Kind of ironic that the photo has the word "weak" and a photo of Gibbs and his lovely hairdo...

Also has the long sleeves on, the ponytail and defensive body language trying to back away from Clarry... yep good choice for the photo :P

Clarry is a champ and doesn't take sh*t from anyone. If these things were causing him to lose focus and effecting his football it would be different, but they're not. He was close to BOG yesterday.

It's easy to forget that Clarry is still only a 19 (20?) year old kid. The guy called him a weak [censored]. As a young fella trying to play the game it's a bit hard not to take it to heart. I bet that fat moron feels tough picking on a young kid from the sidelines.

I think the club will do the right thing to do all they can to protect Clarry from the media clowns and move on from the non-issue.

Yeah mate. Some fat ugly deranged moronic Blues supporter abused and threatened Clayton Oliver over the fence and Clayton said something back to him. Now Oliver is being made to look like the villain again, not the f*ckwit who abused a 19 year old from the safety of the stands.

Hope the club defend him and then move on. Let his football continue to do the talking. He's been phenomenal this year. This might be the best 2nd year from a player since Chris Judd! That should be he headline right there!

Will reserve judgement until I know what was said. Amazing how many people are prepared to pass judgement when, as Goodwin said, the facts aren't on the table yet.

Been waiting a long time for the day we were feared and hated rather than scorned and pitied.

Carry on, Clarry

how is this even an issue? a bit of back chat to a idiotic fan. the club will teach the kid not to bother and we move on

The media really have a hard-on for us at the moment and these "discipline issues" at the club. love how Goody is sticking up for Clayton and the club.

how about writing an article on the win and what it means FFS! very likely we play finals because of yesterday

it doesn't fit this fortnights narrative...

Ha Ha. The last time this happened at the G, it was the Freo game in the last minute of game and a melbourne cheer squad member (allegedly) called the goal umpire a silly old duffa. what do you know, security in all their pomp were down in a flash like the cavalry pin-pointing the alleged name caller. players are entitled to protection from abusive commentary as well as officialdom, even if they are wearing the red and blue.

I dont watch any of the footy shows as AFL personalities are unbearable at the best of time, but Im sure they will be talking about this non-story all week.

I have worried about Oliver's propensity to get baited from others since he was drafted, since his hilarious Facebook commenting on a post mentioning him. He has continued doing it, which is unusual among professional players. He's not bad at it, but I was worried, since my own experience with such players is that they can be easily manipulated into performing poorly and stupidly.

However, his form has been very consistent, regardless of what he is or isn't doing and regardless of what the opposition do to him. As such, I'm far less worried. When he plays he apparently just lives in the moment and plays footy.

The weekly wrap from Titus:

Quote

It was another week of controversy for the Dees, with Clayton Oliver getting into a verbal spat with a Carlton fan. Apparently, Oliver threatened the fan but let’s keep it in perspective; it’s not like he threw an imaginary spear at him.

Plus, no matter the circumstances, you’re always going to side with the bloke arguing with a Blues fan.

Just another comment from just another peanut who doesn't know what happened, Dazz. Doesn't matter if he shares a surname or parents with a player on our list, he's as clueless as the rest. Don't stress.

I love the fact Clarry is pissing so many people off (whilst maintaining elite performances weekly)

Keep it coming, Clarry!

Supposedly as per twitter.

From the SEN article:

Former St Kilda and North Melbourne on baller Nick Dal Santo advised Oliver to ignore the abuse in the future.

“Unless its racist, just cop your right whack and move on, there is nothing you can do about it and there is nothing positive that can come from it, what he (Oliver) could possibly do that will make that situation any better.”

yeah-nah..

What "right whack" is Dal referring to?

Last year we got a "thumbs up" from Jarrad Waite when he kicked a goal after my wife yelled out something rather unbecoming (and unexpected since she's not normally in to footy at all) at Bellerive. Players interact with hecklers in the crowd all the time, and absolutely nothing gets said - sometimes it's all part of the fun.

Something just then on SEN about the Afl investigating the incident?...Its surely not the first time a player has said something back over the fence is it?? ....I think even earlier this year some Demon players I think all 3 said something back over the fence at the end of a game didnt they?? Such a non incident.....FMD.

Like anything, there's always different levels of outcome. I think we need to remember that and just comparing to racist vs everything else is narrow-minded.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
