  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

2018 Ladder Prediction Competition

Recommended Posts

Every nuffie in the media is having their say so it's time we football forum nuffies have a go.

This is the final ladder at the end of the home and away season.

Point scoring system:

  • Three points if you correctly guess a top eight team's position
  • Two points if you correctly guess a team outside the top eight's position
  • One point if you correctly guess a team finishing in the top eight but you don't get their correct position

The winner will be showered with compliments and the loser will be forced to watch Mark Neeld's pre-game speeches on repeat.

I think there will be just a handful of points separating the top and bottom teams, such a lottery this year.

Cant see Geelong missing top 4 unfortunately, not with Danger, Hawkins, Selwood and Ablett plus a ridiculous home ground advantage that any other team would kill for.

The downside of coming last makes this a significant exercise you'd want to consider carefully.

I did my tips for the year on the weekend and only picked us to lose twice. On this basis, I'm not willing to risk it. Watching Mark Neeld on repeat would have me calling lifeline afterwards.

Some random thoughts

Interesting that this is one year where the interstate teams cannot "bank" two wins against their cross town opponents.

In the past it is normal for one of the interstate teams to be up and its cross city rival is down.

Looking at them for 2018 the largest disparity is probably between Freo and the Eagles but neither is a definite winner or loser.

This year we have Freo in Darwin. It's a must win for the Dees as one can expect that the rest of the teams fighting for the 8 will register home wins against Freo.

We have two games against Adelaide including one being our home game in Alice. Split those and we can be top 4. Lose both and it gets harder.

13 wins for the 8 and 16.5 for 4th is my prediction.

Strangely as others have mentioned we could turn at the bye at 9-2 and still only end up with 13 wins given our tough schedule in he second half of the year.

Saints could be our new North .. we just have to beat them twice.

As to the final ladder I have no idea but North for the spoon is probably a good bet unless they can turn Tassie into their fortress and pick up say 4 wins down there.

For number 1 my pick is GWS. They were nearly there last year but they had a bad run with injuries.

Richmond's game plan like ours can win any game on a given day but it is high maintenance and high risk. Somewhere between 3 and 6 for the Toiges.

The Bulldogs are my conundrum team. Sure 2016 was a lucky premiership (oh we could have that luck) but the fact remains that they were easily in the 8 that year.

I normally like to start with which teams I think are certainties to play finals then the teams I think certainly won't, then fill in the middle. Every year this gets more and more difficult. My top 3 I think make it easily and are a step above everyone else and from 12 down aren't finals material. Geelong are the hardest to pin, Selwood Dangerfield and Abblet may be the best starting 3 midfielders of the modern era. (I'm 30 so hard to comment before 2000's).

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
