Just trade him for something, anything, so we can shut up and just move on.

While I agree with you, its never going to happen.

I'd be happy with a straight swap for Ollie Wines.  Simples!  Get it done, MFC!!

I think we get Toumpas back and a late 5th rounder!

A man can hope.  This is arguably the worst thread I've ever read on this site and I feel dirty for posting in it.

I have always had respect for Jack and had hoped a visit to our first final in what is now eleven years would of had him in the side. His work this year when he came into the side was amazing and Port will benefit greatly from Watts on their list.

I know he has had his knockers and critic but the fella can play. Not every player needs to get their head knocked off to get the ball. In saying this, I understand he does at times not do this enough. Admittedly we have never really played him where he should have played, as a forward.

Would just like to say to Jack, thank you for being at the Dee's and thankfully, you played 150 games. I hope Port is a place where you get the best out of yourself and play to the potential you have. As much as it will pain me when you kick a few against the Dee's, it will be great to see you out there doing what you do best.

GREAT POST AGREE TOTALLY

@TradeBible can reveal that Jack Watts has been traded to Port Adelaide in exchange for Pick 29.

Thats overs for a non competitive player who would have been delisted 4 years ago at any other club.

We have done well.   I love Goody.

When you have barracked and loved Melbourne FC for as long as I have mate you don't for one millisecond think of deserting them. I am just so disgusted with the alleged powers to be in the club. I will still love the players and team ON THE FIELD forever. Not the insiders though at this stage. I feel a bit like I did when they sacked Norm Smith many moons ago.

Norm Smith, 4 time premiership player, 6 time premiership coach, 500+ goals

Jack Watts ....

Yeah I can totally see the comparison

Interesting if you would have this opinion if Watts was lining up to kick the winning goal against us in the Grand Final...

People really need to relax... It is one player who every other club would say has done bugger all in 9 years!

But waaaay under for a top quality ball-user who rates really well in pressure acts.

I feel that it reflects his value quite accurately.

Early second round I thought was fair value. It's a little unders but nothing dramatic.

Again I would question these repeated references to "9 years". It's not relevant and feels petty in the extreme.

What this thread has re-enforced to me is that some will back the club on literally anything. Goodwin could release a video of himself strangling a puppy, and there'd be posters on here here saying, "well, the puppy clearly had it coming.."

I understand why that is. Blind optimism is an attractive default position. Personally I think it's better to think for yourself than always bow to club decisions. But each to their own.

I wish Watts well in the land of shitty tap water. He's frustrated over the journey but he's Melbourne through and through and always will be.

It's a sad end no matter where your allegiances lie.

One can only assume they are taking the P155 as we already have Pick 29

P-man, ..... mate........... Seriously?

That comment could be countered with one equally as far-fetched the other way.  Lemme try.

What this thread has re-enforced to me is that some will back Watts on literally anything. The club could release a video of him smoking ice and then assaulting a 80 year old to steal her pension, and there would be posters on here saying "Well, hes a lovely kick".

Do you see how dumb those sorts of comments are, regardless of who you support?

Keep it real.

And what's the point exactly? That I'm incorrect in saying that I believe he has a NET negative impact on our team and expressing that on a public discussion forum?

Consider my use of the term net.

And who's talking about him as a person? I thought we were talking about footy ...

I see your point of view... which is echoed by he footy club. Isn’t right nor wrong i absolutely believe we should back the club in whatever decisions they make...

But... Do you believe that trading him out in a so called weak draft year is going to have a negative or positive impact? Having spoken at length to two player sponsors I get the distinct impression that the handling of watts has the potential to have a huge negative impact on the on the team or at very least two players. We can all see he hasn’t lived up to the unrealistic expectations of demon supporters the FD and the general football world. He was never going to be our saviour. He really has been unfairly treated since day dot. Equal to that he has also not put in the effort in from all accounts. So they probably balance each other out.  The point is.. if we got watts at pick 31-39 we would never be having these conversations. Sure he’s gone which is fine Melbourne and any afl team is far bigger than an individual. Lever will be great no doubt and we have players developing. I just personally can’t see the value in getting rid of watts. I’m not inside the 4 walls of the footy club or privy to the conversations they have had with him. The perception they have of him is different to some supporters which is fine. End of the day they are the experts trying to make the club better not f- it up.

If emotion is taken out of the equation...

watts vs the pick we will receive will be judged and compaired for the rest of his career. Don’t think the loss of him will make us a worse team but having him is a benefit to the forwards we have.

If the Powers That Be think this is a good move why don't they gamble and ask for Port's second round pick next year? Surely they'll finish outside the eight with their poor trading, right?

What exactly has the club said publicly....Jones ...Mahoney...alluded to some unprofessional training standards ...everyone knew that....never heard any other untoward criticism....but happy to be directed to the relevant statements that support your claims

Whatever the "criticism", it has been aired very publicly and as I said, JW doesn't deserve that.  Get the job done, sure, but don't publicly bag the guy.  Being told in public that in doing your job, you don't put in is pretty demeaning.

It has to be a pick 20-25 think about it clubs getting compensation picks in the late first round for guys like frawley and motlop , Watts is worth more no doubt .

Lets swap Watts for Ollie wines and give them a player or pick and get a pick back .

Chasing?  Only one made an offer didn't they?

He has been the invited to tour the facilities at Port Adelaide, Sydney and Geelong. How do you know that there has only been one offer? Just because Port Adelaide is front running, things can change quickly as draft picks become available.

An irony for mine is that whilst the Thread's title is about Watts, whilst we talk of Watts and what's what.

What has happened and the 'what' that all this is really about is not Jack. In much measure its about a package of expectations,a club, its failures  its tribulations, its politics its ability to do things. Jack just happened to be a very convenient whipping boy and eventual scapegoat . His last act was as the sacrifice to the alter of ' truth and realities'

I wish you luck Jack. I wish our club well. I most fervently above all hope that we sort through this debacle

Out damn spot...

THE ACCIDENTAL DEMONS by The Oracle

In the space of eight days, the Melbourne Football Club’s plans for the coming year were turned upside down by two season-ending injuries to players who were contending strongly for places in its opening round match against the GWS Giants. Shane McAdam was first player to go down with injury when he ruptured an Achilles tendon at Friday afternoon training, a week before the cut-off date for the AFL’s pre-season supplemental selection period (“SSP”). McAdam was beginning to get some real mom

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
