Jack Watts (again)

Redlagged

Recommended Posts

Jack Watts should be embarrassed that at over 150 games and 9 years at the club he still can't hold down his spot. He has shown that he has the talent which makes it all the more disappointing. If he gets traded by Melbourne he will be delisted within 2 years by whoever he goes too, no other team would give a player this many chances to make it.

Jeez he must be pretty injured if he's kitting up for Casey on the weekend.

Yeh.

That's how footy works funnily enough. It seems the poster I was quoting believed that we'd have serious trouble kicking a winning score without Jack in the forwardline.

Did you read my reply? From the poster.

Carrying multiple injuries and wearing all the heat for a team underperforming across the board.

Absolute joke.

Makes a nice easy whipping boy, every time the coaching staff want to look like they're taking a stand. They pick and choose which players they take a hard line on 'team rules' with and it shows.

Has McCartney's fingerprints all over it, there's a reason why he was moved on from the Bulldogs and they've never looked back.

How is McCarthy responsible for Watts form this year, he has been below par in all but a few games this season. When a player can come in from the VFL in Hannan and out perform Watts in the debut year it makes all the time we have put into him look stupid by comparison.

Any stats sites that record goal assists? Pretty sure JW would be up there. Where he lacks in defensive pressure he makes up for being one of our most offensively creative.

What's the wind forecast on Sunday?

Officially he has had 9 goal assists, that is defined as the next possession resulting in a goal, for comparison Petracca has had 16, ANB 15, Oliver 14

A poster in the match preview thread noted he has a disc problem and has played injured.

Also"It is understood Watts has been limited by a hand injury, with the 26-year-old spotted with a small cast to protect his hand at training in recent weeks". http://www.afl.com.au/news/2017-08-11/late-mail-live-round-21

And, he had back spasms, ankle problems leading up to the bye.  Then his hamstring went and he was out for 4 weeks.  I would like to think he was fully fit when he came back it looks like the selectors became desperate and brought him back underdone.

If this is correct why is Goodwin saying he's not playing to the level required? Seems like s bit of a repeat of the preseason stuff.

Tbh don't know what to think.

He IS injured, take that as gospel.

Not emotional, others just have access to information you don't.

I heard Goodwin state specifically that Jack was dropped for form. Take that as gospel.

Nor do i, but call me a cynic i just don't give a lot of credibility to much that's uttered in the football world.

Have no doubt though that much of whatever is said suits the orator at the time.

Much rather the footy do the talking. Has more believability for mine.

It's what clubs do as a matter of course.

And we put the time into these top-end picks and all the other clubs do the same because of the general belief system in drafting.  Top-end picks nearly always get more time to prove or establish themselves.

We gave Morton 5 full years but Roos called stumps on Toumpas after only 3 years.  From an overall perspective, there are a myriad of other, similar stories.  Drafting is a flawed system.

There have been over 200 threads (it's true) pertaining to Jack Watts.  To say that figure is out-of-whack in comparison to most of our other recruits would be understating things to an extreme level.  He gets way too much attention, all things considered.

He has been dropped 3 times in roughly the last 12 months, twice now arould the time we are fighting for a finals berth. Droping him last year was a warning. Don't expect he'll get any more warnings and he will be well and truely on the trade table

Didn't get dropped at all last year. 2015 rnd 23 was the last time and it spurred him on to have a great preseason.

Just think it's a bit horses for courses when you have guys like Bernie Vince playing average footy all year, getting suspended multiple times, costing us games of footy (rnd 4 against Freo) and still keeps his spot because he's in the leadership group. The leadership group shouldn't be untouchable and if our poor form continues then someone from that group needs to be dropped to make a real statement.

Fast forward 12 months and he is put under the microscope for his endeavour in this years preseason.

Watts is very much a confidence player and needs a bit to get his touch.  I reckon the club made a massive error in bringing him straight in from 4 weeks out injured.

Massive disappointment that for the first time in 10 years we have a chance of playing finals and this guy is out of form.

hes playing in the VFL. Can you stop with the "he injured" bs

Sorry your logic is flawed. His playing in the VFL does not mean he is not injured. I heard Jordan Lewis and Reiwoldt on 360 say that AFL players carry injuries and niggles in almost every single game they play. Even games early the season.

Just one example. The year before last Jones carried a serious neck injury for almost the entire season. He had to have surgery at seasons end. Few fans were aware of it, but in hindsight it explained his average form for the second half of the season. there are many other examples, Trengrove being one.

Jack might be injured. He may not be. Either way he has been dropped for the same reason he didn't play in the JLT series. He has nor shown the intensity Goody demands. It is a moot point if the reason is injury or not.

21.9 scoring + 9 assists in 15 games. He's been good all year just been in a slump since returning from injury bar his second half against Port which was flawless. Hope he finds form quickly cause he is required if we're to have a shot at it this September.

You are correct. Was actually dropped him twice in 2015 as it turns out. Was better last year when his contract was up for renewal. For those claiming his treatment is unfair, get your heads out of the sand and actually check his stats and even his Supercoach scores. Leave the emotion out of it. He's been down the bottom end in stats for the last 3 weeks straight not just 1 week. Yes there are others there (like Frost), but he's the only one with years of experience. On top of his stats, his intensity isn't there so that's why he cops heat from the forums. No regular / senior player in the competition play with such low intensity levels so often.

Well in that case can we stop with excuses for Jack as "all players have niggle" maybe Trenners has a niggle or JKH has niggles maybe even White had a niggle in the one game he butchered.

Thing is posters on here dont seem to get Jack Watts has played soft and disinterested, he has let the team down by getting dropped

Watts has been dropped because of form, Salem to, Frost misses because Riewoldt does

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th
