I suspect Oliver’s slight drop off last week and Brayshaw’s improvement was tactical.  IMO we’d become too Oliver centric at Centre bounces and he was running more decoys. With Brayshaw being the intended go to mid.  With Viney coming back next week I see greater domination in the middle.

oliver didn't have a hard tag (if any) against the bombers. He just didn't work hard enough. I'm sure he'll bounce back.

Or he was probably feeling the effects of a 5 day turn around and that we forget that he's still only 20 years old....

not sure if he was rested in the last, but suspect he was as when he's on the field he's where the ball is at.

Goes alright does Clarrie - Essendon can keep Parish, I like this guy.

Parish has not yet turned the corner for the Dons. He has great attributes but remains very light, finely built and tiny by today's standards of footballers. This does not mean that he is a worthless footballer, at all. I just hope that in comparison, a player like Spargo and/or Fritz does not have to endure such a period of ups and downs to make his/their way successfully into the competition. As for Clarrie, he's just fine as he is - and as he has been over a somewhat similar timeframe. Clarrie will also get better and will probably strip Selwood of his famous crown.

Good point... next week sees our best available team on the park ... injuries permitting.

Great write up on Cripps today from FoxFooty talking about how he is the fastest to 1,000 contested possessions with 68 games ahead of Kennedy with 79.

For those playing at home, Oliver has 614 from 44 games, meaning he needs 386 from 23 games to break Cripps. This means he has to go at 16.8 contested possessions a game from here on in, which is a tick over the 16.33 he is averaging this year (averaged 15.64 last year).

More likely, he is going to do it in the same number as Cripps (av. 16 contested possessions) and it will come before the bye next year.

For him to be second on that list to Cripps, he would need to 'only' have 11 contested possessions per game which are more like his figures in year 1 (9.5 average) and be in his 4th year of AFL, compared to Cripps' 5th, Fyfe 5th, Libba's 5th, Wines' 5th, T. Mitchell's 5th, Kennedy's 6th.

For comparison, Viney will get to 1,000 in the next 2 games (on 975 now) and he has played 89 games.

In summary, assuming no injury, Oliver will equal Cripps' record for fastest to 1000 contested possessions and do it a year younger than Cripps as well.

interesting

when you take into account that there is competition for Cripps in getting the hard ball and Clarry has Viney etc to compete with, his acheivement is better than Cripps

Does anyone else feel pi$$ed off  that there is all this talk about the crows fan who reached over the fence and  slapped Easton wood on the weekend? Not annoyed that there is talk about it per say as its dangerous and needs to be stamped out. Im annoyed as  when another fan reached over and grabbed Oliver earlier in the season ....Oliver had to frikn apologise to him. Ok so Oliver let him have it but imo at the time no where NEAR enough was made of the fan grabbing Clayton which is what initiated it all. Double standards. Dont feel theres enough love for Clarry atm somehow.....but in time theres going to be thats for sure.

"Strip or pi$$ all over?" - Mr see ball get ball? - don't get me started..

If Selwood didn't learn how to duck prior to a tackle, he'd be no-where..

I have been to nearly every Dees game since 1965.

I have always thought I would never see another player like Robbie.

That play today when Clarry lobbed it on Hogans chest in the goal square when he had no where to go was genius.

Will Clarry be better than Robbie?

I never got to see robbie play. Am too young.

But I'll tell you what, that boy oliver is a genuine super star.

I watched that replay and for the life of me I can't work out a) how he saw Hogan, through traffic, from 50m away (because he doesn't have time to scan and look for options, he only looks up for a fraction of a second) or b) how he managed to thread the kick through everything, under pressure, in the split second he had.

It arguably should be goal of the week just for the quality of the assist.

Clarrie has started to make a few strategic kicks to team mates as well as a few goals over the last few weeks.

I think we could start to see something very special over the remaining weeks of this season

Loved how the commentators were saying in the first 10 minutes “oh Oliver hasn’t touched the ball yet”.... 10 minutes later, oh he has 9 touches ?‍♀️?

It took me about 4 hours to watch the replay last night. I had to rewind it every time Oliver touched the ball just so I can comprehend what he actually does. We can’t say enough about this kid, except that he’s ours. I voted for Jesse as the best young player but what’s higher than exceptional talent?

Oliver and Flower are poles apart in style.  Oliver has every chance to be as effective as Flower, if not more so, but he'll never have Flower's sheer brilliance.

At the end of his career can Oliver hope to be considered a better player than Flower ?  Yep.  Leading the club to some flags will help.

I know what you mean. Went to the game and even though I watched Oliver intently, he took my breath away.

Literally magical.

How does he get into space, find the ball, and dispose of the ball by hand in a few seconds?

Has anyone seen another player with his unique skills?

Flower was sublime and we will not see his like again, but this kid is unbelievable.

Hes down 0.7 disposals per game from last season but he is averaging career highs for clearances, tackles, inside 50's, contested possession and metres gained (almost double there).

I bet his 2nd half of the season will be even better than the first.   Hes a marvel.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
