My heart, beating true for the red and the blue nonetheless, couldn't ' stand the tension.

Still, the only thing better than thrashing Collingwood is beating them by a point, after the siren, and more so if it is from a controversial (or better still a blatantly incorrect) free to us.

Another enjoyable way to beat Collingwood in a Grand Final would be to see Harmes knock the ball back into play when it is arguably over the boundary line in the forward pocket in front of the members which then leads to the winning goal.

Well, they do say that people marry their opposites!  Certainly couldn't be any truer in this instance!  After all, if there was ever a total opposite of "The Melbourne Footy Club, the greatest football club in the world", it would certainly be Collingwood!!

I think Essendon are the complete opposite to Melbourne, not Collingwood. Melbourne is old money traditionally and Essendon are everything that is vulgar about the Nouveau Riche.

Sam Weideman has arrived, breakout game in a final, amazing, well done Weed :)

Top game Weeds, first quarter was awesome.

Cut our losses and trade him.

24 disposals, 7 marks, 3 goals and 1 best on ground. Take an effing bow, Sam. You were super.

Far out he was BRILLIANT.

Shades of Schwarzs 1994 finals explosion.  Unbelievable stuff!

That is one of the best games I have ever seen from a 16 game forward. He is seriously good. What a game!

Wow.. great in the air.. great in the ruck.., even better at ground level..

How did so many teams overlook Sam Weideman. I suppose that he has taken 3 years to develop but imagine him with Hogan next year.

Took the nice guy instead of the mongrel player as per usual. Curnow kicked more goals tonight then probably Weed has in his whole career.

Amazing that a top 10 pick with 3 years on the list isn’t pushing for selection despite injuries and first year players like Fritch can stroll right into seniors.

Watch The Weid become the new whipping boy now that Watts is gone

Yeah Weideman at 9, 4 picks before Curnow was a shocker. You get that one right and we are on our way. You'd just love to know how keen we were before the drink driving thing, which was probably setup by Carlton.

BUMP

Better then any game Charlie Curnow has played!

I knew he was talented but holy [censored] i didnt know he was this good!!!

Weeeeeddd!!

Can one of the admins please go delete all records which exist of me comparing Sam to Lucas Cook. Please?

Just another Jason Taylor / Todd Viney rippa!

Excellent game. Proved many posters wrong. I’ve supported him but was worried he would move on if behind Hogan and tommy mcd.

Will play a key role next week

but not to consume his own bathwater

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
