Goody sings the blues

Goody has just made an announcement about the end of the season and his 'disappointment'.

Seemed quite measured, and suggested that only GWS and us have made 'linear improvements' over the last 4 years.  Pretty good company on that measure.

What are your thoughts?

Wasn't unhappy enough for me.

I wanted tears

Well it's been a slow linear improvement so if the trend continues we should make the eight next season but we blew this prime chance already this season and arguably last season as well. He has  a big job to sort out the mental demons.

It was good to hear from the coach. As usual it was a measured approach but one that he obviously needed the time to analyse and put into words.

I just hope like hell that this years lesson acts as an incredible catalyst for the whole FD and players. We need to move past the 'lost opportunity' phase and form the mindset of being a ruthless juggernaut for next season.

Late but at least he has spoken. Not a lot said but he seemed pretty flat. Not sure he feels as empty as most Supporters but he is a professional coach. Linear improvement does not mean much.  It's the manner in which they played relative to other clubs.

It means we continue to win more games every year

my finals booklet arrived today in the mail. That pulled the scab off again.

As Paul Roos would say  sometimes after games like last week it's best not to say anything straight away because anger and emotions can cloud your judgement and you may say things you regret.

What I did like was not saying it was only 9 points in the end.

Liked the statement

The ladder doesn't lie and clearly we weren't good enough.

No more words needed for me, it's time for action

When I woke up this morning
Everything I had was gone
Said when I woke up this morning
Everything I had was gone
Had my heart set on finals
Now we gonna play none

Knocked out on percentage
On that long dark night
Knocked out on percentage
On that long dark night
I have pains in my heart
They have taken my appetite

Worked fifteen years
Playing as a Crow
Worked fifteen long years
Playing as a row
Got here to Melbourne as head coach
Never felt so low

Beat twice by North Melbourne
Took me by surprise
Beat twice by North Melbourne
Took me by surprise
But when we give up against Brisbane
Had to close my eyes

Had to fold my arms
And I slowly walked away
Had to fold my arms
And I slowly walked away
I said in my mind
Trouble gonna come someday

Round twenty three at the MCG
Felt like judgement day
Round twenty three at the MCG
Felt like judgement day
Only had to beat them Magpies
Found black and white makes grey

And I rolled and I tumbled
And I cried the whole night long
And I rolled and I tumbled
And I cried the whole night long
Boy, I woke up this mornin'
My self respect was gone

Glass half full about our year?

Nope, I say the majority are majorly disgusted in how the season finished, but of course the coach will never say that, unless he is chris/brad scott

That was my read too. Could barely get some words out. Shattered. Which is why no doubt he has not said anything yet. For me that gave me a modicum of closure. A modicum. A [censored] modicum

Made some good points.

He was diplomatic to the Camera which is fair enough.

He said we weren't good enough.

tough pre season coming up...

I technologied.

He mentioned that we started to struggle in key areas from round 15 onwards.

Im guessing those struggles wouldn't have disappeared if we made the finals.

Was this a case of the opposition working us out and we had no plan B or C?

Were our players cooked after that 4 week horror stretch in the middle of the year?

Injuries to key personnel hence no opportunity to rest more players throughout the year?

Will this current list win us a flag? If no, throw the kitchen sink at Lever, Gaff and anyone they think will get us there.

Seems everyone at the club has a long hard road ahead this summer.

Not a good sign when you start to struggle with a third of the season left.

Trade period might tell us a bit about where this journey will go.

Its not a bad point but it's another one of those pulling statistics from no-where things. What do we care that we and GWS made linear improvement? Just playing disgruntled fan. It was a very thought out announcement.

A week on and now that I've come round and the anger has subsidised I honestly feel that missing the finals in some cruel, twisted, f%%ked up way we are better off in the long run missing out the way we did.. It hurts so much because we have been so starved of success & finals but this will be the springboard for this club and playing group to launch into an assault at a premiership.

From the board to the coaches to the playing group we will all be better off for it.. Goodwin & the coaching staff will learn from this and go away as he said and will find new ways to get better, come up with innovations to take this club to the next level not only to make finals but to do some damage when we get there. For the players it will be a lesson that every little thing matters and you can't pick & choose when you want to put in effort, it has to be every training session, every game, every quarter, every contest... Everything!

If we snuck into the 8, the way we were going we'd be one & done and the coaching staff & players may not have had this view and think everything's fine and we're on the right track, it'll just happen.. The lessons learnt from the ending of this season are invaluable

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.
