Now we add Spencer and Tim Smith !@wtf. Brayshaw another head knock. Unbelievable.

Garland  season

GAWN 12 weeks

J.Smith 9 weeks

Mckenna 5 weeks

Vandenburg 5 weeks

Wagner 3 weeks

Spencer, Smith to be reported and Brayshaw to be advised.

Thats 9 down.

Has anyone seen anything of Flipper or King?

Pedo surely must get a gig next week, despite Goodwin's obvious dislike or disdain for him. If he doesn't and Watts gets injured doing excessive ruck work I will be really [censored] off at Goody.

Flipper is playing in the development league of the VFL, so is a long way off. King looked really good for his first game in 12 months, but being he has had so little game time I very much doubt he is ready for AFL.

Pedo has to come in.

Has to be Pedo time. Frost and Watts battled in the ruck but we need a designated ruckman and at least with Pedo we get some flexibility. We can share the load between the three of them, with maybe Pedo acting as the primary.

The inury list is starting to stack up, but the good news is MOST aren't first picked best 22 players. They're the depth to cover the top line, unfortunately now the injuries are starting to mount against players who are picked. Spencer is obviously the one that hurts the most now, poor bugger can't take a trick. Finally gets his chance and he gets injured. Anyone know how serious it is?

We could be the walking wounded by the end of the year.

Viney, Petracca, Jetta and Jones all looked to be hindered last night.

Throughought the entire second half, none of them could run at full pace.

It was horrible to watch. I knew Richmond would catch us eventually. Amazing effort by our guys really.

Richmond are the worst 5-0 team I've ever seen. Yuck.

I think MFC will rest Angus Brayshaw for at least 4 weeks now.  They must be very very careful and consult with the experts.

Goodwin in the after march presser said that brayshaw came up well and that was a chance to play this weekend.

i think he came off as a precaution rather than a serious concussion.

...and we lost Spencer.  Yet Richmond came out of it unscathed!  Odd.

Are we playing too many players with 'niggles' or is it our frantic, somewhat kamikaze style of play that is putting our players at risk.  I suspect out 'stacks on the mill' approach doesn't help.  Something esle?

Whatever it is the our injury toll from games is higher than the opposition most weeks.  Hope we sort it out fast.

I mentioned this in the post match thread, but there's always at least one team every year that is decimated by injury. Last year, I think it was the Eagles, and this year it seems we've pulled the shortest straw. I'm sure it was in the back of everyone's mind, but I don't think anyone actually predicted that we'd have our two key ruckman on the sidelines after round 5. I'm looking forward to see how Goodwin handles this and see if he decides to blood King or bring in Pederson (the ideal solution) who can share the role with Watts (who fought his guts out last night) and Frost. Injuries to handy players such as Wagner, VDB and Smith x2 (not best 22 players, but very good depth) are also all proving to be frustrating.

Last year it was the Doggys and they won the flag. Just have to start winning a few games get Max back late in the season.

What we really need is a medical team like down at Carton. They can fix broken Jaws "cripps" and concussion "Geary" and have them rearing to go the next week.

What we really need is having our best players who are fit on the park each week.  2 wins and no losses with Lewis and Hogan in the team.  No wins and 3 loses with one or both out.

Stupid undisciplined off the ball hits to prove our "toughness".  Gee, that was worth it.  But it's ok because Lewis feels a "little bit guilty".

No fault of the Carlton medical staff there but it continues the great Australian tradition of looking to blame anyone but ourselves for our situation.

Totally agree. lots of posting about us being two down last night. There were some very sore blokes out on the field as well. Really worried about Jones Viney and Petracca as well.

Its pretty cruel for us right now

I get you're responding to someone making a joke about the Carlton doctor but in all honesty do you truly believe the three losses are as simple as no Lewis and no Hogan?

I think we would have beaten Geelong.  The loss of Gawn meant Watts to ruck and Weed and Smith forward.  No forward structure as a result.  Hogan would have been invaluable allowing us to capitalize more on our dominance.  Lewis would have been invaluable down back.  If he'd played as he did against Saints we are a much better team.  I know it's moot but that's my opinion - they cost us the game.

I think we would have definately beaten Freo with them playing.  If you don't then don't read the rest.

