This may have been mentioned in another thread but 3AW Sports Day program last night mentioned that Frost has delayed contract talks and is not happy playing in the magoos. Could be part of the Lever deal. Thoughts?

I think he put off contract talks well before playing for Casey, so the two aren't necessarily linked.

However, he is an interesting case because with Tom McDonald in the backline that has squeezed him out. Oscar McDonald has been very good of late but Frost could easily replace him in the team.

If we get Lever I'd be shocked if Frost wasn't part of the deal.

He is not happy playing in the magoos? Frost has made 16 senior appearances this year. and 16 last year. What a fickle person if true. Personally, I think its BS.

EDIT: I am more concerned about the ANB contract, when will he sign on the dotted line?

I think the Club are really confident we've got Lever and see Frost as a way of getting an early second round pick from a club like Western Bulldogs, Geelong, Collingwood, Carlton etc.

Hope so. That would mean we are elite in another position on the ground

ANB signed on for 2 more years. It was announced last weekend. :)

golly..shock... I mean..and EOS without 'someone(s) " moving on or in.

It happens... it's called evolution.

I don't mind Frosty.  I'd like to have Lever. I'd like fillet steak more often.  I'm just not going to get everything am I :o

Given he hadn't played much until this season (mostly injured) he probably backed himself to play again before commencing contract talks and his manage would be out there testing the market with the likes of the Bulldogs & Carlton with limited competition for spots.

Was good for a patch early on but has leaked plenty of goals against opp bigs and lost his dash in recent games.

I've only seen the Jennings Instagram pic - nothing official from the club.

Was Jennings extracting the urine or have I missed other announcements?

I want Frosty to stay.
Big, fast aggressive blokes don't grow on trees and if it true he's got the sulks being played in the 2s
it'll only be worse if we start shopping him around.

As for Lever,  I'll believe it when I see it and if we're not careful we'll lose Frost and have neither.

i would be a bit disappointed to loose frost, his form at the start with the dees was not great but has grown in confidence and started to show he can be a pretty handy halfback player with this height, speed, run and carry. I think he still has a lot of upside as a player another good pre-season (after we win this years flag) will set him up for a really great year next year, hopefully with us, if not hopefully we will get something decent in the way of a trade for him.

In this fun game of EOS trade...you have to give a little to get something.  It's about IMPROVING the list. That's all.

For a guy in his sixth season on AFL list, Frost's development has stalled badly this year. He is clearly an excellent athlete, but he is not a natural footballer. Some of his decision making and positioning has been awful this season.

I'd like to keep him around, but not on stupid money.  I'm not sure what his bargaining position is whilst he is at Casey, so hopefully he comes to his senses and takes the club's offer.

Tend to agree. If however he's worth even more to the club as ' currency' then am all for whatever is best.

Have to give to get.

Frost (or 2nd rounder) and 1st rounder should land Lever.

I like Frosty. But cant break into best 22. Tommy and Oscar are keys for the long haul.

I can see Frosty at an Adelaide or Bulldogs.

Tom is down the back at the moment because we lack another big backman. But even tom at his best still struggles with Daniher, Brown, Nick and others. I personally would like to see Tom moved back forward as it gives us a lot more marking and scoring power.

I spoke with Frosty at a club function last weekend. He was ok with going to Casey and knew his form was down and stated that this happens. Determined to work hard and get his spot back. No hint of unhappiness. He is a Melbourne boy and Wesley graduate who wanted to return from Sydney to be close to his family, (even if his brother is in Brisbane but not getting a game). Tactically it may not have been ideal to postpone contract talks to years end and get dropped but most of the contract renewals have just started. We don't have that many tall defenders and Frosty plays tall or short and has pace,  it is his disposal that is lacking. I would be loathe to see him leave

I'd love to keep him if he'll stay for not too much moolah.

Same height and weight as TMac and even faster!  A powerful, dominant athlete who hopefully can improve his skills a bit and really be something.

Probably belongs in the Lever or other list managment thread, but no way I'd give Frost and a 1st rounder for Lever.  No way I'd give up a 1st rounder altogether for Lever either.  We have fairly solid key position and other backline players as it is, when you consider we have the two Mc Donalds, Frost, Jetta, Hibbard, Hunt and possibly Salem in that group.  I don't know what the facination with Lever is in that sense anyway.

I really think we still need a few more quality mids to replace the aging Jones, Vince and Lewis.  Unless we could somehow snag a bargin ready made player, I actually see going to the draft to target quality genuine mids as the way to build our list in future years.  Sometimes you can get lucky with late picks, but I really think that there still has to be some correlation with low picks and ultima quality/ability  (i.e. Clarry, Judd, Hodge etc).

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
