Not good enough but what do you expect, a very limited footballer who was made captain without really deserving it and still tries to break every tackle under the sun. Needs to be dropped!

Shocking post, jack is horribly out of form and still averaging 23 touches and 6 tackles a game. There are many more limited players than jack.

Jack not seen when it really counted. We had some other very timid players out there in the last qtr too. Something has to change. That and the 2 previous games should have been won. Who has got the kahoonas to lead in the clutch? No-one tonight did! We have the talent, it is just not emerging. This is a coaching dilemma.

I thought he tried his heart out tonight and really liked hearing him in the TV around stoppages setting up and organising less experienced teammates. Sounded like a leader to me.

Oh sorry, scratch that. We lost - so he's terrible and should never wear the jumper again :/

A coaching dilemma which is entirely Goodwins making! You reap what you sow!

Why the hell does he try to break every single tackle at all cost when there are players on the outside waiting for the dish off.

Pull your head in Jack!

Been saying this all year Dazzle. was it significant that he spent 8 or so telling minutes on the bench when the game was there to be won last quarter??

Had the "sounds of the game" mic on tonight - first time I've ever heard it on a player who was clearly talking, directing and encouraging the whole time - be it on the ground or on the bench.  Usually you just hear the "yeaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhs" after a goal and them calling for the ball. Gave Oliver a "that was your goal" after the Garlett goal, and regularly mentioned about going more direct rather than boundary hugging.

He's still developing (cough... on a journey... cough) as a player, but there's no doubt he acts as a mouthpiece for the coach out there.  That's at least one of the functions of the captain that he is performing.

I think he's been okay to be honest.

But below his usual lofty standards.

Out of form, a bit, or maybe carrying an injury.

Jones has been a warrior for us for so long and i will always view him with fondness for being the only shining light for so many poor years and sticking with us.

Unfortunately, Jones had sweet F.A role models and people to show him how to lead, and I fear that Viney will be hampered here too.

Lewis has only played a few games with us, but its time he took this playing group by the scruff of the neck and lead us. Not officially. The boys will still hold the title, flip the coin, address the troops at the breaks and face the media. But Lewis needs to show them how to be a leader all game long.

Thought his first quarter was the best he's played all year.

But he was getting his hip worked on when he was on the bench and he disappeared after QT.

I think, without knowing for sure, that he's been playing with soreness in his hips all year and it's showing, as he's just impacting games nowhere near the way he is capable of, regardless of the stats.

Agreed. I thought his first quarter was great then he disappeared. Hard to tell if it's injury that has slowed him down. He's going to be fine. We have bigger issues, like how at this rate I'm gonna ruck next week all 5'6 of me.

Viney 74% game time. With Tyson, the lowest game time other than Spencer & Smith, despite Petracca & Hunt looking injured at times.

Don't tell me they're fully fit.

If we're right in suspecting that he's been carrying a hip injury all year, the question has to be asked as to why he was picked this week.

It could be because he's captain and we can't/won't drop him if he says he's right to go?

Not sure, just speculating. But IMO he shouldn't be playing right now.

Bingo. It's his hip. As been since the off season. Seems really simple to most people. They don't dwell on it, and don't make it open knowledge because that can only help the opposition. Later in the year, if he loosens up and improves, wait for the article where he explains his early season injury concerns. Or, if he continues with pain, there'll be an offseason article about his hip beaing "all better now" and he's "ready to shake off an injury interrupted 2017."

I for one think he's doing a good job under duress. Performing his role, bringing other guys into it. for 3/4 of every game this year the midfield has been un Melbourne like. Dash, skill, clearances... it's been awesome. He's not the bull he was last year, but he'll likely get back to that. In the meantime, he's doing what a captain should.

I think we have to take a breath with Viney at the moment. He isn't playing well but he's hardly disgracing himself, he still goes in as hard as any body in the team and he's doing good things in the clinches. He just isn't damaging at the moment, there's not a lot of hurt on the opposition. I don't know whether there's truth to this rumour/belief that he's carrying an injury but seems to be getting caught easier so maybe there's something to it.

I wasn't a fan of his promotion to co-captain, but he's got a long a bright future with the club. So I'm taking a breath with him.

He's clearly injured. However his decision making on whether to handball or kick has been poor. If that is due to his injury then he probably shouldn't be playing.

Do you mean VIney or Jones ?

LIVE AND LET DIE by Meggs

The Demons’ impressive late season charge to finals will most likely come unstuck this Saturday evening when the Bombers blow up the also-ran Blues in the Ikon Park double-header.   To mangle McCartney, what does it matter to ya? To have any chance to play next week Narrm has got a job to do and needs to do it well.  We’ve got to give the Pie sheilas hell, say live and let die! It’s Indigenous Round for this game and the chance to celebrate and engage with Aboriginal and Torres

Failed to fulfill the promise of his breakout six goal effort against the Tigers in 2023 and was generally disappointing as a key forward. Sadly, had to wrap up a great career in midstream on the back of multiple concussions which culminated in the Maynard hit in the 2023 Qualifying Final.
