Pretty sure they see him as a project swingman in the Pedersen mold.  If he can develop into that sort of player hell be handy.

I think you're on the money. Plapp's reports tend to indicate that's the role they have in mind for him. They won't make the same mistake that they made with the Weid (elevated too quickly IMO).

Is Filipovic injured? Or is that his just not been selected?

Flipper's out for another week or so with a hip flexor injury.

The MFC's injury list stands at 9 players:- Angus Brayshaw (concussion), Lochie Filipovic (hip flexor), Colin Garland (knee), Max Gawn (hamstring), Jesse Hogan (testicular cancer), Pat McKenna (hamstring), Joel Smith (shoulder), Jake Spencer (shoulder) and Aaron vandenBerg (heel).

Players whose names are in bold are not expected back any time soon. The other's are expected back within the next month or so.

To a couple of those posters who are discussing field positions and ins and outs,

Fritsch played in the WAFL v VFL state game last week so I assume he'll be rested this week having missed out on the bye. Also the field positions are never accurate, Weideman, Keilty and Bull in the backline? Yeah don't think so.

Been there once, on official duties, dreadful day, shocking traffic, shizen rooms, and avarage catering.

I think it was 2010!

Tempting to be there though!!

Been there once. Batted first drop for Sunshine Seconds. Got a dodgy LBW - the bowler approached me during post game beers and said I was stiff to be given out.

The next week the captain of Sunshine seconds dropped me to number 10, told me I'd had my chance during the Coburg game.

VDB is the one we could have used.

Just got the word that both Keilty and Hulett will be playing as Defenders this week because Casey will have a very strong MFC presence in the forward line and needed some key players to push back

Does Dec have a favored position @Drunkn167

He seems to be swung around a bit?

I'm surprised Melksham isn't playing this game. His form in the AFL looked like someone that was way out of touch with the game, obviously not having played for the 12 months. At one point he simply froze with no idea what to do next. He just needed more footy. After going back to the VFL for some touch he subsequently produced on the big stage.

I would've kept him going rather than have the week off.

Hulett now only has to play on a wing or rove to have covered every position in the team!

I know he's been played down back before, but I'm wondering if the FD are thinking he may replace OMac at some stage. Doubt he'll be needed forward any time soon with Hoges, Pedo and Watts there.

Has anyone seen him in the ruck?  Is this a role he can or may be able to fill?

I'd give him a run at Casey if he trained well for a week or two.

Still can't see them lining up anywhere near as selected. Mitch White and Jack Hutchins can play in defence and Ferreira is knee high to a grasshopper and won't be playing at FF surely?

Made 38 the previous week, got caught on the boundary because I had to go to my cousin's wedding.....I knew a thing or two about the willow, my friend. I was known as the greatest living German cricketer.

He probably won't line up down back, but I posted this re Weideman last Tuesday in the Steven May thread, "Also, Weideman is also struggling, but he's a smart footballer with good hands.  I'd give him a crack in defence at Casey and see how he goes.  It only has to be for this season, but he may prove his worth as a defender and be a viable option at AFL level later in the year."

I agree with that sentiment. There's nothing to be lost by moving a player around the ground as part of his football education especially someone like Weideman who has talent but is still probably a year off being a regular at AFL level. With Jesse Hogan, Tim Smith and Melbourne's bigger ruckmen poised to return from injury, it's unlikely that the Weed is going to get the opportunities on the Demon forward line. Pedersen and Watts are ahead of him in that department as well. Often you can learn to become a better forward by playing down back. Ask David Nietz.

    TRAINING: Monday 20th January 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator attended training out at Casey Fields to bring you the following observations from Preseason Training. GATOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS There were 5 in the main rehab group, namely Gawn, Petracca, Fullarton, Woewodin and Lever.  Laurie was running laps by himself, as was Jefferson.  Chandler, as has been reported, had his arm in a sling.  Lindsay did a bit of lap running later on. Some of the ''rehab 5'' participated in non contact drills and b

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session.
