Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

It's now official ... Lumumba retires from the AFL

Thanks Heritier, it was certainly an experience having you in the passing parade of players who have gone through the doors of the Melbourne Football Club.

I suppose we are going to have to get used to the fact that you won't be coming down to training any more.

Keep well.

What a disgrace, on his narcissistic  part, that he was too selfish and thoughtless to sort this out before list lodgement.

Had he done so in a timely manner, and not lead us all on,  he may have left with at least a modicum of a respectable legacy: now all that will be remembered will be his screwing over the club.

Would have thought that was slightly harsh.  We don't know the whole story and we don't know all the information H was given about his concussion.  He was under contract and had every right to look at all angles about how he could get himself right and contribute to the club.  Once he was properly informed then he pulled the pin.  Yes, it's a pain that it's come in December and not in October, but to suggest he 'screwed the club' is totally over the top.

I don't know if I wish him ill will or not because I don't know the story and I've strongly suspected from day one that there is much more to it than we know.

I was excited when he joined because I hoped he'd be another Roos' masterstroke of taking players from other clubs as he's done with so many.  He was good early but I started to notice after about 4 or 5 games that so often he seemed to misjudge the flight of the ball when spoiling and how he just got there too late to tackle. And he was rarely on the bottom of packs. I then realized he wasn't a physical player at all and that became more apparent as time went on.  I find it ironic and confusing that he's retired from concussion when nobody has seen him get knocked and he played the way he did.  It's also very confusing that "he's been cleared of any ongoing concussion issues" but advice is that he should retire.  It's also confusing that we wouldn't let him play last year when apparently he wanted to but now can't because of medical advice. Go figure.

So really there is probably a thread of truth in what we are being told but also a hell of a lot we aren't being told and if that's the way he wants it I'm ok with that but it leave one to wonder. I can't form a judgement on the issue.  Perhaps Caro will tell us one day but it doesn't really matter because he's gone.

He said himself that he was upset about the death of Ali.  Perhaps he just found out Martin Luther King is no longer with us and that's knocked him around. Just kidding but it's as plausible as what we are being fed at the moment.

What I do wish him is good health and future success but I can't thank him nor can I damn him on the way out.

Good luck to him. His departure makes zero difference to out best 22, nay our best 25!

Let's move on from this and promise to never trade with collingwood ever again.

His presence on the field for us was so brief that to me he finishes having never really 'felt' like he'd become a Melbourne player.

It is all disappointing but I can't find the urgency in showing any ill-will.

He's an odd one at times, but if you want to complain about him, you have to declare yourself in favour of the 'robots' football culture and the end of 'characters'.

The question I have is how much did we pay a player who refused to take the field and honour his contract.

I think you will find in time, that that is incorrect.

My very strong suspicion, is that he was told that he would most likely play most of the year at Casey and if he wished to retire, we would accommodate that, with a settlement of part of his 2017 contract.

I believe the concussion issue to be a furphy.

I still wish him well and don't know why people on here turn on our players so quickly.

Surely we can all understand, that he would have preferred to play 40 more games with us and earn his full, remaining two years of his contract, rather than retiring and settling.

But that infers we were lied to all year. I don't find that satisfactory.

I think there was more to it on both sides.

I will admit though, nobody actually saw concussion...

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
