It is great they got them deal done before the start of the season, the issue just is the lost merchandise revenue by having the deal done so late.

I can understand frustration on this point, but surely it's much more important that both parties are comfortable on signing off on what is a large money deal?

The wrist slashing on here about sponsorship is astounding. The club under Peter Jackson has done an amazing job.

Sponsorship is hard. It's slow dance with uncertain outcomes and difficult negotiations. Yet some here think the club should update members every 2 seconds about why they haven't filled a sponsor position. These people frankly have no idea how difficult it is. There aren't 100 sponsors waiting in the wings to throw $2-3m a year at the club.

Well done to the admin of our club. Quality sponsor.

I'm surprised they jumped on board.. after our round 23 debacle last year, I'd thought we'd never get a major sponsor again.

They just purchased OneCare insurance from ANZ Wealth.

Will be interesting times, I think the deal makes them Australia's largest insurer now, overtaking TAL.

They take ownership of it later in the year

Not to mention telling every supporter everything about everything, at the MFC, whether it's sensitive information or not.

I wait for the complaint that supporters should be told the team each week, even before it is selected.

Apparently a Geelong supporter questioned Chris Scott about having no "plan B" at the Geelong AGM

I mean, there's holding the club accountable and then there is just unbridled stupidity

does this mean we get a huge swiss insurance company AND a japanese luxury car brand

Well, you're going to want to have good insurance for the car, aren't you?

Zurich is big on life insurance, I wonder what their actuaries will make of MFCSS?

Congrats to PJ and the club on this. Zurich is a great get, a well respected global company and a sponsor who should appeal to our membership base. Hopefully this is the beginning of a long term partnership akin to Sydney/QBE.

Speaking of Mr. Jackson he leaves at the end of the year and there was going to be understudy in place this year to take over from him in much the same way they handled the coaching transition. No replacement announced yet that I have heard is there any news out there?
Time marches on.

Not sure this is a sexy enough announcement (the understudy) to bother making public. The replacement is though.

Just supports the argument that R23 would only be a very minor consideration in the minds of sponsors, however hard it was to bear as a supporter.

I would have thought the missed opportunity to give the sponsors more exposure by playing extra games in September would absolutely be a major consideration. Any other scenario doesn't really make sense from a business perspective.

Fairly confident that wont happen Mr. Leg.

He announced his leaving plan last year so just wondering who the replacement might be.

So it is not possible to ask the question Wise one?

Seems to me it is just a question about who the replacement for PJ the man who saved us from extinction might be.

I am truely sorry that you see this as negative.

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