Would Lewis have made a difference last night.  He wouldn't have made us worse and people here have been at pains to point out our lack of composure and kicking skills in defence.  Again moot but we only lost in the last quarter when the ball was in our backline continually.  That's where Lewis would have been.  If Hogan hasn't missed two weeks he'd have been in much better touch and a much better target.  Despite 3 goals he was very rusty.

And I question if we would have beaten Saints without both those players.  I watched the first half of that game during the week and they were just hugely influential.  They are two of our best 6 to 8 players.

I'm just sick and tired of the pathetic stream of comments about the Carlton doctors.  It begs the issue of the stupidity of our players to be in the position to get reported in the first place.  It just shouldn't have happened and the Carlton doctors shouldn't have had to write reports about two undisciplined off ball incidents.  My view is that while people here have largely let them off the responsibility hook they are all too quick to bury ANB and others for skill errors and blame them for our losses when the two main culprits have been sitting in the stands.

It's a different view to those presented here.  I don't post "in agreement".

I think, clearly, we would have been a better side in each of the losses with Lewis and Hogan. But I just think there was more to each of the losses than simply their absence.

The Fremantle one is the one they cost us the most. The other two are much harder to say with the forced lack of rotations in both and I don't think Lewis in the backline last night would have solved the problems we created ourselves earlier in the game. Would he have improved our efficiency in the first quarter (where the game was lost)? Possibly. I just think there's more to it than their absence.

You're entirely correct about their actions, though. I don't want to re-ignite an old debate but my personal view is that the two views can co-exist: both deserved to be suspended (and ought not be defended for being "tough") but neither deserved the length of suspension awarded.

I agree there was more to the losses than purely those two but the question is "would we have won with those two players playing all games".  It's moot of course but I think we'd be unquestionably 3 -2 if not 4 - 1 and possibly 5-0 but I agree that's a stretch.

The reality is with Spencer and Gawn both out for extended periods (my mail is Spencer is at least 10 weeks) our chances of a meaningful season are shot which in a funny way lessens the impact of the stupidity of Lewis and Hogan (Vince gets off because we won the game he missed).  But stupid and irresponsible they were.  Even now if we miss the finals by a game or so they will be largely responsible but I suspect we aren't in the hunt which is very disappointing.  But I'd rather have the injury concerns this year than next such is the youth of our list.

Do you think we beat Geelong and Richmond if we didn't lose our ruckmen (and subsequently Watts from the forward-line) in both games before half-time ?

Yes, but we did lose our rucks.  And if Hogan and Lewis play we perhaps don't lose as a result (a sort of belts and braces approach - insurance).  It's silly to argue their loss had no impact and depending on where you sit you can argue game changing impact or not.  The point is we shouldn't have been in the position of what could have been (and we shouldn't be blaming the Carlton doctors).

The point of raising this (again) is the dust has now settled and the results are known. We can now sit back with all the results and ask ourselves "what impact did losing those two players on the outcome of the matches they missed".  Everyone will have a view and mine is that it was significantly costly.  I thought that at the time so I may just be supporting my initial position but I know we were effected, I know we were in winning positions in all the matches even after our rucks went down and I suspect with them (Lewis and Hogan) in the team we would have snuffed out any winning chances for the opposition well before the last quarters of Richmond and Geelong.

What do you think?

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the

It's Game Day and it very well could be the last roll of the dice for the Demon's finals aspirations in 2024. A loss to the bottom side would be another embarrassing moment in a cursed year for the Dees whilst a win could be the spark they need to reignite the fire in the belly.

    THE HUNTER by The Oracle

Something struck me as I sat on the couch watching the tragedy of North Melbourne’s attempt to beat Collingwood unfold on Sunday afternoon at the MCG.    It was three quarter time, the scoreboard had the Pies on 12.7.79, a respectable 63.16% in terms of goal kicking ratio. Meanwhile, the Roos’ 18.2.110 was off the charts at 90.00% shooting accuracy. I was thinking at the same time of Melbourne’s final score only six days before, a woeful 6.15.51 or 28.57% against Collingwood’s 14.5.89

    FROZEN by Whispering Jack

Who would have thought?    Collingwood had a depleted side with several star players out injured, Max Gawn was in stellar form, Christian Petracca at the top of his game and Simon Goodwin was about to pull off a masterstroke in setting Alex Neal-Bullen onto him to do a fantastic job in subduing the Magpies' best player. Goody had his charges primed to respond robustly to the challenge of turning around their disappointing performance against Fremantle in Alice Springs. And if not that, t
