it was an actual VFL game I might be interested P-man.  He would need a massive turnaround on last year's regression.

So D4 you are saying he got lucky and he should keep that act going as he probably won't hit anyone flush like that too often?

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
