GF favourites after tonight?

I thought the GF was last night .....or is there another one tonight?

Great idea Gil.

How about a GF after each half of footy, then add them all up at the end of the season, multiply by SFA and announce the premier of premiers without bothering with a finals series.

I mean he’s awesome haha

Maynard has been good.

Really? I thought he was very ordinary, terrible decision to not got for the ball on the goal line. I can't really see what tricks he has, just looks vanilla to me.

Skills of the usual suspects were very average in this game.

LOL, I knew there'd be one.

A couple of rule changes and it could be alright.

Play on a bigger oval.

Have 18 a side on the field.

4 20 minute quarters with time on.

Get rid of super goals, add rucks, tackling and contests.

For one thing the ground is not long enough for the length of kicks

At this level, no. But it's not designed for elite athletes, it's not even designed as a spectator sport, it's designed to give easy access to jo/joanne average who just want to try Aust. Rules football. As I mentioned earlier, I watch something similar to this all the time here in Europe, and you are NOT seeing players who can regularly and accurately hoof the ball 50 m. Scores in the game I watch are similar to/lower than regular footy, even though they play 4 x 20 minute quarters.

I definitely think it will help to increase participation internationally. What place it has in Australia on a professional/serious level, difficult to say, and like most here, I wouldn't be queuing up to watch it.

Does it count as a broken record if we beat North Melbourne or is that wishful thinking?

Doesn’t count. We’ve beat them in NAB cup in the past few years. Having said that, I still want to crush them tonight!

Takeaways from our first game................

Jake Melksham isn't just pretty, he can kick a footy.

Petracca has a great vertical leap.

McDonald can take a contested grab.

Carlton has the spoon in the bag.

MFC for the flag this year.

Jonnie Red makes me positive about 2018

Missed the Dees game

But from the few minutes I watched last night, not excited about the concept.

One thing that (used to) set footy above the American  games of basketball and gridiron at least from my enjoyment point of view, was the lack of artificial props like the blaring “music” after goals, lack of cheerleaders and lack of smoke and mirrors.   Heaven forbid if these ever intrude into our true game - these things make this version basically crap.

:) Well it's hard to take anything from these games, and I found it hard to watch. Clearly Maynards game isn't suited to this style of football.

Did you think he was good?

I don't think it's worth analysing anyone's performance, except for maybe TMac's contested marking.

    DERAILMENT by KC from Casey

It wasn’t quite a trainwreck although at times, it sure looked like one, so I’ll settle for “derailment”.  The trip to Brighton Homes Arena in Springfield outside the back of Brisbane might not exactly be the same place where Homer Simpson’s family resides but, if you listened closely to the utterances of the Casey Demons fans both at the ground or watching via livestream, you could hear lots of groaning and plenty of expressions of “D'oh!” reverberating in the background, particular

TEN YEARS AFTER by Whispering Jack

Things have changed in the more than ten years since the West Coast Eagles decimated Melbourne by 93 points on the MCG early in the 2014 season. The two sides had not met at the home of football in the interim until yesterday when Melbourne won by a comfortable 54 points to remain in contention for this year’s finals series. Back in those days, the Demons were in the midst of their Great Depression but they have since tasted premiership glory and experienced a long enough period among

GAMEDAY: Rd 17 vs West Coast

It’s game day and the Demons return to Melbourne to play the Eagles at the MCG for the first time in over a decade. A win keeps the Dees finals hopes alive whereas a loss will almost certainly slam the finals window shut.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well
