I stopped watching at qtr time after the duckers had 3 dubious free kicks:  Selwood faked a hit on the head (resulted in a goal).  Dangerfield who dived forward (kicked a point) and another to him for some unknown reason (goal).  Even the commentators were saying umpires should pay what they see and not what they think happens to champions.

Meanwhile, at the other end Taylor (and sometimes Touy) were blocking Buddy or manhandling him eons before the ball got near them and at one stage Taylor got the free because Buddy jostled him out of the way.  Buddy got no protection whatsoever from the umpires.

The die was cast in the first 20 minutes and the terrible umpiring gave Geelong all the momentum and the quarter time lead.

The final score suggests Sydney were outplayed and outcoached so didn't deserve to win.

But that doesn't overcome the umpires' favouritism for certain players and noticeable lack of that for others.

Utter crap Geelong did not have a big lead at qtr time games are not won  by umpireing, umpireing did not lead parker to have no  influence or Kennedy to gets 17 positions, or  McVeigh too hardly to get the ball, their prime movers all had quiet nights.

All this whinging about umpires.........It's not even a MFC game.

Our game is the hardest in the world to umpire.   The AFL don't make it any easier with interpretations on a weekly basis and rule of the week.

And please don't tell me that umpires go out to make sure that certain teams win or have it in for teams or players.   They just pay 'em as they see 'em and they do it without TV replays or different angles over and over again.

I wonder how many DL's have actually umpired a game, every decision you make is wrong according to half the crowd.

Without umpires we don't have a game.   Or we could go back to the captains making the decisions, that would be great wouldn't it?

Yes they make mistakes but not as many as the players do every week, so how about we give them a break.

Unlike the players, they can't be criticised.

Diving in soccer is one of the biggest blights on the game and it is now an art form.

In AFL the act of "faking for the free" (not sure what to call it) is becoming an increasing issue. A few reports and suspensions would wipe it out ... much like the running into the umpire from 20 years ago. Bringing the game into disrepute is what I am thinking.

As a hypothetical do demonlanders consider Bartlett's actions of bouncing the ball when tackled and thus drawing a free kick worthy of suspension if it were the modern game. I raise this because with all rules the question is where the line is drawn.

PS: Dangerfield went down enormously in my opinion last night with that dive. He is a great player who does not need to resort to such tactics.

DLs back. Some points from the game so far.

AFL must be stoked with 8k at a final?!

GWS has to trade one of Cameron or Patton, they can't be in same fwd line.
Stevie J, liability at this stage. So much the GWS depth
Barras and McGovern.. can play!
GWS by 80 points
Gaff, would be handy at the Dees.

If you bounce the ball while being tackled its holding the ball against you as you havent disposed of it properly. Incorrect disposal

The more I watch of the finals this year the more bummed I am that we missed out. Not very impressed at all with the quality.

Worst finals I can recall.

I detest west coke ... always have ever since watching the '94 prelim as a kid and having our flag dream crushed . Theyre flat track bullies , loosing 8th spot to them was excruciating

Enjoying seeing their season now go down in flames  ?

And even better whilst listening to some Bowie

give up on this game. GWS will win easily. So now we will have a gws richmond prelim. Great dont want either team to win.

Agree but at least if it's the giants you won't have to hear about it !

If richmond make the GF it will be like the gremlins when the sprinklers go off.... they'll multiply and mutate

True and in a way I would want the giants to knock off the tiges if I knew the giants wouldnt win the big one.

but look how the cats got booed last week, there will hardly be any gws fans there. It will all be yellow and black. Imagine how loud the boos will be when the giants run out.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
