I thought Spencer and Smith offered more than Melksham and Hogan.

6. Oliver - this guy.  If he's not already the best player I've ever seen at the MFC, he's not far off.  Only gets pinged for throws because the poor mere mortal umps can't see how fast his hands go.

5. Hibberd - looked good as soon as he appeared in play.  Can kick and is tough.  Set the bar pretty bloody high in his first game.

4.  Hunt

3.  Watts

2.  Petracca - great effort when clearly lame.

600 - Hibberd. Did it all. Kicked it alot and creative. Marked it. Tackled. Nice goal.

5- Watts. Courageous. One bad mistake but keep us in the game. Great 2nd efforts. More dangerous as a fwd.

4- Jetta. Solid. Good smart defending

3- Hunt. Run run run. Needs to fix disposals... but great goal

2- Frost. Tried and defended all night.

1- Oliver. Accumulated the footy. 15 handballs to no one though. Did one special clearance to Garlett.

-5 jkh... delist now. small and fumbled.

-4 vince...now soft. Needs to get forward.

-3 tyson... poor disposal. ineffective handball. accumulates but not damaging

Anyone comparing Pederson's contribution to Dawes just isn't paying attention!

So true.  Contests, marks, rucks.

Not afraid of body contact? Do you remember the first game he played for us against Port Adelaide???

He may be able to do these things but on the training track doesn't count

So is he forever marked for one incident?

A bit like FOB in the 88 GF? And he had a stellar career before and after

Hogan needs to smarten up quickly. He's going to be a poster boy for wasted potential at this rate.

6. Hibberd: Provided exactly what we thought he would. Aggression competitiveness and a booming left boot.

5. Oliver: 32 disposals at 75% efficiency along with seven tackles. Enough said.

4. Hunt: Provided his usual dash. Threatened to really break the game open.

3. Watts: His athleticism in the ruck actually gave us an edge in the third quarter. Understandably ran out of gas in the last.

2. Jetta: Typical Jetta game. Did his job in the back 50 on the Richmond smalls who had little to no say in the result of the game. I know it's early, but happy 100th next week Nev!

1. Frost: Some outstanding efforts. Much prefer him to OMac.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
