Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 12

Demonland

Recommended Posts

From: Bugg, Melksham, Harmes,  JKH, OMac, Spencer, Wagner

Some talk on here previously of whether Spencer should actually come back in and I kind of understand it. Is it better knowing you're going to lose the taps than it going back to a 50/50 thing?

That said: Spencer can cover as a tall forward and Pedo is capable in defense. So, with Collingwood relatively small up front, Spence in for Omac gives a little extra flexibility.

Salem for Wagner. More flexibility again.

And JKH coming in would be ridiculous.

In: Spencer, Salem

Out: Omac, Wagner

Gotta love Pencil being named on the extended bench after Goodwin was explicit about him not playing :)

I'm choosing to believe it's being done to mess with their heads. That's the explanation I like best.

I'd say JKH is more a recognition selection. Would be surprised if he makes the final team.

Not about you at all P-Man - can someone give a rational  explanation in how it will mess with their heads? They'll have worked through a multitude of options based on a multitude of scenarios....so all strategies would be sorted. The Collingwood FD would not be batting eyelids at all.

What is not about me at all? I don't follow.

Sure they'll have worked through a number of options but it keeps them on their toes. That said, I doubt that's the actual reason.

You posted it, I was making a distinction between someone (you) alluding to the 'messing with the heads' vs - common language that, this sort of stuff actually does mess with peoples heads (plenty of people say it/infer it). That's why I said... not about you.

Usually I'm pretty pessimistic about the Dees but pretty confident we will get the job done tomorrow..

People should not be fooled by collingwoods recent record, they've beaten Hawthorn, Brisbane & Fremantle (their best win albeit in Perth but they just got smacked by the bottom side). Collingwooe are still an average side. Great midfield, ordinary forward line & horrible backline.

We simply HAVE to win if we are serious about making the 8. The ladder has opened up for us a bit & a shot at 6th is on offer aswell as keeping Essendon at bay.

Incredible as it might seem, I have just calculated that if we win by 186 points we will be 5th.

A lot of people pretty confident on here makes me nervous.

Collingwood are a side that find away to win when they have their backs against the wall. They love being the underdog. I know all the facts lead to Melbourne being the favourites but they are a side that can will their way to winning especially on the big stage (they've done it to Geelong quite often).

I won't be able to have this 'we will get the job done' confidence until this side is more consistent. If we bring the concentration and intensity we had against Adelaide and much of the Geelong/Richmond games we will be in with a chance. But if we play patchier football that we have seen for most of this season so far, Collingwood will take advantage.

I watched last years QB game and it was Jesse providing a consistent marking option up forward and Gawn being simply brilliant that made it incredibly difficult for Collingwood to stay in the game. I am worried that we might be reviewing a loss on Tuesday where we really missed our two best marking options.

Most obvious statement but if we start this game right it will take the pressure off. Would love to see us start tomorrows game like we started the second half against GCS in Alice.

That skinny kid will get plenty of the ball. If we don't respect this kid, first game or not, he is capable of punishing us.

would love  a win by that margin on so many levels.

I can recall a few one hundred point wins in our more recent glory days but never by that much.

Somehow those margins don't happen any more .... at least for us

A big gaping hole has opened up in the top eight for us. If we cant get up for this one we will seriously rue this missed opportunity.

It's opened up for the Pies also.

This game is massive - almost more than an 8 point game.

Earlier in the year we had a similarly big build up to the Richmond game and ran out of legs with injuries taking its toll. Still I felt like that had we won that night it would've set our year up not just in terms of wins on the board but showing the ability to push through when our backs were against the wall. Of course it ended up being the 3rd loss on the trot from a winning position and has meant we've been playing catch up ever since.

This game places us in an equally important position as a win puts us right back in the mix for a top 6 spot while a loss will set us back to the pack. With the evenness of the competition games like this are absolutely crucial for building momentum, but should we make the finals this will be great "big game" experience for our club.

We will have to rise to the occasion, contest every ball as hard as possible, execute our game plan correctly, and finish off the good work by putting it through the big sticks. If ever the players needed reminding that you need to bring it every week then the weekends results should be it.

Don't get too excited JV7. Whenever we have the chance to break into the top-5 by beating a team below us on ladder by 30 goals we seem to fluff it. Just can't handle the pressure of expectation. Mental fragility still defines this club. Will never change.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
