Amazing inaccuracy by both teams on what is a still night.

The commentary is seriously annoying me. To state the obvious why do they have to tell me what I can see for myself.

Gentle understatement rising to the crescendo when deserved is the way to go. AFL is fun but it doesn't need or merit pubescent shouting at every stage.

Here's Richie Benaud's 8 Rules of commentary that the AFL boys club might want to have a look at some day, in between patting each other on the back...

  1. Never ask for a statement.
  2. Remember the value of a pause.
  3. There are no teams in the world called 'we' or 'they'.
  4. Avoid cliches and banalities, such as 'he's hit that to the boundary', 'he won't want to get out now', 'of course', 'as you can see on the screen'.
  5. The Titanic was a tragedy, the Ethiopian drought a disaster, and neither bears any relation to a dropped catch.
  6. Put your brain into gear before opening your mouth.
  7. Concentrate fiercely at all times.
  8. Above all, don't take yourself too seriously, and have fun.

A cowpat would look good in a Melbourne jumper!

But on Merret, it's amazing that this day in age, with the investments by clubs in recruiting and junior development, that a player of that quality can slide so far in a draft.

Joe Daniher couldn't look good in a cowpat nor in anything else for that matter.

Business opportunity for anyone who is smart and tech savvy. Make a digital radio app whose signal you can delay to sync with your TV.

Youve just given radio stations massive increases in revenue.

Do it.

I've sync'd things like this before using a digital delay on the audio (sound effect used in music). Only use the wet out, no dry.   How far ahead is the ABC from the TV please?

If I hear once more about how much the poor players (the ones who signed false ASADA declarations) have been through I will seriously throw my whisky bottle through the TV.

Sydney are going to be very deflated against us next week if Essendon wins. We want this result for sure.

Not sure what to think. If Bumbers get up should take a bit of the heat out of next week I guess.

That Daniher free should surely have been the other way for a block.

Yep exactly would rather Swans next week off a loss at home. Bombers are not a good team, not worried about them. They can win tonight.

How do you like that chumminess between the ump and Hurley there? I know this is Australia and we're all equal, but the umpires shouldn't be chatting away to players like that midgame.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
