We'll see.

Please don't blame a loss on the fact that Dom was left out though.

I won’t. But I’ll probably blame it on Wagner’s inclusion.

I wonder if Goody is telling Tyson something ( maybe ring leader against Commando camp)?

Would be bloody childish response if you were even close to the mark JAG!

We are supposed to pick players who can help us win games.

Or could be that he is just telling Geelong porkies.    Who knows.

I think the blueprint is pretty obvious. Goody clearly loves a a dynamic and versatile team and Wagner's inclusion is evidence of that.

Wagner allows us to play all of Hunt, Jones, Vince and Lewis in a variety of roles which will hopefully work in our favour. Tyson cannot play any position other than inside mid and his inclusion restricts Goody's creativity.

Maynard is the interesting one for me, because similarly to Tyson I see him being fairly one-dimensional. But maybe Goody and co have some ideas of roles come game day.

All-in-all it's a fairly strong side all over the ground, unlike Geelong's 22.

Pretty disappointed with that bench. Wagner is a liability on the field. Worse field kicking than Tyson and gets a lot less of the ball. Not happy. Maynard over a Brayshaw is so-so as I like his hardness.

No longer as confident as I was!

I don’t understand Maynard over Brayshaw and Tyson.

However looking at that lineup, without Wagner we’d be very light on defenders who actually defend. (Yes, this excludes Vince and Lewis)

Last year can't remember which round, we had a few mid field injuries and some players that were really  playing well in the midfield at Casey were left out for disciplinary reasons.

I don't thing Goody is afraid to make a statement.

I've always been critical of Tyson's turnover ratio. Last night, for example, some commentators - Richardson was one - were raving about the work rate of Cripps. I wasn't. I wanted to throw darts at the screen because the goose kept turning the ball over.

Still, I would have played him and Brayshaw before Maynard and Wagner...

Perhaps there are fitness clouds over both, Brayshaw with his recently departed molars, Tyson perhaps still needing more time to fully recover.

Round one you need 100% fit and ready players. Tyson hasn’t played since his injury and Gus had his Op a few days ago.

Whats the big surprise?

if Wagner gets a run of 10+ games without injury he will surprise a few around here

This was T Mac. He raised it with Jones and the club and was quietly dumped from the leadership group following the debacle.

No wonder T. Mac has a sore big toe. Goodwin's been stickin voodoo needles into his effigy.

Gotta love that positive outlook Steve the man! I don't quite see it as one sided a contest through my aging eyes.

We have some very soft spots which will be on full display on Sunday.

Hope your confidence in the "brains trust" is more in their brains than your trust.

Outcome is too close to call for me.

After a pre-season of obsessing over the round 1 22, there's always a few shocks when the team is finally announced.

With that said, I'm sceptical with the Maynard/Tyson and Brayshaw/Wagner decision.  Hope I'm proven wrong, but I don't trust Wagner with or around the ball and Maynard is still very, very inexperienced at any level of football.

I'm still in disbelief.

I can take Maynard for Brayshaw as he seems like a brute and that could be handy in the middle.

I can't stand Wagner. He is almost useless and to pick him over Tyson is embarrassing.

To be honest. I felt better about our chances before the final selections than after.

Goody will be hailed as either a genius or a goose by 6.30 Sunday afternoon.

Does Maynard do much of that though? Or do we just expect him to because of his size? I haven’t seen him play all that much.

Yes he can Ethan. Saw him play in Canberra and liked him - he is capable of the heavy work.

Would have liked Tyson in .

Don't forget Tyson had a limited preseason and Wagner has Impressed a lot so the coaches will give him a few chances

I had Tyson and Brayshaw in my best 22. The explanation that Brayshaw is coming off op (infection common with Wisdom extraction) and Tyson slightly underdone are the most plausible explanations. Don't agree with the Wagner haters... he competes in the air and on the ground... he gets to contests... he plays his role fearlessly (no wonder the Cocka loves him). I see it as a positive that we are going in with a different team than the one that rolled over in round 23. Maynard tackles hard and tackles often... when he feels at home in the seniors he will accumulate big figures!

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
