I think they went close last year. Sydney even complained about it.

I switched teams and begun barracking for Sydney in the 2/4 when i saw they were blatantly up against the umpires and would continue to be for the rest of the match. An offensively manicured Grand Final match.

Are we playing the Cats in the prelim who now are fully primed to use the '1 game in 4 weeks' excuse? Or will it be Sydney at the SCG? :/

Prelim against the Cats who argue given no demon fans go to the footy the game should be at their home game. In a shock move the AFL agree. Jokes. The AFL say no it will be at the MCG and promote the game as  a battle between the two oldest clubs in football. One who invented football and the other a bunch of land rich squatters who forget they are a suburb of Melbourne.

Both teams have their full list available.  Bernie tags both Selwood and Dangerfield out of the game. Viney has 42 possessions, 40 of which are contested. Trac has his break out game and kicks 12. All in the second half.

Gawn gets every clearance and Oliver has more kicks than handballs.

OMac and his zone crew shut the cats down. They don't score in the first half, save for a rushed behind from Omac who to some inexplicably hits a beautifully timed spoil back into the corridor before the ball does a right turn and bounces through. In his defence he saves a certain goal in the process as spoiling into the corridor was his only option if he wanted to prevent Hawkins marking given OMac was running from the boundary line to the goal square.

Tyson has 46 contested possessions at 100% DE. Joeboy says 'just did enough'.

Watts runs around looking cool and barely breaks into a sweat, but his GPS indicates he runs 27 clicks, he gives 15 goals assists, is involved in every scoring chain and kicks a left foot banana goal from the wrong pocket. Just coz he can.

Melbourne take the foot off the pedal in the last quarter to save some energy for the GF. And win by 186 points.

My dream scenario.

Tigers finsih 4th. As a reward they play the Crows in Adelaide. In front of a manic crows crowd they have a shocking run with the umps, thier fans go crazy and the crows [censored] them by 10 goals. No one gets seriously injured but one or two key players have niggling soft tissue injuries.

Demoralised and sore they front up against a rampant dees at a packed MCG. The dees have easily won their elimination final and are on serious roll. They have all key players available, many of who are fresh, having missed big chunks of the season. In the elimination final they were able to give Gawn a good  rest in the final quarter given their lead.

The dees [censored] Richmond who are left bereft and in shock.

You should write scripts for channel 9 shows. Brilliant assessment. Hope it comes off.

Medium impact, intentional hit to the head, prior record, exact precedent set by the Vince hit last week.

So yes, expecting a fine.

Darling thinking he was being smart in the first minute of the final quarter when he held onto the ball to wind down the clock was a classic. He doesn't come across as the sharpest tool in the shed.

I loved that last quarter. I backed the pies to cover tbeie 4.5 line. Had givwn up on the bet. They gor a super lucky free to give them a chance of getting out to 7 points.  Even at the end fasola had to kick that goal to cover the line. Thought he was going to chip ir ti ajother player. Ans then wc should have gor a free in rheir forward line wirh 10 seconds to go. Great stuff

At risk of being unpatriotic to the demon cause and wanting Greene suspended, I thought it was the forearm that slid up to Rance's chin and Rance milked it for all it was worth.  His staging was as obvious as Dangerfield's on Friday night.  If Greene is suspended Rance should get a fine for staging.  Maybe Rance should get a fine regardless.

Anyone else wondering if North are tanking?

They have rested/dropped Zeibell/Goldstein.  Now Tarrant is 'injured' in the warm up and a debutante is coming in.

I find the gifting a game to Ess nauseating.

Greg Denham also 'smells a rat' http://www.theaustralian.com.au/sport/afl/smell-of-a-rat-around-north-melbournes-pregame-planning/news-story/e0e61f969c419970b1a48884ffe2c8d2

North desperately want Kelly from GWS.

Consider this:  they are second bottom on %, Lions are on the rise and could win another game or two.  If not, the last game is Lions vs North.  It could become the clincher for North to get the wooden spoon.  They tank again with playing kids and putting other players in for surgery.  Then they can offer GWS (pick 1 + whatever) and if GWS balk Kelly can walk into the preseason draft and North get him for zip.

So the wooden spoon gives North a huge upper hand in a deal with GWS for Kelly!

Scott is cunning and has form when it comes to using selection to manipulate the result he wants - remember 2015 round 23 when he tanked to get a home final instead of facing Adelaide in Adelaide.

Yes, tanking is alive and well but as Denham said it is now called 'list mangement'.

It's always been list management. Its been a tool of clubs since dot.  Quite frankly I see absolutely nothing wrong with it. it's all about positioning and making the best of whatever...over "forever" not just one season.

What riles me is we got done for an accepted practice. Accepted by the League no less. Always remember the  club and people behind our sanctions..always !!

I've no problem if Scott wants to rest anyone. Maybe that does two things for us. Ease any necessity to rush anyone and two and more importantly...spank their little botty red raw in front of their rent a crowd !!

It all makes sense.

Though the idea of Josh Kelly playing for North is nauseating.  I cant believe he'd willingly choose to play for that boring irrelevant club, hes gonna get rich anywhere he goes.

I think the million dollar question is why do players keep trying to hit Alex Rance?

Tony Green out for 2 matches...

Nev Jetta can be released onto Steve J and run rings around him

Honestly if he'd got less I would've just about given up on the AFL. At least finally there has been some semblance of consistency.

Also good for us, as you say it releases Jetta.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
